This is an earth-shattering, alarming, and arresting atom bomb making-of. To assemble a bomb of this magnitude, Nolan rounds up a cast of established, breakthrough, and oh-that's-him actors...and the result sends ripples. In Oppenheimer, a government physicist's catastrophic creation leads to a crisis of conscience and officials conspiring to shame this scientist.
Aurally, Oppenheimer is superbly striking, and at one point an eruption of cheers are met with horrifying tears - definitely one of the film's most provocative scenes. Murphy, Blunt (sass game on point!), Downey Jr. and the ensemble are all terrific. Nolan has always written and staged his dialogue so caprivatingly. For me, Nolan's words on the page have felt like scripture. Hoyte van Hoytema's cinematography is expectedly impressive, as is Görannson's score. I also must mention that i appreciated the printed ties and the knitwear / sweater vest drip going on. For a 3-hour movie though (let's not set TOO MUCH of a precedent please), the pacing is felt a little, but otherwise this is a mighty piece of work.
