]]>It’s so focused on referencing everything from the 90s that it actively sacrifices its storytelling for the joke. Fortunately, I love the 90s, so it worked on me a lot of the time.
]]>Lens Flare: The Movie
]]>Really cool rewatching a movie that you know will be a classic 20 years from now.
6 weeks of holiday movies on the podcast- The Ep. 1 Holdovers
]]>The exact movie the world needs right now, so of course it gets a half-hearted wide release before being rebranded as a “MAX ORIGINAL”. A taut drama that has less of an interest in sensational twists and turns, but instead laser focuses on examining (and cross-examining) the morals society (alleges) to hold at its highest.

]]>Simple, stellar— the kind of movie (among many) that perfectly captures what made Friedkin such a special director.
]]>Second time watching this and I connected with it a lot more. It still can be frustrating, but I’m sure if it was up to Costner we’d have every part of the story by now.
Has more life in its sizzle reel than most mainstream movies could muster up in 2 hours.
]]>Jacob is the fucking worst, in both the book and movie.
]]>Up there with one of the worst endings in recent memory. Burn it to the ground.
]]>This movie is just pro-Ohio propaganda. No one is moving back there to spiritually heal, let’s be honest.
Caleb Hearon’s arc saved the movie though.
]]>Crazy how there hasn’t been a better zombie since this movie came out. It’s almost like everyone saw this and just gave up.
Except The Waking Dead, which now has like 5 spin-offs lol

]]>Witnessed at the Egyptian in 35mm. Ethereal.
]]>Swore I’d never watch this again, yet here we are.
Released during the infancy of Netflix originals and maybe should have been our first warning sign of what was to come? Even if you’re able to somehow watch this in a vacuum and disassociate from the manga/anime. It’s incoherent at best, shallow at its worst.
Never going to blame Wingard for attempting the studio system rat race after gems like The Guest and You’re Next— at least there is some semblance of his style in this, couldn’t say the same applies to the Godzilla movies.
Possibly patient zero in how big streamer doesn’t care about the art you love, just how much money they can squeeze out of it.

]]>One of those movies where I recognize its flaws, but after 2 watches, it’s all I’ve been thinking about for the past week, so maybe I love it? Who knows, ratings are made up anyways.
]]>Dorothy Gale John Wick

Would kill for their dog
]]>Obviously a revered movie, but sometimes I think we take for granted how good these movies looked barely 20 years ago.
]]>Watched on Monday November 18, 2024.
]]>If this was made now it would have been a Netflix original and very bad.
]]>The first tumbler sequence is still wildly entertaining. Why did we never see more of that bat sonar thing? Seemed like it would have come in handy.
]]>Regressive and misguided, but based on the reactions to this movie, maybe the real hot take is that I think the musical numbers are actually very good and more musicals need that level of dynamism.

]]>Having Paul Mescal essentially be Maximus 2.0 sounds like a cool idea, but it’s ultimately a reminder that very few actors had the level of magnetism Crowe had in 2000. Wouldn’t say he is sauceless and the script rehashing the first movie isn’t doing his characters any favors, but there is an element that is missing.
Fortunately, Denzel is one of the greatest actors to walk this earth, so even when the movie crumbles under its own grandiosity towards the end, serving up a lukewarm climax, he is always there reminding us that he is the reason we are so entertained. Him and any scene that involves a battle in the colosseum.
]]>Hugh Grant does a Jar Jar Binks impression, that was the exact moment I knew I was going to like the movie no matter what.
]]>A movie made for iPad kids to watch on 2x speed while they try to get a Victory Royale fighting in Slurpy Swamp.
]]>Watched on Friday November 8, 2024.
]]>It’s never not interesting, I’ll give it that. It works as a collection of good scenes with no real connective tissue. Get rid of the entire river sequence and maybe the story can maintain and ounce of tension.
Podcasts are crazy because I thought I’d never watch this again. Wild how this movie had a stranglehold on the world for like 3 months. Bird Box challenge? Lol
]]>Watched on Thursday November 7, 2024.
]]>Cute movie because Zombie Nicholas Hoult is hot, probably a better movie if there’s more tension? A climax? If you’re going to do Romeo and Juliet, DO Romeo and Juliet.

So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause.
]]>More movies need to be a cross between 12 Angry Men and Gossip Girl. Or at the very least, we are in dire need of sturdy political thrillers with reliable actors and a banger score.
