Too political.
Nah, just kidding. Seriously speaking, while it’s not exactly my type of a film, it’s an admirable, ambitious feat by Nolan and his best film since Interstellar.
The ensemble is very good, nothing spectacular, but very good. Cillian Murphy was long overdue for a lead role like this and the we haven’t seen enough of Robert Downey Jr. in serious roles.
The pacing is also great for a three-hour film. The film is more entertaining and less complicated than I expected.
I do think the sex scenes feel randomly explicit in the context, but I don’t complain given how sexless mainstream films usually are. It’s clear that Nolan wanted to emphasize the intimacy of that relationship. I mean these characters are sitting naked for a long while like it’s European cinema.
