- "The lives of the many outweigh the life of one."
- ―Bobbi Morse[src]
Barbara "Bobbi" Morse is a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Despite the heavy casualties S.H.I.E.L.D. had taken during HYDRA's attack on it, she stayed loyal to her oath and continued her service in the remains of S.H.I.E.L.D. under Robert Gonzales. However, as another faction of S.H.I.E.L.D. led by Phil Coulson emerged, she was sent to infiltrate it. Assigned by Coulson, she spent some time on an undercover mission in HYDRA Laboratories posing as the Chief of Security under Sunil Bakshi but eventually broke her cover to save another undercover agent, Jemma Simmons. After rejoining Coulson's S.H.I.E.L.D. she continued with her original mission. Loyal only to Gonzales, she recommended the attack on Coulson's base, which marked the beginning of the open war between the two S.H.I.E.L.D.s. However, when the two factions managed to put aside their differences to work together against HYDRA, she accepted the position in the council of advisers under Coulson as director of the reunified organization. When S.H.I.E.L.D. had to face the Inhumans, Morse was kidnapped and tortured by the rogue agents Kara Palamas and Grant Ward. She was eventually saved by her ex-husband Lance Hunter.
Morse worked at S.H.I.E.L.D.'s lab while she was recovering from her injuries, but returned to field duty once healed. During a mission in Russia, she and Hunter had to resign from S.H.I.E.L.D. in order to keep the existence of the agency secret.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
During her education, Morse earned a degree in biology.[7]
Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.[]
- "You know, I saw you train at the Academy once. Scouting you."
"I didn't know that."
"Strongest recruit I ever saw. Any test would have said you were 100% then." - ―Melinda May to Bobbi Morse[src]
Morse went to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Operations and was one of the best; she was scouted by Melinda May, who noted her skills.[5] Morse became friends with fellow agent Isabelle Hartley and her sister Jane. During her time as an agent, Morse, Alphonso Mackenzie, and Lance Hunter had a mission together in Dubai.[8]
Marriage to Lance Hunter[]
- "I first met her on a spring night. She was on the pier, facing the Outer Banks; the moonlight glinting off her face. She resembled a goddess. Of course, that was her cruel trick."
- ―Lance Hunter[src]
Eventually, she married Lance Hunter, whom she introduced to the Hartley sisters.[9] Since she was on a mission, Morse had to return to Johannesburg after the wedding.[4] During her marriage to Hunter, she found out that he is not a "big picture guy,"[10] his folding skills were "abysmal,"[11] and, to his dislike, she began keeping secrets.[1] They eventually got divorced because, according to Hunter, inter-species relationships are hard, Hunter claiming that, while he was a human, Morse was a "demonic hell-beast" who was "pure evil."[12]
HYDRA Uprising[]
Battle on the Iliad[]
- "We can't keep pretending that everything's the same as it was yesterday. I mean, look around. Half of our friends are either dead or have turned. This isn't a time to go down with the ship. We need to do something. We need to stop this."
- ―Bobbi Morse to Robert Gonzales[src]
During the HYDRA Uprising, S.H.I.E.L.D. suffered heavy casualties at the hands of HYDRA. Nick Fury gave Morse a secret mission to start Protocol ASTA06 aboard the aircraft carrier Iliad. Protocol ASTA06 was a S.H.I.E.L.D. protocol to blow up the Iliad in case its cargo, the Monolith, ever risked being stolen. During this battle on the Iliad, Morse found a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, including Alphonso Mackenzie, had been captured by HYDRA. Morse distracted them by throwing her phone at them before shooting most of them; she was assisted by Isabelle Hartley who threw a knife at the Lead HYDRA Agent.
Together with Mackenzie and Hartley, they went in search of the commander of the ship, Robert Gonzales, whom they found wounded in its conference room after he was nearly assassinated by HYDRA. After they repaired Gonzales' leg, Morse spoke to Isabelle Hartley and asked her to take a gift to Lance Hunter, not planning on surviving the mission that Nick Fury had assigned her. However, once Mackenzie discovered this, he protested it, and offered his assistance, which she refused, not wanting to put them at risk. But, Gonzales pulled rank and had Morse accompanied on her mission.
Upon arriving at the control room, Morse was faced with the challenge of destroying the ship, knowing that doing so would cause the deaths of not just the HYDRA agents, but also the deaths of all the innocent S.H.I.E.L.D. agents still aboard. While Mackenzie attempted to persuade her not to do it, Gonzales reminded her that she had an order from Fury to do it. In the end, Morse choose to fight back, and, together with Mackenzie, Gonzales and Hartley, fought back against HYDRA and retook the ship.[13]
Robert Gonzales' S.H.I.E.L.D.[]
After the battle, Agent Morse joined the reorganized remains of S.H.I.E.L.D. led by Robert Gonzales. However, soon they discovered the existence of another S.H.I.E.L.D. faction, led by Agent Phil Coulson. Morse and her colleague Alphonso Mackenzie were sent by Gonzales to infiltrate Coulson's organization and retrieve the Toolbox.[14]
Undercover[]
HYDRA Security[]
- "Coulson sent me in to infiltrate HYDRA and keep an eye on you."
- ―Bobbi Morse to Jemma Simmons[src]
Morse was assigned by Director Phil Coulson to work undercover in HYDRA, and to keep an eye on fellow undercover agent Jemma Simmons. Morse was quickly able to gain the position of head of security at a HYDRA base; however, she only had access to HYDRA's security, not any of its research or projects. As part of her cover she dyed her hair from blond to brown.[1] To gain the trust of her HYDRA superiors, Morse shared the location of a S.H.I.E.L.D. Safe House, not knowing that it was being used by Agent 33 at that time.[15]
Saving Jemma Simmons[]
- "We have a mole, ladies and gentlemen. Right here in our very facility. Someone has been sending S.H.I.E.L.D. messages right under our noses. I specialize in finding them."
- ―Bobbi Morse[src]
When Jemma Simmons' cover was exposed after she had made contact with S.H.I.E.L.D., Morse headed the investigation. To maintain her cover, Morse interrogated Simmons several times, noting her extensive background with S.H.I.E.L.D. She ensured that she intimidated Simmons as much as possible to test her loyalty to S.H.I.E.L.D.
When Simmons' cover was fully blown, Morse came to her aid, walking with two HYDRA agents acting like she was prepared to arrest her; she broke her cover and attacked the guards, easily overpowering them. Without much time the pair ran through the facility while being chased down. Morse briefly explained that she was an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. working for Phil Coulson. As they continued their escape, Morse attempted to maintain her cover and distract Sunil Bakshi; when this failed the two jumped off the roof and escaped on a Quinjet piloted by Antoine Triplett.
Back at the Playground, Jemma Simmons and Morse were greeted with warm welcomes, with Simmons noting to Coulson that Agent Morse was amazing, although Morse insisted that Simmons simply call her Bobbi. Alphonso Mackenzie and Morse shared a laugh about their favorite drink before she turned to see Lance Hunter. Hunter was both surprised and horrified to see his ex-wife, noting that he preferred her blonde. When Hunter demanded to know from Coulson why she was there, Coulson told him that Morse was one of their best, and Morse revealed to Hunter that she vouched for him.[1]
Infiltration into Toshiro Mori's Estate[]
- "This poor sap's buying every word she says."
"That's what we want."
"Well, I just feel sorry for the guy. Making targets feel special, that's her thing." - ―Lance Hunter and Melinda May[src]
After S.H.I.E.L.D. was framed for an attack on the United Nations, Morse came to Phil Coulson with the identity of the attacker, Marcus Scarlotti, who worked for HYDRA. When they traced the weapons used to Toshiro Mori, Coulson ordered Morse to go to Okinawa, Japan with Melinda May and Lance Hunter.
During the flight, Morse and Hunter uncomfortably talked to each other, with Morse bringing up Hunter telling people she's a "Hell-Beast", and how he's decided to still be with S.H.I.E.L.D. Seeing the conversation leading to an fight, Morse moved to the cockpit with May, who revealed to Morse that she was married, but now doesn't speak to her ex-husband. Once they landed, they discussed possible plans, with Morse suggesting using her HYDRA cover, which may have been blown, to get into the estate and get the weapons.
Upon entering the estate and being searched for weapons, Morse greeted Mori by passionately kissing him. The two sat down, but before Morse could get any information, Mori addressed the rumor that she was actually with S.H.I.E.L.D., which Morse covered for, and proceeded to ask about the weapons he created. Mori talked about the weapons, but when Morse asked if she could get her hands on any, he revealed that he had shipped them all out, and that Daniel Whitehall gave the designs for weapons to him. Mori then mentioned that HYDRA had possession of the Diviner, but her cover was blown.
Hunter arrived at the estate and shot a guard about to murder Morse, as she fought Mori, knocking him to the ground. With Mori's men defeated, Morse was annoyed with Hunter for his intrusion, stating that she would have had it handled by herself, leading them to argue, while also simultaneously shooting Mori when he pulled a gun on them. They continued arguing, but were stopped by May, and they left the estate with the knowledge the obtained from Mori of Scarlotti going after Julien Beckers.[3]
Ambush at the Belgium Safe House[]
- "S.H.I.E.L.D.'s not S.H.I.E.L.D. anymore. I'm trying to figure out where I fit in, too."
- ―Bobbi Morse to Lance Hunter[src]
As the trio headed to Belgium, they were notified that Julien Beckers was an undercover HYDRA agent. Once they arrived at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Safe House, Lance Hunter entered and provided a distraction so Morse and Melinda May could get into position and ambush Marcus Scarlotti's mercenaries. As May chased after Scarlotti, Morse and Hunter fought off the mercenaries, where Morse's life was saved again by Hunter.
It did not take long for the team to kill or subdue all the mercenaries, including Scarlotti whom May had defeated in a one-on-one fight. Noticing Hunter packing up, Morse asked if he was leaving, which he told her that S.H.I.E.L.D. was always her thing and that he didn't want to interfere. However, Morse stated that she was also trying to figure out her place, as S.H.I.E.L.D. was no longer the same as it was. She wished him luck, repeating their "Don't die out there" reminder, but as she walked away, Morse also offered the option for Hunter to stay.[3]
Chase of Grant Ward[]
- "You were on page 117 when you were waiting outside. And you're still on page 117. So either you're a really slow reader... or you're working for Coulson."
"Who?"
"I am impressed. You can tell him I said that. I almost missed you." - ―Grant Ward and Bobbi Morse[src]
After Grant Ward escaped from federal custody Morse, Melinda May, Lance Hunter and Antoine Triplett were tasked to hunt him down. After hours of searching, Triplett spotted him, but was unable to apprehend him, so Morse and Hunter took position at a bus station and waited for Ward to arrive.
