History[]
Imprisonment of Anton Vanko[]
Siberia was the place chosen by Soviet authorities to imprison Russian physicist Anton Vanko after he was deported back to the U.S.S.R. in 1967. Soviet government sent him to a prison in Siberia, serving for 20 years, due to being unable to develop the Arc Reactor technology by himself, given that he developed it in the United States of America with Howard Stark, the man who ordered his deportation.[1]
Awakening of the Winter Soldier[]
By December 1991, Vasily Karpov, a Soviet Union HYDRA agent arrived to the HYDRA Siberian Facility to awaken Winter Soldier from his cryostatis. Karpov ordered him to eliminate Howard Stark who managed to replicate Abraham Erskine's Super Soldier Serum, and also extract the serum. Winter Soldier complied his mission and returned to Siberia with the samples.[2]
Training Other Winter Soldiers[]
The Super Soldier Serum was later given to five enhanced individuals who eventually transformed into Winter Soldiers. During one of the training sessions at the HYDRA compound, The original Winter Soldier, was quickly overpowered by Josef. However, he killed a doctor that attempted to check his vitals. As a result, a riot erupted with the five Winter Soldiers attacking their HYDRA superiors. When the HYDRA agents eventually subdued the other Winter Soldiers, Vasily Karpov decided to put them under Cryostasis Chambers until their mind could be controlled completely. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union not long after, the facility was abandoned with the Winter Soldiers still under suspended animations.[2]
Imprisonment of the Ranskahov Brothers[]
Brothers Vladimir and Anatoly Ranskahov were arrested and imprisoned at Utkin Prison to serve their sentence, due to their illegal activities in Moscow. They were heaped in a cell with inhumane conditions along with other inmates named Alexei and Oleg during three years.
Anatoly was tortured along with Oleg, however, only Anatoly survived, and taken back to his cell, where his brother, Vladimir was also kept with the rotting Alexei's corpse. Vladimir asked where Oleg was, and when he answered that he had died, Vladimir told him they only needed each other. However, Anatoly was not sure about his own survival. Vladimir promised they would leave together that night, and showed him a weapon made from one of Alexei's ribs.
Anatoly wondered where could Vladimir have obtained it, and he said it was a gift from Alexei, telling him that the guards should not have left him there from the rats, and proceeded to take another rib to make a second weapon.
Anatoly wanted to return to Moscow and regain their status there, but Vladimir told him they should head to America, promising they would rule as kings. The brothers successfully escaped the prison, and traveled to New York City, becoming leaders of their criminal organization.[3]
Undercover Mission[]
Agent Shaw was tasked by S.H.I.E.L.D. to infiltrate a Russian underground prison in Siberia in order to collect information about a separatist group in South Ossetia and a weapon they managed to obtain, the Overkill Device.
Phil Coulson got himself captured and brought to the same prison, in order to provoke his captors and being interrogated, as the interrogator was none other than agent Shaw. Coulson revealed to Shaw his cover had been blown and needed to escape. Melinda May and Grant Ward defeated the guards and escaped from the facility, using a motorized sled to arrive at the Bus.[4]

Zemo's Revenge[]
- "He wanted to know about Siberia. Where I was kept. He wanted to know exactly where."
- ―Bucky Barnes[src]
In 2016, Helmut Zemo traveled to Siberia after he gained access to the HYDRA Siberian Facility using Vasily Karpov's belongings. Once there, he discovered five super soldiers from the Winter Soldier Program, who were being quarantined in a suspended animation, and proceeded to kill each one with a bullet to the head.
Shortly afterwards, Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes arrived at the facility via Quinjet. After entering the facility, they began to explore, but were startled by the presence of Tony Stark who apologized to Rogers and agreed to help them. The three then discovered the five dead soldiers in the colossal chamber and were met by Zemo, who confessed to instigating the recent terrorist attacks and the schism within the team. He then showed Stark the security footage of a brainwashed Barnes effortlessly murdering his parents.
An infuriated Stark started to attack Barnes, but Rogers defended him. After a fierce fight between the three, Barnes lost his prostethic arm and Rogers ultimately defeated Stark by temporarily damaging Stark's Arc Reactor. Rogers then helped Barnes up and walked away, but was told by Stark to leave his shield behind. He dropped his shield and left with Barnes.
Outside the facility, Zemo prepared to kill himself, feeling as if he had avenged his family, but was stopped by T'Challa, who took him away into custody.[2]

Maria Hill and members of S.H.I.E.L.D. brought a Helicarrier to Siberia and remained in the sky, ready to launch a nuclear missile if needed. However, as Danvers prepared to attack Thor, Thor's mother appeared via hologram to Thor telling him that she was on her way to see him. Thor then pledged to end his partying and Danvers flew away.[7]
Age of Ultron[]
In an alternate 2015, Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton went to the HYDRA Siberian Facility in order to find Arnim Zola's last downloaded copy of his analog consciousness. They found him and Zola agreed to assist them. Barton downloaded Zola into one of his arrows while Romanoff lured the Ultron Sentries to the facility. Once the Sentries arrived, Barton ambushed them and shot the arrow into a Sentry, transferring Zola over. As Romanoff assisted Zola out of the facility, Barton tried to keep the Sentries at bay. However, after they overwhelmed them, Barton sacrificed himself in order to kill the Sentries and allow Romanoff and Zola to escape. Outside the facility, Romanoff asked Zola why his plan failed and he told her that the hive mind of the Sentries was not in their universe.[8]
