Damien Chazelle: How can you like La La Land, I thought you didn't like musicals.
Me: I do like musicals now because of YOU.

I think this is like my 20th rewatch of La La Land in total, and it still impacts me the same as it did on my first watch. I'll never get bored of it. Honestly I'm considering rewatching it again tomorrow, and there aren't many movies that make me do this.
-"Because maybe I'm not good enough!"
-"Yes, you are."
-"Maybe I'm not! (...) Maybe I'm one of those people that has always wanted to do it, but it's like a pipe dream for me, you know? And then you... you said it, you-you change your dreams, and then you grow up. Maybe I'm one of those people, and I'm not supposed to. And I can go back to school, and I can find something else I'm supposed to do. 'Cause I left to do that, and it's been six years, and I don't wanna do it anymore."
-"Why?"
-"Why what?"
-"Why don't you want to do it anymore?"
-"Cause I think it hurts a little bit too much.
This gets my creative juices flowing like crazy. No joke, as soon as the credits roll I feel like I can do whatever I set my mind to and take-over the world. Not many movies cause this reaction on me. I know most people think this is movie is heartbreaking and bla bla bla because of the ending, but for me it's a huge source of inspiration and reassurance that I'm going in the right direction. Like Damien once said, La La Land shows you that real life doesn't always live up to what you see in movies, and I love that idea and the way he chose to address it in the movie. It's the dance between dreams and reality that makes this so valuable to me. Whenever I'm feeling run-out and in need of a boost, I know I can always count on this masterpiece to bring me up.
-"Here's to the fools who dream, foolish as they may seem."
I have many idols that I'd love to have the opportunity to discuss their work with, and Damien sits at the top of that list. There's so many things in La La Land that I'd like to talk to him about, whether it's more technical stuff or related to the writing itself. I think I would pause the movie every ten seconds if I'm being honest, that's how annoying I am with this movie. I guess the best compliment I can give is that I always try to take a piece of La La Land with me, whether it's in my own projects or in my daily life.
-"I guess I'll see you in the movies."
