Chronology - Volume 2-4

Volume summary: Kings and Wizards

The chronology pages describe the comics to assist scholars in finding the page on which something occurred. For each page of the comic, the chronology pages identify the characters that appear, actions taken, significant quotes, and other things of interest. Page numbers from the website are zero padded to three digits and in parentheses, for example: (005), (061), (113). Page numbers from print volumes are neither, for example: 5, 61, 113. Section titles are from the canon unless otherwise noted.

For historical reasons, volumes 1 (I) through 13 (XIII) are usually identified with Roman numerals on the Girl Genius chronology pages and elsewhere in the wiki. From volume 14 on, the story entered a new "act" and the volume numbers started over, in Arabic numbers, proceeded by a "2-". For example, overall volume 15 is given as volume 2-2 on chronology pages.

	Tarvek looks on as Simon Voltaire destroys Andronicus Valois's weapons. To save her father from being killed outright by the enormous amount of energy he had to channel to accomplish this, Colette manages to channel some of it herself. She channels enough energy, in fact, to surround herself with a glowing aura and to cause her clothing and hair to smolder and start to burn. Tarvek objects that her efforts are hurting her, but Colette brushes off his concerns and states that she is gaining vast amounts of knowledge.
	Tarvek: "The—the Platonic Solid and Archimedes' Lever—your father just melted them! But the power he'd have to—oh. He—he's…drained the city. The whole city. Uh…Colette? How is he doing that? All that power—even he—" Colette: "Yes. The stubborn old fool—this is far too much for him. He knows that. What he just did nearly killed him—and he doesn't even seem to care. The only reason he's alive at all is that I've worked out how to share some of the power. It's taking everything I've got—but I can hold it for him. Keep him safe." Tarvek: "—But it's hurting you!" Colette: "Not too much. Not yet. —And, Tarvek…I'm learning. I'm learning everything."

	Colette suddenly freezes. The Castle explains that the Master has been murdered as part of a plot to seize control of Paris. While the Master's control of the city has been broken, the plan did not account for Colette, and she is merely stunned - if Tarvek patches the Castle into the City's control systems, it will help her consolidate control before the plotters can take over. The Castle's main motivation is to foil the plotters' attempt to frame Agatha for the murder.
	Castle: "Yes, yes. I am currently in a little box in Paris. Truly, wonders never cease."

	Castle: "The young Mistress is reviving. She, and the City, are now aware that the Master is gone—and they… do not like it." Colette: "That, my little vandal, is putting it mildly."

When it does, however, he is not reassured; but filled with a sense of foreboding. This feeling is almost immediately justified when an extremely angry Colette appears, her clothing in tatters and surrounded by a coruscating electrical nimbus, with an ominous warning.
	[Sirens, buzzers, and bells are all clamoring at once.] Beausoleil: "Aaah! Shut up!" [All of the noise stops.] Beausoleil: "…Ah—oh, dear. …Why does this not seem like a good thing?" Colette: "Think of it—as a final moment of sanity."

	Beausoleil greets Colette with surprise and trepidation, but almost immediately adopts an air of bravado and warns her to not overexert herself. An angry Colette's only response is to snap her fingers. This is immediately followed by a series of scenes showing all of Beausoleil's bodies being destroyed in a remarkable (and noisy) variety of ways. Not only that, but each of these "deaths" is experienced by the apparently last Beausoleil, near Colette.
	Beausoleil: "My—my bodies! You destroyed them—and I felt every one…"

She destroys Beausoleil's final body in Paris, blowing it to smithereens, and declares that Paris is her city now and she will defend it.
	Beausoleil: "Heh. But you still haven't got all of me… my true body is no longer in Paris-" Colette: "The Devil may take your true body, you nasty little traitor. You thought you could kill my father and take his city for your masters? What, I wonder, will they do to you, now that you have failed?" Beausoleil: "Oh…ah." Colette: "You are not important enough to waste any more of my time. Get out. Paris is mine—and I will defend it."