Morse, who was pretending to read a book, noticed Ward, so she got on a bus heading to Dallas, which Ward also boarded. However, when Ward sat next to Morse on the bus, he soon exposed her, noticing she was still on the same page, and threatened to detonate the C4 on him if they continued to follow him. However, after Ward left, he got on a bus where Hunter was positioned, heading to Boston. Morse, May and Triplett met up with Hunter at Goldbrix Tavern, as that is where he followed Ward to.
As the team prepared to go after Ward, Morse and Hunter argued about their covers. They then approached the tavern, but when they enetered, all they found where dead bodies, along with a tied up Sunil Bakshi, which Ward was responsible for, so they took Bakshi into custody. Later, Phil Coulson called the senior agents together to inform them of what he had been going through, and that he was better now. Coulson then revealed to them the Words of Creation, which was actually a city, and that HYDRA was looking for it, too.[16]
Interrogation of Sunil Bakshi[]
- "I think Bakshi slipped. Maybe Whitehall and Red Skull have some sort of connection."
"Sounds logical, other than the fact that Red Skull's been dead for over 70 years." - ―Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter[src]
Being known for her interrogation skills, Morse was tasked with speaking with Sunil Bakshi as Phil Coulson left to search for the city, leaving Melinda May in charge. After eight hours of silence from Bakshi, Morse was able to get him talking and began her interrogation.
As Bakshi spoke about HYDRA's growth compared to S.H.I.E.L.D., Morse decided to play to his ego, and asked him why he followed Daniel Whitehall instead of leading HYDRA himself. Morse put the idea in his head that Whitehall had brainwashed him like he had done to Agent 33 and Donnie Gill. This angered Bakshi who let it slip that Whitehall was a disciple of the founder of HYDRA Red Skull; he then mocked Morse claiming that Whitehall would turn all of her friends to stone, reminding her of the death of her friend Isabelle Hartley.
Having succeeded in planting the idea in Bakshi's head, Morse left to let him go crazy over it and regrouped with the others. Morse then discussed how Bakshi mentioned Red Skull and his vision, suspecting there to be a stronger connection with Whitehall, so they decided to look into the old SSR files they had. Although she had made and deep and accurate assessment of Bakshi, Morse was unable to figure out what he saw in Whitehall, so she decided to twirl her batons to help her think.
Lance Hunter joined her and asked if she was having trouble with Bakshi. However, Morse told Hunter she had Bakshi pegged, and proceeded to unload everything she understood about him from the few words he spoke. Morse then revealed the single issue she was having about Whitehall, which was later solved when Hunter showed her an old SSR file revealing Whitehall was around during World War II and hasn't aged. Morse then proceeded her interrogation, continuing to push the idea of Bakshi being brainwashed.
Using the knowledge they acquired, Morse determined that Bakshi feared disappointing Whitehall, leading to her revealing that he slipped and gave him up. Morse showed Bakshi the file they found, detailing Whitehall's history, provoking him about failing his leader. However, Bakshi refused to give up any more information, so he activated a cyanide pill embedded in his cheek to commit suicide, but Morse was able to get him to Jemma Simmons, so she could save him.
Hunter later approached Morse, calling her out for pushing Bakshi too hard and causing him to try to commit suicide. Morse believed that it was going to get him to talk, although, Hunter questioned if it was because she was afraid he was going to reveal secrets about her. The two then began to have a heated argument about lies, with Morse saying she was always honest with Hunter, who suspected her of always lying to him. However, despite the uncertain trust, the two ended up making out and having sex in a S.H.I.E.L.D. SUV.[17]
Finding the City[]
- "With all due respect, sir, this kind of op, Fury would have a number."
"A number?"
"Of acceptable losses."
"My number is zero." - ―Bobbi Morse and Phil Coulson[src]
Having started having sex with each other, Morse and Lance Hunter were no longer tense around each other, getting along as they hung out in the Playground. Phil Coulson gathered the agents in the Bus, and they discussed HYDRA possessing the Obelisk, which Morse suspected that it could have the potential to kill millions of people. Skye then showed them all where the city was located, and Coulson informed them the mission was to destroy it.
The team heading to the city consisted of Coulson, Morse, Alphonso Mackenzie, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons. As they were about to depart, Morse spoke with Simmons about her relationship with Fitz, which Simmons revealed how Fitz confessed his love for her while trapped in the bottom of the ocean. Morse listened as Simmons explained how things became difficult afterwards due to Fitz's injury and she just wanted her best friend back, which Morse remarked how she had never been friends with someone before she dated them. Before Morse left, she told Simmons to be honest with Fitz.
Morse then went inside the Bus to board the Quinjet, saying goodbye to Hunter, repeating their "Don't die out there" reminder to him. Before they left, Mackenzie approached Morse, bringing up her and Hunter getting back together, leading to him asking whether he would be replacing Isabelle Hartley in their secret mission. However, Morse cleared up that Hunter did not know about their mission, nor was she intending on having him join them. Morse then detached the Quinjet from the Bus, and piloted the team to Puerto Rico.
Once they arrived in San Juan, Morse split up with Coulson and planned to met up with Diego, one of Morse's contacts who could get them architectural plans to Castillo San Cristóbal. As they walked, Morse witnessed Coulson's unfazed attitude, as he talked about restaurants and buying a hat, making her question if they were there to truly destroy the city and not weaponize it, like Nick Fury would do. Coulson assured Morse that he wasn't Fury, and that his goal was to protect the civilians from HYDRA and aim for no casualties.
After listening to Coulson, Morse spotted Diego and acquired hand drawn blueprints, due to the structure being older than San Juan. Morse and Coulson then scouted the area and planned for how they would enter the city, with Morse wondering how HYDRA would actually unlock the Obelisk. While Coulson spoke with Melinda May, Morse argued with Diego, who refused to go down with them because he was afraid of the legend. Morse and Coulson then regrouped with the rest of the team, who were at one of the shafts leading to the city.
When the D.W.A.R.F.s were disabled after going down the shaft, they decided to send Mackenzie down to scan the area. As soon as they heard screams, Morse immediately pulled Mackenzie up, and she rushed to him, discovering he was in immense pain. As they witnessed Mackenzie struggling, he soon hit Coulson. Mackenzie then began to attack the whole team, so Morse attempted to snap him out of it while she used her speed and agility to dodge his hits. When Morse fought back against Mackenzie, she was unable to hurt him.
Noticing her batons, Morse manoeuvred around Mackenzie to equip them, using them to help her fight back, as Mackenzie was mysteriously much stronger now. When Mackenzie grabbed Morse by the throat and began choking her, Coulson saved her after an I.C.E.R. did nothing to him. After Morse caught her breathe, she used her batons to electrocute Mackenzie, causing him to fall down the shaft. Coulson then gave the order to close the tunnel, but Morse was worried about Mackenzie, who Coulson stated was not himself.[18]
Battle for the Kree City[]
- "Aren't you forgetting a third?"
"What's that?"
"'Don't die out there.' We tend to remind each other not to die." - ―Lance Hunter, Phil Coulson and Bobbi Morse[src]
Returning to the Bus once it arrived in San Juan, Phil Coulson told Morse that HYDRA knew of the Kree City, so she had to ensure Diego didn't give them any information. However, Morse's top concern was Alphonso Mackenzie, but Coulson assured her they'd save him, but they needed to focus on stopping HYDRA.
In the meantime, Morse went to Mackenzie's garage, where she found his flash drive, so she kept it hidden as she was joined by Lance Hunter. The two discussed what happened to Mackenzie, with Morse believing he could be dead, overwhelming her. To comfort her, Hunter hugged Morse, revealing that she was one of the few people he trusted, to her surprise. When Morse heard back from Diego, she asked Hunter to accompany her, and he revealed he knew about the flash drive, but didn't care as long as it did not pertain to them.
Once they got changed, Morse and Hunter found Diego, which Morse was suspicious of, as he was early and wearing a suit, leading to her believing he was sending them a signal. As Diego was about to pass them with two HYDRA operatives, Morse kissed Hunter so they wouldn't be seen, while being secretly given a note from Diego, telling her that the HYDRA were in the Ponce de León Theater. Morse then contacted Coulson to inform him, and he told her to wait for backup to stop HYDRA from getting to the city.
The two were picked up by Coulson and Melinda May in a Quinjet, and they landed on the roof to commence their assault on the building. As they armed themselves, they discussed the plan of stopping the Plasma Drill and saving Skye, with Hunter including another goal, which Morse revealed that was their pre-mission "Don't die out there" reminder. They then infiltrated the building, and Morse and Hunter split off together, taking out many HYDRA agents, until they regrouped with May, who said she was going after Coulson.
After eliminating all of the present HYDRA agents inside the building, Morse and Hunter headed to the drill, where May revealed Coulson went into the city after Skye. May ordered them to flee the building, as there were explosives planted in the city, and they were going to be set off soon. As Morse and Hunter were exiting the building, they felt the entire building begin to shake, unknown to them that it was caused by Skye, who had undergone Terrigenesis inside the city.[19]
Maintaining her Cover[]
- "You and Mack have something up and running, and you avoided backing him in that argument for fear you'd reveal it. If I'm wrong, say so, 'cause you haven't yet."
"Yeah. We have a secret." - ―Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse[src]
Returning to the Playground, the entire team was deeply impacted by Antoine Triplett's death, and Morse was tasked with packing up his belongings. Morse visited Skye while she was under quarantine to give her some supplies to make it easier for her, personally knowing how difficult it can be. Morse then expressed her awe of what Skye had gone through, only to come out of it all unscathed.
The senior agents were called together to discuss what to do with Sunil Bakshi and their next move against HYDRA, where Morse voiced the plan being dangerous. When Alphonso Mackenzie began to question Phil Coulson, Morse tried to get him to calm down, but things got heated with everyone, causing Morse to try and get everyone to stop with their arguing. However, the entire argument was ended when Coulson had enough, reminding them all that Triplett would be gearing up for the next mission.
Going along with Coulson's orders, S.H.I.E.L.D. then orchestrated a fake assault on the transportation of Bakshi, with Morse posing as one of the HYDRA agents trying to rescue him. Morse, along with some other agents, pretended to attack Coulson and Melinda May, only to be "killed" when trying to "rescue" Bakshi. Lance Hunter, also disguised as HYDRA, rescued Bakshi and fled the scene with him, so that Bakshi could lead S.H.I.E.L.D. to the new leader of HYDRA. Once they were gone, Morse removed her disguise and followed them on a motorcycle to back Hunter up.
