We often champion films as masterpieces because they maintain their relevancy over time. So a masterwork must be something that adds to it.
One of my least favorite trends of the last 3 or so years in film (which I'm possibly the most guilty of) is viewing films, music or art of any kind through the lens of the Trump era as a first reaction.
12 Angry Men, despite being over 60 years old, is the best possible critique of…
There's a moment when the main character is running through a crumbling town at night that honestly felt like I was staring at the face of god.
1917 is the war movie for people that don't like war movies. An intense, harrowing, odyssey that for the umpteenth time shows the brutality of war. Set in one of the last truly honorable wars the world has fought in, this rivals Saving Private Ryan in heart and Dunkirk in execution (The Thin…
I'll need another watch to figure out how I feel about the last 20 minutes or so.
Worst-case scenario: it'll be a somewhat disappointing ending to an outstanding first 2/3.
Best case: I'll appreciate this more once I know what to expect.
Some things won't change, however. One being that Brad Pitt delivers one of his best performances to date as Roy McBride. It's the kind of performance that's so good the…

Still so fuckin good. The textures, mood, music, all of it man.
There’s no practical reason for them to bring Jones along but goddamn it does he not give the best performance. The lack of concern in his eyes seeing a dude ripped apart by the xenomorph is something you just can’t teach. What an icon.
In a better world, Bradley Cooper would currently be an obvious front runner for his 2nd Oscar, and this movie would have cleaned house at 2013’s Academy Awards.
And Trump would currently be in the middle of 20+ year jail sentence, while Trump Jr. is fired from his job at Men’s Warehouse for sniffing the jeans.
But that’s beside the point. This is easily the best Goodfellas knockoff and parts of the two are even on par with each other.…
Whatever you're expecting this to be, it ain't that.
The Art of Self-Defense really caught me by surprise. I saw a trailer for it in front of The Dead Don't Die and I more or less expected it to be an off-kilter mumblecore anti-comedy.
I won't say what it ended up being, but wow does it take some swings.
Jesse Eisenberg is really solid (and sneaky hysterical) in a role that is as perfectly suited to him as Mark Zuckerberg.…
