Edwin 🦦’s review published on Letterboxd:
I have avoided La La Land for the longest time because I just don’t like musicals if I’m being honest. I always found them to be silly. Well, that has finally changed because this movie FUCKED ME UP.
I tend to come across “Mia & Sebastian’s Theme” from time to time on different platforms, especially on TikTok, but I didn’t really care for it at all. The first time I heard that theme in the movie, I started to get emotional. That was the realization that this movie was going to be special. There’s so much beauty here: the choreography, the music, the colors, and the love that surrounds the entire movie. The lovey-dovey scenes between Mia and Sebastian were heartfelt, but then I started to get teary eyed because I knew this was not going to end well. I should’ve known this because it’s LITERALLY called La La Land. A fantasy.
Shame on me for putting aside La La Land for so long. I cannot believe this movie got to me. The way this movie delves into the bittersweet nature of dreams has to be commended. Even though both characters achieve their goals, it comes at a cost. The question is: was it worth it?