Bakshi had Hunter drive him to the estate of Octavian Bloom, and went inside, so Morse got in the car to regroup with Hunter, as they waited for Bakshi. Hunter noted how Morse didn't take a stand during the argument, which she explained was because everyone was just upset of Triplett's death. But, Hunter brought up Morse and Mackenzie's secret, so she lied, saying they were in a support group for the betrayals during the HYDRA Uprising, which convinced Hunter, who congratulated her for seeking emotional help.
Soon, the car became surrounded by HYDRA agents, who opened fire upon them, but fortunately the car was bulletproof. Hunter used the car's weapons to eliminate the attacking agents, drove up to the mansion, and the two infiltrated their way inside, killing all of the guards. Morse and Hunter found Bakshi and Bloom, and Hunter immediately killed the latter, leaving Bakshi to figure out it was all a part of Coulson's plan. They explained to Bakshi that he would be delivered to Glenn Talbot, and they took him into custody. Later, while the senior agents sat together and remembered Triplett, Morse was informed by Mackenzie that he located the Toolbox.[20]
Kree Encounter[]
After Morse and Lance Hunter had sex, Hunter revealed to More that Phil Coulson had offered him a permanent position with S.H.I.E.L.D. To Morse's surprise, Hunter was seriously considering it, wanting to take on more responsibility. Hunter also commented that it would also mean they could be together, as S.H.I.E.L.D. was what kept them apart originally. Morse was happy and supportive of Hunter's decision.
Morse was teamed with Skye to investigate who was fighting Lady Sif on a beach in Portugal. Arriving at a hospital, Skye noted that Morse could speak Portuguese, and they talked about her ability to tell when someone is lying. After asking about the unknown man, the two discovered a nurse who had also lost her memory, like Sif, so Morse called Coulson to tell him the man was at the hospital. Morse and Skye found the man, who had blue skin, and Morse fought him with her batons, but was knocked out when thrown across the room, and the man managed to escape when an earthquake occurred.
Morse was brought to Jemma Simmons to be check on, and when she left, Morse spoke with Alphonso Mackenzie about Hunter joining S.H.I.E.L.D., with Morse suggesting bringing him in on their mission. Mackenzie refused, citing that if Hunter was to learn that Morse had been lying to him this entire time, it would destroy their relationship. Additionally, Mackenzie didn't want Hunter around, in case they are forced to fight against him, telling Morse that if she ever wants a relationship with Hunter, she'll have to distance him.
Morse was a part of the team that successfully apprehended the Kree, and Morse was tasked with examining the Truncheon, but was unable to figure out how it worked. Hunter attempted to offer his assistance, but Morse just needed to work alone. Remembering Mackenzie's words, Morse decided to push Hunter away, telling him they should slow things down between them. While not surprised, this left Hunter bitter, and he walked away, coldly repeating their "Don't die out there" reminder.
Returning to the Playground, Morse informed Coulson of her theory that only Vin-Tak could operate the weapon. Suddenly, Morse and Mackenzie felt an earthquake and ran to check what was happening, only to be informed by Leo Fitz that Vin-Tak and Sif were after Skye, so they went to confront them. Vin-Tak knocked Mackenzie and Hunter out, so Morse challenged him, expressing how she is willing to fight for her people. The two engaged in a duel, allowing Fitz to get the Destroyer Armor Prototype Gun and blast Vin-Tak, and Morse used the Truncheon to wipe the Kree's memory. Afterwards, while cleaning up, the team argued about Skye being a danger to them.[21]
Field Work with Phil Coulson[]
- "You're a hard person to read, but Hunter isn't. How long have you two been sleeping together?"
"I should have reported the change in our relationship, but is this the right time to discuss this?"
"If we were making any headway, I'd say no, but we're stuck." - ―Phil Coulson and Bobbi Morse[src]
After Morse was told about the complexities of completing Skye's Index file from Jemma Simmons, she asked Simmons about how she was treating Leo Fitz after finding out he lied to her. But, Simmons told Morse that a betrayal of trust is something that can not be come back from, which was something Morse was currently dealing with phone conversation.
Morse was then contacted by Alphonso Mackenzie, who informed her that he had moved Lance Hunter to a S.H.I.E.L.D. Safe House to keep their secret from getting out. The two talked about the situation turning into a mess, with Morse hating how it was all playing out, never wanting to hurt Hunter. Mackenzie told Morse that he didn't have an exit strategy and that Phil Coulson would become suspicious if he was missing too long, so Morse advised him to stay put until she could call for an extraction, and to get Hunter a beer.
Coulson summoned Morse to inform her of a break in at Brynmore Psychiatric Facility, where mentally unstable individuals from the Index were housed, so Morse went to prepare the Quinjet so they could investigate. Before she left, Coulson brought up Hunter's disappearance, thinking it had something to do with him offering a permanent position. Morse, knowing the true reason behind Hunter's disappearance, lied to cover for her secret, saying that Hunter wasn't comfortable with permanency and left.
Arriving at the facility, Morse recovered the security recording, discovering that Calvin Zabo was behind the attack, so she and Coulson rushed to the sub-level basement. As they searched the facility, Coulson informed Morse of the inmates, only for Morse to be attacked by John Bruno, but she quickly incapacitated him. Moving onto the only other inmate, David Angar's cell, they were concerned when they discovered that he was gone, with the words "Fight On" written on the wall, giving them no idea what Zabo was planning.
Morse and Coulson researched Zabo's accomplices and found them to be all individuals from the Index. While trying to deduce Zabo's next move, Coulson revealed that he knew Morse and Hunter had a sexual relationship, and to pass time, ask what really happened to him. Morse told Coulson that she broke off the relationship, but lied, saying that Hunter left because of the breakup, and went on a bender, so Mackenzie went out to find him. As they talked, Coulson figured out that Zabo had gone to Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
With Coulson knowing where Zabo was, he and Morse headed to the high school from Coulson's past, as it was where his father taught. Making their way through, they heard Zabo over the speaker announce the upcoming confrontation between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Slicing Talons, his super villain team, which they learned was because of Coulson killing Daniel Whitehall. However, they decided not to act, but wait for backup, only for that to change when they were told about Zabo's hostages, so Coulson went to face Zabo.
Morse acquired a position under the bleachers to, as Coulson was confronted by Zabo, where she watched as May arrived, holding Skye at gunpoint. After Zabo was suddenly teleported away from the field, a fight commenced between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Slicing Talons, with Morse attacking Karla Faye Gideon, to protect Skye. Morse followed Gideon to the locker rooms, and tried to get through to her, but they ended up engaging in a violent clash, until Morse skillfully knocked her out using her batons.[8]
S.H.I.E.L.D. Civil War[]
Reporting to Robert Gonzales[]
- "This is your op, Morse. So tell me, how do you want to proceed?"
"Skye's not the main concern. Coulson and his secrets, that's the threat. And I think it's time that we remove that threat." - ―Robert Gonzales and Bobbi Morse[src]
Revealing the truth to Lance Hunter, Morse returned to the Iliad, and joined the rest of the head members as they met with Hunter. Morse sat silently as Robert Gonzales explained to Hunter their disapproval of Phil Coulson's leadership, but, Hunter asked for Morse's opinion, so she told him she agreed, saying that Coulson had been compromised.
Exiting the room, Morse and Alphonso Mackenzie checked in with Gonzales about the status of their covers, and Morse spoke with Gonzales about Hunter, explaining that he doesn't put out what he's thinking in front of others. Gonzales brought up Morse's recent involvements with Hunter, making him wonder if that could affect her focus in regards to their plan. Offended that Gonzales would question her loyalty, Morse assured him that she was still completely committed to their mission, saying she was all in.
Later, Morse returned to the room to speak with Hunter privately, where she apologized for lying to him, revealing that she didn't want him to be a part of this, nor did she expect him to stay with S.H.I.E.L.D. when she had him help Isabelle Hartley. The two talked about the history of their relationship, with them repeating the same patterns, despite them always still loving each other. When Morse asked Hunter what he wanted, he asked her to leave it all so they could be together, but Morse was unable to, telling Hunter she had to finish what they were doing.
Accepting Morse's decision, Hunter told her he was leaving, so he made his escape off the Iliad without any resistance from Morse. However, to maintain her loyalties, Morse searched for Hunter with other agents, only to discover that he successfully escaped. The heads of Gonzales' faction gathered and discussed Hunter's escape, as well as learning of Skye being put in hiding. Morse's loyalty was questioned by Tomas Calderon, but Gonzales supported Morse, and gave her the lead of the operation, which she made the plan to stop Coulson.[14]
Attack on the Playground[]
- "I work for S.H.I.E.L.D. I do. I swear. But you don't."
"Try again."
"What Coulson's doing here, this isn't S.H.I.E.L.D.... Not the real S.H.I.E.L.D., anyway." - ―Bobbi Morse and Melinda May[src]
Morse returned to the Playground, where she commenced a full sabotage to the entire base, as well as reporting back to Phil Coulson, lying that she couldn't find Lance Hunter. She then made her way into Coulson's office; there she used a baton to cut into the desk and steal the Toolbox. Before she could escape, Morse was confronted by Melinda May, who had learned of Morse and Alphonso Mackenzie's betrayal. Seeing no other way out, Morse leaped from the window and was chased by May. The pair engaged in a fist fight which was ended when Morse detonated an EMP and escaped in the darkness.
Using a secret tablet she planted, Morse contacted Robert Gonzales and informed him of her situation. Eventually, Morse came across Jemma Simmons, who appeared to be unaware of the situation. Morse continued to use her cover to convince Simmons to help her escape; Simmons, however, was more concerned with finding a piece of equipment in her locker. She handed Morse two small pieces of tech, which combined caused a shock that rendered Morse unconscious. Before Morse could be questioned by Phil Coulson, Robert Gonzales arrived on the base with his men, took control, and freed Morse. With the base now captured, the focus turned to Skye, who Morse volunteered to help bring in.
Arriving at the Retreat with a team led by Tomas Calderon, Morse ordered the agents to use I.C.E.R.s, as Skye was also S.H.I.E.L.D.. As Morse and Calderon walked together and discussed the dangers of encountering enhanced enemies, they heard a gunshot which alerted them to Skye's location. They found Skye fighting a soldier, so Calderon fired his weapon, which was a real gun, at Skye before Morse could stop him. In response, Skye created a massive shockwave which deflected the bullet, throwing Morse and Calderon backwards and destroying a nearby tree. Unharmed by the blast, Morse witnessed Skye being teleported away from the scene by an eyeless man.[13]
Wanting Peace[]
- "You want to defend that thing?"
"She's a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, not a thing. What happened wasn't her fault. I was there. Calderon fired at her."
"She was armed and hostile."
