Facu’s review published on Letterboxd:
Nolan applies his typical cinematic, blockbuster style to an equally gigantic story, which makes sense, but results in a double edged sword, by achieving incredible scenes of tension and unexpectedly nuanced human moments, but sometimes struggling to weave his convoluted stroytelling mechanics with the dense procedural aspects of the plot.
There's enough forward momentum (mainly through the editing and use of score) and occasionally weird (for Nolan) scenes to make for an interesting addition to his filmography, but quite a few moments were less than engaging, borderline boring for me.
The moral toll of the aftermath of the atomic bomb is one of the film's strongest elements and is further elevated by an unsurprisngly amazing Cillian Murphy performance.
I'm not ruling out this film growing on me on a rewatch, and a lot of it worked for me, but there's enough that didn't that prevents me from loving this one for now.
