Watermelon Seed
Watermelon is thought to have originated in southern Africa where it was found growing wild. It was a valuable and portable source of water for desert situations and when natural water supplies were contaminated.It is believed that they were introduced to America in the 16th century, where they were grown by the Native Americans. Watermelon's official name is Citrullus lanatus of the botanical family Curcurbitacae and it is a vegetable, related to cucumbers, pumpkins and squash.