"She was scared and defending herself." - ―Robert Gonzales and Bobbi Morse[src]
Robert Gonzales was highly displeased that Skye escaped custody and that Tomas Calderon was hurt; Morse took the position that not only was Skye a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, she was acting in self-defense. Gonzales told Morse that the Toolbox still had not been opened, so she suggested approaching Leo Fitz. Morse and Gonzales went to Fitz and Jemma Simmons as they were standing near the Toolbox. Gonzales spoke with the scientists about the past before asking Fitz to help to open the Toolbox. When Simmons asked the repercussions of refusal, Morse interjected that they were free to leave after the proper procedures were followed. Morse frowned when Fitz decided to quit.
Morse later spoke with Simmons, trying to get her to understand what had happened over the past few days. During their talk, Morse learned that Simmons had the skill to open the Toolbox. Morse sat within the Bus watching a video feed of Gonzales interrogating Melinda May, hoping for Phil Coulson's location, when Alphonso Mackenzie entered, wondering why she was hiding. She explained that they were being viewed as traitors and she wanted reassurance that they were doing the right thing. Mackenzie told her that they were doing what was best for S.H.I.E.L.D. since Coulson was compromised by his having alien blood.
When Morse went to Gonzales to tell him that Simmons could open the Toolbox, she learned that Coulson had been found at the Retreat when he tripped an alarm. Morse warned Gonzales that Coulson was setting him up; he was too smart to make such an error. Morse checked back in with Simmons, who was studying the Toolbox, where she witnessed Fitz leave the Playground, refusing to help them. Returning to Gonzales, Morse was informed that Lance Hunter was assisting Coulson. After Fitz left the base for good, Morse was given a report from Simmons, declaring that she would be unable to open the Toolbox.[22]
Finding Phil Coulson[]
- "I swore to build S.H.I.E.L.D. back up the right way, and I don't think Coulson's a bad guy. But a secret as big as Theta Protocol? I can't ignore that. Whatever he's doing, it needs to be out in the light of day."
- ―Bobbi Morse to Melinda May[src]
Morse and Anne Weaver later approached Melinda May on the Iliad, revealing that they were having Leo Fitz followed as a security risk. Morse and Weaver then asked May what she knew about Theta Protocol, and disclosed that they had discovered that Coulson was burning through their resources and had manpower all over the globe working for Theta Protocol, and handed over their discoveries to May. Morse clarified to May that while she did not think Coulson was a bad person, she could not ignore him having a massive operation hidden in the shadows and that they needed to bring it to light.[23]
While fight training with Alphonso Mackenzie, they discussed fighting styles, with Morse giving Mackenzie advice on how to avoid being knocked to the ground. They discussed Jemma Simmons' progress with the Toolbox, and Mackenzie told her that he believed that she was stalling. Morse expressed her displeasure at the fact that Gonzales had Leo Fitz followed since he left the Playground, as she did not view Coulson's team as the enemy. They questioned whether or not Lance Hunter was right all along. Mackenzie told Morse that they were bringing in a special laser designed to cut through the vibranium protecting the Toolbox. However, it was soon learned that Simmons was in fact working with a fake that Fitz had switched for the original Toolbox.
Shortly afterwards, however, Morse was informed by Melinda May that Leo Fitz had seemingly stolen the real Toolbox and Jemma Simmons had been covering for him. Morse spoke to Simmons and assured her that she would not be punished, as it was understandable that she would be confused as to where her loyalties lied, but they needed to sort out the situation before informing Robert Gonzales. They ordered Simmons to hack into Deathlok's software to allow them to look through his eyepiece and learn what Coulson was doing; she agreed before throwing the fake Toolbox in the bin.
Melinda May received a phone call from Skye; they chose not to tell her about Coulson's disappearance and claimed he was searching for her. She informed them that she was with Calvin Zabo, who was going to turn very angry and dangerous very soon, as he was about to be abandoned, so she called for S.H.I.E.L.D. to come to stop him. Morse and Alphonso Mackenzie took a team to her location, but by the time they arrived they found the remains of a battle with many HYDRA casualties. As they explored the building they found Phil Coulson waiting for them. Coulson raised his arms in surrender and asked them to bring him to Robert Gonzales.[24]
Rebuilding Trust[]
- "Coulson's only using his own people. Figured it was worth the risk."
"Those are S.H.I.E.L.D. agents going on that mission, Robert." - ―Robert Gonzales and Bobbi Morse[src]
Phil Coulson was taken to the Bus to have a meeting with Robert Gonzales; they came to an agreement in which Gonzales would assist Coulson to infiltrate a HYDRA base, rescue the enhanced prisoners there and attempt to capture Dr. List, in exchange for Coulson opening the Toolbox. Morse was present when a meeting was called to discuss how to proceed with the mission. Also in the meeting was Grant Ward, who insisted that Sunil Bakshi was his man inside; when Morse reminded them that Bakshi was a HYDRA agent, Ward assured them that he was now loyal to him. Gonzales put the matter to a vote, with both Anne Weaver and Oliver voting against the idea, but Gonzales, Morse, Ward, Coulson and Melinda May voted to move forward.
Morse prepared to join Coulson on the mission but was ordered to stay behind by Gonzales, so Coulson would only use his own people for the mission. Morse argued with her boss and friend, as those were S.H.I.E.L.D. agents being sent in and she should be there to protect them. But Gonzales insisted that HYDRA was an enemy without honor and he was not willing to risk her life on the mission. Morse had no choice but to accept Gonzales' order. Coulson went on the mission accompanied by his original team of Grant Ward, Melinda May, Jemma Simmons and Leo Fitz.
As Agent 33 was being examined by the S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists, Morse went to visit her to see how she was doing. Morse revealed to her that they had in fact met previously while Palamas was working as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Morse promised to be there to help her rediscover her past. Palamas was grateful, claiming Morse was the first person to treat her like a normal person since she had arrived at the Playground. 33 went on to speak about her love for Grant Ward, claiming that one day they would all see Ward for the man she knew he could be. Morse later watched the mission unfold from Coulson's office with Gonzales and Alphonso Mackenzie.
The mission was a success and Coulson returned along with Skye, who had been teleported to their location, and the enhanced prisoners Mike Peterson and Lincoln Campbell, although Grant Ward and List had escaped and Sunil Bakshi had been killed in action. Morse spoke to Robert Gonzales when she realized he had only voted to move ahead with the mission so he could get enhanced individuals on the S.H.I.E.L.D. base. They were interrupted by Phil Coulson, who honored his promise and opened the Toolbox for Gonzales before casually mentioning the fact that Nick Fury was still alive; he then left to answer a phone call from Maria Hill.[25]
Inhuman Threat[]
- "These people are a threat."
"We don't know that."
"We don't know anything about them." - ―Robert Gonzales and Bobbi Morse[src]
After the Avengers successfully defeated Ultron with the help of a Helicarrier provided to Nick Fury by Phil Coulson, Gonzales called for a meeting with Coulson, Morse, Anne Weaver, Oliver and Melinda May. Coulson revealed that Theta Protocol was the hiding of the Helicarrier for a world threatening event. When Weaver suggested the dangers of such an extreme action, Morse defended Coulson by reminding her that his actions had saved the world. Coulson proposed that the two S.H.I.E.L.D. organizations merge to form one S.H.I.E.L.D. with Coulson as director and Gonzales and his council as his advisors. Gonzales agreed to the idea as he felt an incoming war could threaten the world.
Morse later spoke to Melinda May and asked her if she was happy that things at S.H.I.E.L.D. were going back to the way they were; May asked her if she really believed that or that if she forgave Coulson, then Lance Hunter might forgive her. Shortly afterwards the alarms on the base were set off when Hunter caught Raina and the teleporter exploring the base. Morse and May found the pair inside the cargo hold staring at the Monolith kept there, but before they could arrest the intruders, they teleported off the ship. Morse met with the other heads of S.H.I.E.L.D. to discuss the attack and the Monolith's worth.
After checking that the Monolith was being safely guarded by a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Morse met with Gonzales, Anne Weaver and Oliver. They informed her that they had used HYDRA technology to track the teleporter and had learned of the Inhumans' secret base and they were planning on visiting their home. Back at the Playground, Coulson began discussing their next move with his new S.H.I.E.L.D. council, including Morse. Gonzales, Weaver and Oliver suggested that they plan to attack, but Coulson and Morse argued that they should not be entering into another war. Coulson suggested that they organize a sit-down with the Inhumans' leader Jiaying to resolve the conflict peacefully.
Alphonso Mackenzie informed Morse that he had decided to leave S.H.I.E.L.D. after learning that Phil Coulson would continue working as the director. Morse joined Mackenzie in the Playground's gym for a workout and they discussed his decision. Mackenzie assured her that she would not be able to change his mind and asked her if she had spoken to Lance Hunter yet; she told him she had not as Hunter had not even looked her in the eye yet. Mackenzie told her that Hunter had rekindled his friendship with him in order to annoy her, and Morse told him that she and Hunter were different people emotionally. Not wishing to discuss the matter any further, Morse began her workout.
Phil Coulson briefed the team, including Morse, on the mission plan, putting himself in the position to be the one to meet with Jiaying. Robert Gonzales, however, argued that Coulson should not be the one to go on the mission as he had too close a personal connection to Skye, which would hinder his judgement, which Morse claimed was Gonzales' opinion, not fact. Although Coulson argued that he was planning on using that personal connection to get through the mission peacefully, Gonzales argued that the threat was too great and he was not objective when Skye was involved. The rest of the council sided with Gonzales and it was decided he should go in Coulson's place.[26]
Kidnapped[]
Captured by Grant Ward[]
- "Funny how you're so broken up about betraying Hunter. 'Cause it seems like you couldn't care less about what you did to me."
"Kara."
"You just sat there, pretending to comfort me. But you were just trying to see if I remembered." - ―Kara Palamas and Bobbi Morse[src]
Morse traveled to the Inhumans' home in a Quinjet piloted by "Melinda May". As they traveled, Morse told her that Alphonso Mackenzie had quit S.H.I.E.L.D. and asked her who she would be without S.H.I.E.L.D.; Morse continued by telling the story of how Lance Hunter had once asked her to quit to be with him and she had considered it. As "May" set the Quinjet in autopilot landing mode, Morse questioned their location. At this point, "May" revealed herself to really be Kara Palamas in disguise. The pair engaged in a brief fight which ended in Morse knocking out Palamas. When Morse stepped from the Quinjet, she was shot in the head with an I.C.E.R. fired by Grant Ward. Her unconscious body was dragged back into the Quinjet and tied up by Ward and Palamas.[26]
Tortured[]
- "If I ever apologize or beg for mercy while you torture me, know that I don't mean a word of it – not a word. I made a hard call. I'd make the same one again right now."
