"I see those guys... Those gods..."
"You don't think they need me."
"I think they do, which is a lot scarier. They're a mess."
―Laura Barton and Clint Barton[src]

Laura Barton, codenamed Agent 19, is a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, the wife of Clint Barton, and the mother of Cooper, Lila, and Nathaniel Barton. She and her children lived in secrecy for their own protection against enemies of her husband. However, during the Ultron Offensive, they were revealed to the Avengers, who were unaware of Clint's family. Barton reminded her husband of how proud she was of his role within the Avengers, but she needed him with her due to being pregnant with their third child. Clint chose to retire from the Avengers and be with his family, as Barton later gave birth to Nathaniel.

After coming out of retirement and getting involved in the Avengers Civil War, Clint was originally arrested, but eventually made a deal to be placed under house arrest in order to return to his family. In 2018, Barton, along with her three children, was killed by Thanos in the Snap. Five years later, they were all resurrected and the Barton family were once again reunited, after which they attended Tony Stark's funeral. Barton and Clint tried to move on from Clint's actions as Ronin during the time between Barton's death and resurrection. However, when Kate Bishop put on the suit that Clint used as Ronin, Barton had to watch her children while Clint stayed in New York City and helped Bishop clear her name. Clint discovered that the Tracksuit Mafia had gained access to a watch which was tied to her identity and retrieved it for her. Clint and Bishop brought the watch home to Barton on Christmas Day and the Bartons celebrated the holiday together with Bishop.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.[]

"They've been out of the game a long time, but their identity is still attached to that watch."
Clint Barton to Kate Bishop[src]

Laura met and fell in love with Clint Barton, whom she married.[5] Both Laura and Clint were S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, codenamed Agent 19 and Hawkeye, respectively. However, Laura decided to retire from S.H.I.E.L.D., and being concerned about the danger she would be put in being a former agent,[1] Nick Fury excluded her from S.H.I.E.L.D.'s files in order to protect her, as well as setting up a farmhouse in Iowa where they could live off-the-grid.[5] All that remained of Laura's former identity was a Rolex watch with the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo and her codename.[1]

Starting a Family[]

Barton and Clint went on to have two children together, Cooper and Lila, who they raised at the farmhouse, keeping them a secret as well. She was later introduced to Clint's partner, Natasha Romanoff, whom he had brought into S.H.I.E.L.D.. The two women formed a close friendship, with Barton welcoming Romanoff into their family and even appointing her an honorary aunt to their children.[5]

Married to an Avenger[]

In 2012, Clint became an Avenger, something that Barton fully supported. However, she had her concerns from time to time about whether the rest of the team had his best interests in mind, knowing Clint was always having to look after the Avengers and keep them grounded.

By 2015, Barton and Clint had decided to have another child, and she successfully became pregnant. Barton wanted to name their third child after Romanoff, due to their friendship, under the impression that it would be a girl. However, they would soon learn that the gender of the baby was a boy.

One night, Barton received a phone call from Clint checking in on her, but they were soon interrupted by Steve Rogers. When Rogers asked who he was talking to, Clint lied that it was his girlfriend.[5]

One day, as Barton was setting out art supplies, she saw her husband, along with the Avengers, enter the house, much to her surprise. Barton welcomed her husband back, as he apologized for not calling ahead about their guests.

Due to no one on the team except Natasha Romanoff knowing about her, they all stood in shock to learn of Clint's secret. He introduced the Avengers to Barton, who stated that she was aware of all their names. Suddenly, they were joined by their children. Steve Rogers then apologized to Barton for their sudden arrival, which Tony Stark added how they couldn't have called ahead due to not being aware of her existence. Clint informed the others about how Nick Fury helped him keep his family a secret and that he would like to keep it that way.

Barton was then greeted by Romanoff who asked about her namesake, to which Barton sheepishly revealed that the baby was going to be called "Nathaniel" instead of "Natasha," meaning they were having a boy. Romanoff was disappointed by this and spoke to her belly, calling the baby a traitor, much to Barton's amusement. She and Romanoff continued discussing the baby's progress with Clint and her children. Barton then provided Rogers, Stark, Bruce Banner, and Romanoff with a change of clothes.[5]

Concern for her Husband[]

Barton feels her husband's repaired skin

"You need to be sure that this team is really a team, and that they have your back. Things are changing for us. In a few months' time, you and me are gonna be outnumbered."
―Laura Barton to Clint Barton[src]

Barton and her husband then went to their bedroom, where he got changed and showed her his repaired skin from the Regeneration Cradle, assuring her that there was no difference. Barton informed him that if the Avengers were going to stay there at their house, some would have to sleep together in the same room, which Clint found humorous. However, this lead Barton to bring up the developing relationship between Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner, which Clint was unaware of, causing her to laugh and jokingly call him "Hawkeye" for not seeing it.

Barton has an important talk with her husband

Barton then asked about the recent incident, noticing how shaken up Romanoff was earlier. Clint told her about the Maximoff twins and how they hurt the team, noting that someone had to put them in check. Understanding that Clint meant himself, she then took the opportunity to address her concerns for him. Barton reaffirmed how she is incredibly proud of her husband's role as an Avenger and revealed she thought he was needed, due to how much of a mess they were.

Barton is comforted by her husband

Barton knew that Clint would always support the Avengers and ground them, but wondered if they always had his back. She then reminded Clint that in a few months, their third child would be born, so she needed him with her. Barton asked Clint to be sure of his place on the Avengers, as she didn't want to risk losing him. Clint understood her concerns and agreed to follow her advice. Barton and Clint kissed and as they watched Tony Stark and Steve Rogers outside, Barton felt his stomach, noting that she could feel a difference.

That night, after they all had dinner, Barton and her husband sat with their children for arts and crafts while the Avengers listened to Nick Fury. Barton then helped her children to bed as Clint joined the others. Later, as the Avengers prepared to leave, Clint said his goodbyes to Barton, telling her that he will finish re-flooring the sunroom once he returned, to which she joked that he would then find another part of the house to destroy. Clint then told Barton that this was his last project.

The Bartons then sent a Skype video of Nathaniel to Romanoff to show off their new child.[5] Shortly after, Clint relocated himself and his family to a new farmhouse.[4]
