Sandra Hüller’s face when she hears the song again, that’s acting, folks.
I was impressed with the narrative choices made here; all the more so by the way this just refuses to give a wink or a nudge to the truth, that final testimony serving as the ultimate “we’re giving you what you want, but are we really?” ending I just lap up every single time.
Great movie house tho, I bet Samuel would have done some incredible things with that attic. RIP.
This movie made me realize there is probably a split reality somewhere in the universe where Donald Trump is the beloved but insane owner of my New York Yankees and Hal Steinbrenner is a cartoonishly evil President Businessman.
Too lazy to write a big essay so here are some random thoughts.
- First, an observation. In the establishing shot right before Batman stalks Catwoman home, you can see Riddler watching them from his apartment. I love little touches like that.
- The only thing keeping this from 5-star territory (for now at least) is the story. I guess I just don’t love using the Long Halloween framework to tell a corruption story instead of a murder mystery. As…
It’s one of the all-time spectacles in effects, music, production design and such, but even after 5 or so watches I still can’t quite get into the story of Blade Runner.
A problem that the sequel overcomes in like 6 seconds, which is why it’s an all-timer for me.
Watching this made me realize how long it's been since I have seen a new studio comedy in the theater.
We should do more of those!
Eichner is one of the funniest people out there, and while this has all the wit and charm I've come to expect from him, this also has a few moments where it feels like he gets things off his chest that had been there a while, and, idk, it's pretty cool that he got over 3,300 screens in October to say them.
Pearce might give one of my 10 favorite performances of the decade here, but as a whole I just couldn’t get on this movie’s wavelength. Maybe I could have in the 2.5 hour version that’s buried within.