- ―Bobbi Morse to Grant Ward and Kara Palamas[src]
Morse was taken to an abandoned warehouse and locked to a table. There she was confronted by Kara Palamas and Grant Ward. Palamas demanded that Morse confess her sins to them; when Morse did not and instead insulted Palamas, she was hit in the face. Ward informed her that Sunil Bakshi had told them that it was Morse who had sold out Palamas' location to HYDRA, leading to her capture and torture at the hands of Daniel Whitehall, and they wanted her to confess this to them to give Palamas the closure she needed. When Morse remained calm and confident, Ward opened his toolbag and informed her that he would be using needles to torture her.
Ward began to explain his plan to Morse, where he would use an anesthetic to remove any sensation of pain from Morse as he pushed needles under her fingernails, knowing that Morse would be able to push away most pain he inflicted to her due to her training. He explained that this way, the sensation of unbearable pain, would hit her body all at once. He offered to stop if Morse confessed what she had done but Morse refused, explaining that during her time undercover at HYDRA, she had made the right call to give the location of the S.H.I.E.L.D. safehouse which Palamas happened to be. She told them that although what had happened to Palamas was a tragedy, she would make the same call again.
After a few hours, the effects of the anesthetic began to wear off and the pain began to engulf her body. Kara Palamas immediately recognized the look of pain in her eyes. As Palamas wrapped her arms around Grant Ward to celebrate Morse's pain, Morse attempted to use psychology to turn Palamas against Ward, trying to convince her that Ward was playing with her emotions and using her as his slave. Palamas, however, revealed that she knew all about Ward's past with John Garrett, and how he had killed many S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, including Victoria Hand, and she was in love with him nonetheless and would always stand with Ward.
Over the next few hours, the pain became more intense and unbearable. As Morse struggled to cope, she was visited by Grant Ward, who complimented her on her resilience before comparing himself to her. Ward attempted to convince her once again to end her suffering by admitting she betrayed Palamas, thus giving Palamas the closure she needed, but Morse refused, calling Ward a hypocrite as he had betrayed his entire team. Without warning, Morse used the strength she had been building up to rip off her restraints and attack Ward, pulling out the needles from her fingers and jamming them into his neck. They engaged in a brutal fight until Morse was defeated by the combined efforts of Ward and Kara Palamas; Ward stood over her and kicked her kneecap, breaking it. As Ward offered Palamas the chance to kill her, Palamas revealed that it did not feel right as Morse did not feel regret. Ward told her he knew what to do instead.[15]
Self-Sacrifice[]
- "You look better, stupid but better, taking a bullet for me was stupid."
"Walking into a trap when you know it's a trap is stupid." - ―Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse[src]
Morse was tied down to a chair with a gag in her mouth, and Grant Ward activated her phone so S.H.I.E.L.D. to trace their location. Ward explained that, as Morse clearly had little regard for her own life, he would force her to watch as people were killed attempting to save her; he had rigged a rifle to be fired as soon as someone attempted to walk through the door to save her. As Ward and Palamas left the room, they told her that this would give them the closure they desired, leaving Morse helpless to save whoever walked into their trap.[15]
Eventually Morse heard the sound of Lance Hunter arriving in the warehouse and searching for her; Morse desperately attempted to move her chair in order to knock over the gun, but was unable to move far enough. When Hunter found the room she was being held in, Morse threw herself in the path of the rifle and took the bullet in her shoulder. As Hunter ran to her aid, she began bleeding heavily from her wound. She lost consciousness and was brought back to the Playground and taken into emergency surgery by Jemma Simmons.
Morse survived the surgery and eventually awoke in the medical bay with Hunter waiting beside her bedside. Hunter told her that taking a bullet for him was stupid, but she retorted that walking into a trap, knowing it's a trap was stupid. Hunter informed Morse that she had a lot of surgery and recovery time ahead of her before she would be back to normal. However, Morse interjected, stating that she couldn't continue working for S.H.I.E.L.D. anymore after the experiences she endured.[27]
Rehabilitation[]
Working in the Lab[]
Over the next three months, Morse went through an intense rehabilitation, as she lost half a lung;[28] she and Lance Hunter plotted revenge on Grant Ward for what he had done. As the two plotted, Hunter asked Morse to marry him again. Morse refused the offer, making Hunter angry and wanting to avoid her and the pain of rejection. Meanwhile, with Jemma Simmons missing, Morse began to work with Leo Fitz in the laboratory. However, this partnership came less and less frequently as Fitz was often absent, chasing whatever lead he found to prove Simmons was alive and free her from the Monolith.
When Joey Gutierrez, an Inhuman who underwent Terrigenesis due to the recent outbreak of Terrigen, was rescued by S.H.I.E.L.D., Morse researched him, learning his medical history and past relationships. Gutierrez was brought to the Playground, where Morse greeted him outside of the Containment Module, and gave him instructions for a medical test. Morse noted that she had determined Gutierrez cared more for other people's safety, which was proven when he asked if he hurt anyone. Morse told him there were no reported casualties, and comforted Gutierrez, assuring him he was safe with them.
Phil Coulson dropped by the lab to see Morse, who told him that there had been no activity from the Monolith since Simmons was swallowed by it, as well as informing him on the Terrigen contaminated fish oil pills, stating that other sea life could also have been affected. Morse told Coulson she and Fitz were running simulations, which made her more frustrated with her rehab, being stuck in the lab all day. After Coulson gave Morse a gun seized from an Advanced Threat Containment Unit soldier, he asked about Fitz's whereabouts, so she called him, telling him to come back from seeking a lead to recover Simmons.
Shortly afterwards, Alphonso Mackenzie joined Morse in the lab to discuss Fitz chasing another potentially hopeless lead, which he felt prevented him from coping, but Morse didn't feel comfortable telling Fitz to move on from Simmons. Morse used Mackenzie to help analyze the gun, but when he suggested getting Hunter's help, Morse revealed that he was not talking to her, although she had it under control. Morse soon tracked the gun down to locate Rosalind Price and was able to determine where they could find her.
Later, Morse caught Hunter in the locker room; she asked him how long was he going to be angry about her refusal to marry him again. He cited that she told him that she wished to leave S.H.I.E.L.D.; she reminded him of everything that was happening and that she had that plan, after rehabilitation. Morse asked Hunter to wait for her before confronting Ward; he listened, but told her that, first chance he got, he was getting his revenge. Their conversation was interrupted when Mackenzie told them that the President of the United States was having a press conference.[7]
Retrieving Jemma Simmons[]
- "I'm on this with Fitz."
"Yeah, haven't you been on this with Fitz the whole time? Hiding his trip to Morocco, covering for him on a constant basis?"
"Have I?" - ―Bobbi Morse and Phil Coulson[src]
Morse and Lance Hunter discovered that Leo Fitz had opened the containment of the Monolith, so they rushed to close it, notifying Alphonso Mackenzie and Daisy Johnson on the way. When they entered the room, the four pulled Fitz from inside the container of the Monolith and slammed the door shut before it could turn to its liquid state. Morse went to comfort Fitz for his efforts to find Jemma Simmons, and wiped his cheek, which had some sand on it.
Fitz then analyzed the speck of sand, determining that it was from another planet, and that the Monolith was a portal that sent Simmons there. With this new discovery sparking hope, Morse decided to stay with Fitz and help him uncover more on the Monolith. Morse went to see Hunter off, discussing his mission to hunt Grant Ward, of which she wanted to be a part of, but was still recovering. Coulson told Morse she'd be flying him and Fitz to pick up Elliot Randolph from Norway to help with the Monolith, and as Hunter left, Morse kissed him and repeated their "Don't die out there" reminder.
Morse flew Coulson and Fitz out to a prison where Randolph was being kept, where Coulson asked the Asgardian for help, and he begrudgingly accepted. They brought Randolph to the Playground to show him the Monolith, of which he claimed he wouldn't be much help on, but Morse pulled him up on the fact that he could actually help, but was planning on escaping, and that the reason he came was to see if it was real. With this revealed, and not knowing what Morse was capable of, Randolph agreed to help, but only if the Monolith was destroyed afterwards. They filled him in on the Monolith, which lead to him remembering a castle in England, so they headed there.
Entering the castle, the four explored it, soon finding a secret room, where Morse teased Randolph about it being similar to a bunker under the Lourve. They then discovered a hole that would fit the Monolith, leading to Fitz determining that the room was a machine, capable of activating the Monolith, so Mackenzie and Johnson were called down to bring the stone. When Johnson spoke about Garner evaluating them, Morse accurately predicted what he said about her struggles with physical limitations and sense of self. Johnson was able to activate the Monolith with her powers, and Fitz jumped in it, successfully bringing Simmons back to Earth, and the Monolith was destroyed.[28]
Jemma Simmons' Request[]
- "You're safe. That portal won't open again."
"But it has to. I have to go back." - ―Bobbi Morse and Jemma Simmons[src]
Returning to the Playground, the team talked about Jemma Simmons' recovery and the experiences she had on the alien planet, including being hunted by an unknown enemy, with Morse praising Leo Fitz for rescuing her.
While working in the lab, Morse was visited by Simmons, who she warmly greeted, and showed the remains of the Monolith, but had to leave when Lance Hunter called her to check in. In private, Morse spoke with Hunter, filling him in on what was happening back at the base with Simmons, and he told her about his progress with the hunt on Grant Ward, saying that there wasn't much progress, although she knew he was lying. Worried about the danger of the mission, Morse repeated their "Don't die out there" reminder to Hunter, and ended the call.
Morse continued her knee rehabilitation in the gym, accompanied by Fitz, where he talked with her about Simmons being distant, and not knowing how to help her. Morse reminded Fitz what he told her when she started rehabbing her knee, about being patient, and that having everything set up exactly as used to be probably reminded Simmons about all the time she had lost, so it'd be best to give her something new to look forward to, and start fresh. Fitz thanked Morse for her advice, and left her to finish her rehab.
The rehabilitation session went on for the rest of the day, as Morse continued pushing herself physically to get back on the field. When she finished, she headed back to her room, passing the lab, where she discovered Simmons examining the Monolith's remains, trying to understand it. Morse claimed there was nothing left to understand about it, but Simmons claimed it may not be inert, as they suspected, so Morse told Simmons she was safe, and the portal will never open again. However, Simmons determinedly stated that it had to, as she needed to go back to the alien planet.[29]
Hidden Secrets[]
After Lash killed two potential Inhuman recruits for S.H.I.E.L.D., Phil Coulson called Morse and Leo Fitz to the scene, pretending to be the local authorities, so that they could do forensics on the scene before the official authorities arrived. Morse suggested her providing Daisy Johnson and Alphonso Mackenzie with backup, but Coulson refused, as she was still in rehab.
Morse discovered a hair fragment from Lash, but when she went to bag it, Fitz corrected her for not following the system he and Jemma Simmons developed. When asking if Simmons would be ready to be looking at the samples, Morse inquired Fitz about if she talked about her experiences, discretely wondering if Simmons had told him about wanting to reopen the portal, but he knew nothing of it, so Morse lied about knowing nothing, too. They were then forced to leave the building when they overheard helicopters arriving at the location.
Returning to the Playground, Morse confirmed that Lash was an Inhuman, making them wonder why he was killing his own kind, and how he was able to locate them. Johnson revealed it was because the email the couple received revealed their location, and when Coulson ordered to pass the information to the Advanced Threat Containment Unit, Morse wondered why, but Coulson explained they likely would have more information of the matter, and that working with them was their best way of getting the answers they needed.
Later, Morse noticed that the hair sample from Lash was deteriorating; Fitz questioned if she had properly contained the sample, which she did, but he had her check it again. While supervising Morse's work, Fitz found a notebook containing Simmons' research into the Monolith, making Morse nervous. Simmons rushed into the lab and abruptly took the notebook from Fitz, asking Morse had she betrayed their secret. Morse attempted to calm Simmons, but she stormed off, causing Fitz to wonder what she had told Morse, which she felt would be better coming from Simmons.
As Morse continued her rehab, which she had doubts was actually working, Simmons spoke with her about it, assuring her she'll make a full recovery soon enough. Simmons then apologized for snapping at her earlier, but Morse was completely understanding, and asked if she had told anyone else that she wanted to return to Maveth, insisting that she let Fitz know the truth. Morse commented on how Fitz had been driving her crazy in the lab, and also confessed she had a strong feeling that Lance Hunter was in trouble.
When Morse walked into the hangar, she was confused by Coulson leaving with an entire tactical team, so Fitz explained to her that Hunter and Melinda May had tracked Grant Ward's location, but it seemed like a dangerous situation. Morse was completely unaware of this, and was unsure why she was not informed by Coulson of Hunter's status, which Fitz realized from her reaction, stating that he also knows how it feels not to be told something, referring to how she and Simmons were keeping a secret from him.[30]
Return to Field Work[]
Melinda May's Test[]
- "Coulson still has me off combat duty. The tests say that my lung isn't healed all the way yet."
"My test says otherwise. Wheels up in 20. Welcome back, Agent Morse." - ―Bobbi Morse and Melinda May[src]
Morse was performing her rehabilitation routine when Melinda May entered and pushed her against the wall, angered about Andrew Garner getting hurt because of Lance Hunter's actions. Morse attempted to ease May, but when she became more violent, Morse fought back until she pinned May, who revealed it was a test to see if she was mission ready. Morse stated that Phil Coulson hadn't given her the all clear, but May assured her she was ready, and told her to prepare for a mission.
Before they left, Hunter stopped them to speak with Morse, saying he wanted to join them on the mission. Morse reminded him of his actions, and refused to let him join them. Hunter checked if Morse was truly ready to go after Grant Ward, and she confidently said she was, so Hunter wished her luck. Morse enquired about him not saying their "Don't die out there" reminder, but Hunter explained that she already knew it. During the flight, May informed Morse of Werner von Strucker, and that they're going after him to find Ward.
Learning of Strucker's active bank account in the Cayman Islands, Morse and May, in disguise as "Katelin Frayer" and "Shu Wong," respectively, infiltrated the building, and used a Pick-Lock Device to retrieve Strucker's lock box. Equipped with the Backscatter Glasses, Morse scanned contents of the box to Leo Fitz to find a way to track Ward, but they were stopped when the alarm was triggered. Surrounded by security, May prepared for a fight, but Morse quickly made up a cover to talk their way out of the situation, but they ended up fighting to escape.
After Fitz inspected Strucker's passports, he informed Morse and May of a penthouse in Portugal, where Strucker had arrived a few hours ago. May brought up the incident at the bank with Morse, asking if she wanted to talk about it, so Morse, knowing what May was thinking, said she was treating fighting as a last resort. However, May felt that Morse may still not be ready mentally to be in the field, so she asked why, revealing that she scouted Morse at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy years ago. May then advised Morse to let her experience with Ward strengthen her.[5]
Skirmish in Lisbon[]
Melinda May and Morse entered the Penthouse where Kebo was torturing Werner von Strucker, kicking down the door and surprising the HYDRA agents. Kebo smiled at the chance to kill May, whom he had encountered during the Attack on Grant Ward, before stabbing von Strucker in the stomach and running from the room; Morse followed him outside while May dealt with Kebo's men and rescued von Strucker.
Outside, Morse, steeling herself for battle, fought her way through two HYDRA agents, before getting attacked by Kebo himself. Using her batons, Morse fought him, but Kebo dragged her into the pool and held her below the water, teasing her that he has fought bigger men than her. Desperate, Morse managed to reach one of her batons that had also fallen into the pool. She hit Kebo, forcing him to release her, then dragged herself from the pool. As Kebo moved to get out as well, asking her how she had any hopes of defeating him, Morse used her batons to send electricity into the water, electrocuting Kebo, saying that her experiences were the deciding factor.[5]
As they returned from Lisbon, Morse noticed May looking distressed, so she informed her that Andrew Garner had fully recovered, and that they will stop HYDRA. Morse expressed her desire for May to stick around with S.H.I.E.L.D., as in addition to the HYDRA threat, they were still dealing with the Inhuman Outbreak, the ongoing hunt for Lash, and problems with the ATCU. May enquired more about Lash, so Morse explained that he was a monster killing other Inhumans, and that he transformed into a man, so it was difficult to track him.[31]
Retaining Integrity[]
- "I don't need a knight in shining armor, Hunter. I need you alive. I don't want to lose you."
- ―Bobbi Morse to Lance Hunter[src]
While Morse was in the locker room of the Playground changing her clothes and checking her wounds, Lance Hunter entered, joking how she did not need to dress around him. Morse told him about her experience in Lisbon and the death of Kebo. She then decided that she no longer wanted revenge on Grant Ward, to the confusion of Hunter. Morse explained to him that the two of them were changing and ultimately would become as demented as Ward if they continued their quest. Declaring their love for one another, the two decided that their plot was over.
Afterwards, Morse and Hunter sat in the laboratory of Leo Fitz as he reviewed the videos of Jemma Simmons from her time on Maveth. Fitz showed them a picture of Will Daniels and that his spacesuit had an emblem similar to a symbol that was in the English castle where they had retrieved Simmons weeks ago. Morse reminded Fitz that Daniels was a member of NASA; however, Fitz gave a theory in which an organization bigger than NASA may be actually behind the exploration of the Monolith. While Morse encouraged Fitz to pursue his theory, Hunter thought it was lunacy.[31]
Operation Spotlight[]

- ―Bobbi Morse to Lance Hunter[src]
Having gained suspicions about where the Advanced Threat Containment Unit were storing their captured Inhumans, Phil Coulson started Operation Spotlight and assigned Morse and Lance Hunter to infiltrate Endotex Labs. Morse went undercover as "Agent Phillips", an agent of the FBI, with Hunter as "Dane", a computer specialist who once hacked the Pentagon, to distract Steve Wilson while Morse left the room for a "phone call" and then started to check the building for any Inhumans.
Morse checked a room where she found doses of Nature Max Supplements Fish Oil and cases with Inhuman remains. Meanwhile, Luther Banks and R. Giyera arrived and exposed Hunter, forcing him to run to Morse. Just when they were together, Giyera found the two and revealed himself as an Inhuman with the power of telekinesis. Morse attempted to fend off Giyera, but the Inhuman gained the upper hand. Just when Morse was at the verge of defeat, Hunter knocked out Giyera. Luther Banks appeared and, by orders of Rosalind Price, helped the duo escape.[6]
HYDRA Revelation[]
During the infiltration, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons had found out that HYDRA was partly embedded in the Advanced Threat Containment Unit on the behalf of Gideon Malick, revealing him to be a HYDRA head and R. Giyera to be an operative. Phil Coulson interrogated Rosalind Price and to her surprise found out the same information. When Morse and other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents found out, they realized that the NASA operation Project Distant Star Return that Will Daniels had participated in was in reality under control of HYDRA as the logo bore similarity with the very first HYDRA emblem, much to everyone's surprise.[6]
Kidnapping Thomas Ward[]
- "Please don't kill me."
"Nobody wants that." - ―Thomas Ward and Bobbi Morse[src]
After Grant Ward assassinated Rosalind Price, Phil Coulson returned to the Playground enraged, causing him to attack Lance Hunter for failing to kill Ward previously. Morse got Coulson to release Hunter, and he revealed that he was going to go after Ward, and that he required Morse and Hunter for the mission, despite her hesitations, having recently decided to give up Ward.
Flying the Quinjet for Coulson and Hunter, Morse learned that their mission was to kidnap Thomas Ward, Ward's younger brother. Once they had retrieved Thomas, Coulson called Ward and showed him a video feed of Hunter holding a gun to Thomas's head. When Coulson hung up the phone, Thomas explained his life growing up with Ward. Ward soon called back, and while he spoke to Thomas, Morse tracked his location though the call. Once she had the location, they dropped Thomas off, and he asked if Hunter really would have shot him, but Morse didn't answer.
Morse flew the Quinjet to the HYDRA Castle, and expressed to Coulson her concern for him letting his emotions effect the mission, but he disregarded her worries. The team watched a thermal scan of beings in the castle, seeing that the portal was open and men were going through it. Coulson noted that one was Ward, and began putting on a parachute. Morse quickly asked Hunter to talk Coulson out of his plan, but Hunter kissed her and apologized for having the same plan. However, Coulson leaped from the Quinjet before Hunter, and Morse flew the Quinjet out of the reach of HYDRA.[32]
Attack on the HYDRA Castle[]
- "If we're here and we want to go there, we need to get past about a dozen HYDRA soldiers, and we need to do it as covertly as possible."
"Copy that." - ―Alphonso Mackenzie and Bobbi Morse[src]
As she and Lance Hunter landed on Zephyr One, Alphonso Mackenzie asked them why Phil Coulson had jumped from the Quinjet, so Hunter explained that Coulson felt that Grant Ward needed to be killed. Morse then said that Coulson went to save Jemma Simmons or Leo Fitz, one of whom was brought with HYDRA to the Maveth.
Morse said that they needed to take control of the portal chamber to make sure they would return, but Mackenzie nor Hunter believed the mission would be easy. As Morse tried to convince them, Daisy Johnson then found out that HYDRA brought to the HYDRA Castle contained Inhumans. Mackenzie then explained his plan that two infiltration teams would enter the castle, one to find Fitz or Simmons and the second to take over the portal chamber.
Once the team infiltrated the castle through its aqueduct, Mackenzie took Morse and Hunter with him to take control on the portal chamber. As they were checking their and the HYDRA soldiers' heat signing, Mackenzie said that they needed to go to the chamber through the soldiers as quiet as they could, so Morse pulled her staves and went to fight with them, alone. Hunter and Mackenzie immediately fought with her. They eventually managed to take over the chamber.
As she tied up the soldiers, Simmons entered the room with the rest of the group. Johnson asked how secured were they in the chamber, so Morse replied that not very good. Joey Gutierrez suggested that he could reinforce the doors with his powers, which Morse called them "amazing". Hunter and Gutierrez went to try that, and Morse led the way to Mackenzie. Once they regrouped, Simmons was afraid that Fitz could not find the portal, but Morse insured her that he would, as Coulson was with him. Simmons explained that Ward was sent by Gideon Malick to find in the distant planet the ancient HYDRA leader there. Morse mentioned the mission she had been sent to do by Nick Fury on the Iliad, and she thought that maybe Fury knew that HYDRA were looking for that creature. Morse then asked Simmons if she had seen the alien when she had been on Maveth and she responded positively. Lincoln Campbell suggested that they should destroy the portal to make sure the alien wouldn't come back, but Morse said that they had to save Coulson and Fitz.
Suddenly they felt the room was shaken. Hunter and Gutierrez entered the room and handed everyone a gun. Mackenzie ordered them to return to Zephyr One, as he would stay in the room. Hunter suggested that Morse and him would cover the entrances, but Mackenzie demanded they return to the plane, and if the alien or HYDRA would enter the room, they would blast the castle. They return to Zephyr One and waited for Mackenzie's orders. He then ordered Melinda May to blast the castle, as he returned in the Containment Module with Coulson, Johnson and Fitz.[33]
Conflict in Colombia[]
- "We can't put the Terrigen genie back in the bottle. Powers are the new normal."
- ―Bobbi Morse to Lance Hunter[src]
Morse, Lance Hunter and Alphonso Mackenzie investigated a weaponry abduction incident in Bogotá, with an Inhuman involved. Mackenzie was later kidnapped by the Inhuman, so they checked the security cameras and noticed that the Inhuman had super-speed abilities. With Daisy Johnson, they entered the Inhuman's home and rescued Mackenzie. In Zephyr One they learned that the Inhuman was Elena Rodriguez. Morse and Hunter went to check what she had done with the weapons. They found her cousin throwing the weapons into the river.
As they arrested him, Victor Ramon and Lucio from the National Police of Colombia came and refused to leave. Morse pulled out her staves, ready for battle, but Lucio revealed himself to be Inhuman, and paralyzed Morse and Hunter with his eyes and then took them to the station. The two woke up on the floor of the station, but Lucio entered the room and paralyzed Hunter again. Ramon questioned Morse about her doings in Bogotá, but she only responded that there was an alien invasion. As the team entered the station, Mackenzie came to the room and knocked Ramon out. Morse warned him about Lucio. As the team walked with the captive Lucio, a HYDRA QuadCopter flew over them, caught him and escaped.[34]
Infiltrating the Taiwan Symposium[]
- "Humans, we know. Inhumans are brand-new territory. People fear what they don't understand."
- ―Bobbi Morse to Daisy Johnson[src]
As Morse and Daisy Johnson prepared for the "Symposium on the Alien Contagion", they first complained about the panic humans made of the Inhumans, and how not all of them meant to harm people. Morse said that Inhumans they did not know couldn't be trusted. In Phil Coulson's office, Glenn Talbot, the new ATCU head, tried to convince the agents to let Carl Creel join the mission. Morse disagreed with it, since he was a murderer. However, Coulson allowed Creel to join the mission. He told his agents that they couldn't bring weapons to the symposium.
In the symposium, Morse, Melinda May and Lance Hunter disguised as waiters and entered the delegates' room to find a clue that one of them was Gideon Malick's inside man. May ordered Morse to go to Ellen King's room. She used the Pick-Lock Device to open her safe, and found a document on an Inhuman King possessed. Morse and May found Hunter threatened with guns by security men. They knocked them out and Morse discovered they were HYDRA. Hunter brought her staves and she said she loved him. The two went to find Coulson and Talbot. They encountered HYDRA agents and they managed to kill them, with the help of Creel. Coulson then ordered them to go to Malick's plane and find out where he went.[35]
Captured in Siberia[]
- "This is the job. We have to make certain sacrifices, like, free time."
"Where do you draw the line? The sacrifices we've made, the compromises we've made."
"Where's this coming from?" - ―Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter[src]
Morse and Lance Hunter followed Gideon Malick to Siberia. With the help of Leo Fitz, they followed Malick's car convoy to a compound into the forest.
While they were observing the compound, Hunter asked her what was the last time they had been together on a vacation. Morse couldn't remember and claimed that part of being an agent was to sacrifice vacations. Morse watched an Inhuman, covered on his face with an advanced mask. Suddenly, Russian soldiers showed up, pointing their guns at them. Morse tried to trick them that the pair was lost, but they did not believe, so the pair knocked them out. Morse heard from one of the soldiers' radio that Russian ministers arrived to the compound.
Daisy Johnson, Melinda May and Alphonso Mackenzie landed with a Quinjet to assist Morse and Hunter. Morse informed them on what she had heard on the radio and that the ministers were probably meeting with Malick to see the Inhuman. They planned to get inside the compound. After they infiltrated the compound, Morse disguised herself as a Russian minister. She infiltrated the meeting and planted a listening device so the other teammates could listen to the conversation. Morse listened to Malick, as he explained he wanted to use the Inhuman, General Androvich, to assassinate the Russian Prime Minister.
After the meeting was over, Morse followed Malick but was interrupted by a man who asked her where her tie was. To keep her cover, she hit him. As the Prime Minister arrived to the compound, Phil Coulson ordered the agents to go to protect him from Androvich. The team converted to his meeting, and with a smoke bomb, Morse, Johnson and Mackenzie kidnapped Androvich. As they were walking with him, Androvich realized he was kidnapped. Suddenly, a shadow appeared from the wall and attacked them.
The shadow was immune to their attacks, even to Morse's battle staves. After he knocked out Mackenzie, the shadow disappeared with Androvich. Jemma Simmons told them that the shadow couldn't be defeated. Morse said that they would only stop the shadow by killing Androvich. The shadow attacked again and Morse managed to leap him, but disappeared again. Johnson started to ask how could they defeat him and the shadow lifted her to the ceiling and knocked her out. As Mackenzie brought her back to Zephyr One, Morse ran after Androvich. Hunter protected the Prime Minister and was attacked by the shadow. Morse found Androvich and shot him to death. She immediately threw her gun and surrendered to the soldiers. She asked Hunter if she was alright, but he did not answer.[4]
Leaving S.H.I.E.L.D.[]
- "We took an oath. To be the shield."
"To protect those in danger."
"Now S.H.I.E.L.D., this team, is in the crosshairs. And the right thing for us to do is take the bullet." - ―Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter to Phil Coulson[src]
Morse and Lance Hunter were brought to an Interpol facility, where they were interrogated by inspector Duval on the murder of Androvich, Anton Petrov and the Yuri Krupin.
As he presented the charges, Morse did not break, saying she wanted a cheeseburger. Duval then used a polygraph on Morse and asked questions about her past and what she had done in Siberia, but Morse said that she and Hunter were on vacation. Duval then showed her a picture of Krupin's body and asked if she had killed him, to which she said no. He then took her answer to mean Hunter had killed Krupin, in an attempt to make it a confession to frame him, which angered Morse. He told her he would be put on a trial and probably be executed. Morse heard him scream for her.
Later, Hunter was brought to Morse's room. They spoke and Hunter said to Morse he couldn't see how everyone could win in this scenario. Morse said that not everybody should win, hinting they would be leaving S.H.I.E.L.D. to keep it a secret. Phil Coulson then entered the room. Shorting out the prison's video system, Coulson told the two that he would set off an EMP allowing them the pair to escape.
However, Morse and Hunter refused to run, stating that to protect S.H.I.E.L.D., they would allow themselves to be disavowed. They were then allowed to leave, as the suspicion they were S.H.I.E.L.D. agents was refuted. Although, because of their arrangement, they were no longer able to return to being with S.H.I.E.L.D. or have any contact with those associated with the organization.[4]
Spy's Goodbye[]
Raising a Glass[]
- "It's the Spy's Goodbye."
- ―Bobbi Morse to Lance Hunter[src]
Keeping a low profile, Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse went to Teddy's Bar to discuss where they should go on a vacation, knowing that intelligence agencies were trailing them. The waitress brought them drinks from different people. They found Phil Coulson, Melinda May, Daisy Johnson, Jemma Simmons, Leo Fitz and Alphonso Mackenzie in the bar. Morse knew it was the "Spy's Goodbye"; without directly contacting them, they all ordered shots for the two, saying goodbye in the only way they could. Mackenzie was the only one who did not drink, so he could share one with them alone. He cried for the leaving of his good friends, and Morse cried as well, as he left the bar. The pair held hands.[4]
Being with Lance Hunter[]
- "How are things with Bobbi?"
"Good. Yeah. We're 100% compatible... 50% of the time. Nearly got married again. Until the ninjas showed up."
"So... you are together?"
"Together forever. Just... doing our own thing. Distance is our savior." - ―Lance Hunter to Leo Fitz[src]
Morse and Lance Hunter continued their relationship. The couple almost got married again, but the ceremony was interrupted by ninjas. However, their relationship still remained rocky, and thus they agreed to take breaks from each other every once in a while. After Hunter helped Leo Fitz escape from Blue Raven Ridge and find a way to save the rest of his team, Morse and Hunter were tasked with looking after Polly and Robin Hinton.[36]
Watching Over the Hintons[]
- "We'll look after those two. Bobbi could use a good cause."
- ―Lance Hunter to Enoch[src]
Morse would meet back up with Lance Hunter and the two would look over Polly and Robin Hinton who were living in the Retreat, as Hunter felt that Morse would benefit with doing something for a good cause. A few months later, Daisy Johnson had James Davis fly in the Hintons to the Lighthouse so Robin could help find Phil Coulson, concluding the couples commitment to watch over them.[37]
Personality[]
- "I had to make a choice when I was inside HYDRA – protect my cover by giving them a S.H.I.E.L.D. safe house that might be occupied or blow my cover and lose intel that I knew for a fact would get two dozen S.H.I.E.L.D. agents killed."
"So you did sell me out."
"I'm sorry you were in that safe house, but I did the right thing." - ―Bobbi Morse and Kara Palamas[src]
Bobbi Morse is a warm and friendly woman while at the same time, holds a fierce determination and incredible protectiveness about those she cares about. She is very good with people, as she won over Jemma Simmons after revealing her true allegiance to S.H.I.E.L.D., is good friends with Alphonso Mackenzie and was able to befriend the members of Phil Coulson's S.H.I.E.L.D. faction, despite the fact her ex-husband Lance Hunter had been telling everyone that she was a 'demonic hell-beast'.
While she is exceptionally good at deception, Bobbi does not like lying to those close to her, especially when her true allegiance came to light. After Robert Gonzales' S.H.I.E.L.D. faction had taken over the Playground, Morse's loyalty was torn, as she wanted to stay loyal to Gonzales but she had also made friends in Coulson's faction and was upset by their reaction to her true loyalty. She was even quicker to forgive Fitz's withholding of the fact that Skye underwent terragenesis than Jemma, who took his perceived deception very personally, with Morse even reasoning that Fitz's intentions were noble despite the fact she argued earlier with him that the rest of the team had a right to know what Skye has become. Bobbi also has strong morals and is unprejudiced as she refused to harm Skye and tried to stop Tomas Calderon from shooting her and later defended her from Robert Gonzales when he called her 'it'. Bobbi yet again showed her unprejudiced beliefs when she stated that the Inhumans shouldn't be considered enemies since they did not know anything about them.
Bobbi has been shown to be exceptionally strong-willed and stubborn, as she refused to break even when tortured by Grant Ward and Kara Palamas for her actions and she said that nothing will make her change her mind, something that was noticed by the former, who went on to praise Bobbi for it.
Abilities[]
- "But if anyone can handle him, it's Bobbi."
- ―Melinda May[src]
- Master Martial Artist: As a trained S.H.I.E.L.D. operative, Morse is highly skilled in combat, with her fighting style comprised of Aikido, Boxing, Judo, Kali, Karate, Krav Maga, Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Sambo, and Taekwondo. While undercover, Morse has used her fighting skills to rise within the ranks of HYDRA to head of security. She easily defeated many of her former subordinates as head of security in the HYDRA Laboratories, Toshiro Mori's bodyguards and Marcus Scarlotti's mercenaries, and also managed to hold her own against Alphonso Mackenzie when he temporarily became the sentry of the Kree City. Morse displayed enough skill to temporarily battle a Kree warrior, Vin-Tak, and fight the highly skilled Melinda May on even terms. She was also able to equal Grant Ward in hand-to-hand combat, who only defeated her with the help of Kara Palamas.
- Staff Mastery: While skilled in many forms of combat and with many weapons, Morse has the greatest skill with her trademark weapon, her twin staves. She used these to escape HYDRA with Jemma Simmons. She also used them against Kebo as well as Alphonso Mackenzie when he became a Kree Sentry. She eventually got some upgrades and earned the ability to call her weapon back to her hands with the help of new staves. She used these against R. Giyera.
- Expert Marksman: Through her training with S.H.I.E.L.D., Morse has become an accomplished sharpshooter, favoring the use of heavy caliber handguns. Morse walked into a hostile situation on the Iliad and killed multiple HYDRA operatives with one shot each. She was able to shoot and kill Toshiro Mori and Androvich.
- Expert Acrobat: Morse is a highly trained acrobat, performing a flip through a window to escape before Melinda May could react.
- "She can handle it; deception's her forte."
- ―Lance Hunter[src]
- Master Spy: Morse is apt at keeping secrets and working undercover, exemplified in her work in HYDRA Laboratories, and dying her hair from blond to brown to maintain her cover. She developed relationships, some romantic, like Toshiro Mori, for the purpose of gathering intelligence. She was also able to hide her true allegiance to Robert Gonzales' S.H.I.E.L.D. faction from Phil Coulson and the rest of his colleagues, with only Lance Hunter suspecting something was amiss.
- "That biology degree's finally coming in handy, huh?"
- ―Phil Coulson to Bobbi Morse[src]
- Expert Scientist: Morse has a degree in biology. She was asked to assess the Truncheon and documented its capabilities; however, her skills as a scientist were not good enough for her to learn anything of value when she was a spy in HYDRA Laboratories. During the absence of Jemma Simmons and while Leo Fitz searched for her, Morse took charge of the laboratory, and analyzed technology from the Advanced Threat Containment Unit and biological samples from newly discovered Inhumans.
- "Didn't want to crack him yourself?"
"Bobbi is as good as they come." - ―Skye and Phil Coulson[src]
- Expert Interrogator: Morse has a great skill at reading people and getting inside their minds. She was able to figure out Sunil Bakshi's entire past and personality, despite him only saying eight words to her. When Bakshi did talk to her, Morse was able to analyze what he said and find the information that was necessary. Morse finds it easier to read a person when he/she is speaking English. Morse was able to read Elliot Randolph and determine that he was doing a threat assessment of her and her teammates and that Randolph was only with them to verify the authenticity of the Monolith.
- "You're going too, Agent Morse. We need a pilot."
- ―Phil Coulson[src]
- Pilot: Morse piloted the Quinjet to Puerto Rico. She piloted also when Phil Coulson, Leo Fitz, Elliot Randolph sought to free Jemma Simmons from the Monolith, going between the Playground, Norway, and England.
- "She speaks Japanese."
"She has this annoying knack for picking things up very quickly." - ―Melinda May and Lance Hunter[src]
- Multilingualism: Morse is fluent in her native English, as well as Japanese, Portuguese, Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish, having used her Japanese to gain Toshiro Mori's trust and Russian to communicate with soldiers unable to speak English. She also spoke Russian on her mission to save Prime Minister Dimitri Olshenko from an assassination. Despite her multilingual skills, however, Morse prefers speaking English during her missions.
Equipment[]
Weapons[]
- Battle Staves: Morse's weapon of choice are a pair of batons that function as a blunt weapon and are capable of electrocuting an enemy. She carries her staves in holsters on her back. She has the habit of twirling them to help her think.
- Smith & Wesson M&P: The Smith & Wesson M&P pistol is the standard sidearm carried by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, and, as such, Morse was issued one as she returned to S.H.I.E.L.D. from her undercover mission within HYDRA. She had to hand her weapon to Lance Hunter to approach Toshiro Mori using her HYDRA cover, but she recovered it to kill Mori, and also used it to navigate through the Ponce de León Theater in Puerto Rico in order to stop HYDRA from carrying the Diviner into the Kree City. She also had the gun when she went to Milwaukee to apprehend Calvin Zabo, finding Phil Coulson instead, and when Gordon and Raina briefly infiltrated the Iliad looking for the Monolith. Morse carried it as her service weapon, threatening Francisco Rodriguez before knowing his true motives to steal weapons from the National Police of Colombia, or killing General Androvich during her final mission for S.H.I.E.L.D.
- FN Five-seveN: The standard side-arm used by HYDRA security officers. Morse was issued one during her undercover assignment as head of security, and used it in a shootout against her former subordinates once she had to blow her cover in order to protect Jemma Simmons.
- Glock 17: Morse dual-wielded a Glock 17 alongside her standard Smith & Wesson M&P pistol during the Battle on the Iliad, killing the HYDRA operatives that held Alphonso Mackenzie hostage.
- Heckler & Koch MP5A3: Morse was given one of these weapons by Lance Hunter and Joey Gutierrez, who took many of them from the HYDRA operatives they had already knocked unconscious in order to barricade themselves inside the portal chamber of the HYDRA Castle. and used it to escape from the castle following Alphonso Mackenzie's orders.
Other Equipment[]
- S.H.I.E.L.D. Uniform: Morse possesses a tactical uniform that she has worn during many missions for S.H.I.E.L.D.. Her uniform is a high collared, skintight, grey jumpsuit with black detailing and with blue panels running from her upper torso to her knees as well as on her elbows. On top of that, the suit she wears possesses a harness scabbard for her battle staves with shoulder pads attached. She also wears fingerless gloves, shock-absorbers on her forearms, and thigh-high boots.
- Backscatter Glasses: Morse used the Backscatter Glasses as she sought Werner von Strucker. Leo Fitz was able to screen her through the glasses information about von Strucker and Jerome Deschamps.
- Pick-Lock Device: Morse used a Pick-Lock Device during the infiltration to the Symposium on the Alien Contagion. With the device she opened Ellen King's safe and took from it her files.

Facilities[]
- HYDRA Laboratories: During her undercover mission within HYDRA's ranks, Morse worked in one of the organization's main laboratories, where she appeared as a highly intimidating figure. She eventually left the laboratories after helping Jemma Simmons, whose identity had been compromised by Raina, evade the facility.
- Playground: Being a double agent sent by Robert Gonzales to infiltrate Phil Coulson's faction of S.H.I.E.L.D., Morse spent a lot of time in the Playground once her undercover mission in HYDRA was ended, although she frequently left to report back to Gonzales on the Iliad. She eventually fully resided in the Playground after the merge between the two S.H.I.E.L.D. factions. Although generally working as a field agent, Morse assisted the science team in the Playground's laboratories during her recovery time after the heavy injuries she had suffered at the hands of Grant Ward and Kara Palamas. Morse was eventually forced to leave the Playground after S.H.I.E.L.D. disavowed her, with her belongings in the base being returned to her.
Prisons[]
- Interpol Black Site: Along with her ex-husband Lance Hunter, Morse was detained in a secret facility of Interpol after being arrested in the aftermath of the Infiltration into the Russian Inhuman Sanctuary. She was interrogated by Duval who was determined to make her confess her affiliation to S.H.I.E.L.D., but Morse held on long enough for Phil Coulson to intervene and have her released, albeit at the price of Morse being then disavowed by the agency.

Trivia[]
- In the comics, Bobbi Morse, better known by her codename Mockingbird, is an Avenger and the ex-wife of Clint Barton, as well as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. known as Agent 19 and in the All-New and All-Different Marvel run of Marvel Comics, served as a liaison between S.H.I.E.L.D. and Parker Industries and was briefly in a relationship with Peter Parker when he moved in with her after he had to destroy his company to prevent it from falling into HYDRA's hands. However, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Laura Barton assumes the role of Agent 19 and wife of Barton, while Morse is instead the ex-wife of Lance Hunter.
- Morse has a strong dislike of needles, something Grant Ward took advantage of in order to torture her.
- Morse thought about trying a fish oil pill since she had a hard time rehabilitating her knee.
- Morse appears to be a fan of Star Wars as seen wearing a shirt with the franchise logo.
