Versions[]
Disney released a version of it (with similar instrumentation and different vocals) as a single, "The Humphrey Hop."
The song was also used in the House of Mouse episode "Humphrey in the House" performed by Corey Burton as Woodlore. A version with altered lyrics was sung by Mater in Cars 3.
Another version with altered lyrics is sung in The Wonderful Autumn of Mickey Mouse.
Lyrics[]
First you stick a rag, put it in the bag, bump-bump,
Then you bend your back, put it in the sack, bump-bump,
That's the way it's done - it's a lot of fun, bump-bump,
Cuttin' capers, puttin' papers in the bag.
Humphrey hop, Humphrey hop
Everybody's doing the Humphrey hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Now you're doing the Humphrey hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Now you're doing the Humphrey hop
Running round, running round, round you go
Up and back, up and back, do si do
Take a chance, you can dance, go and go
As long as you know how to hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Now you're doing the Humphrey hop
Now that you know how to hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Hop hop
Now you're doing the Humphrey hop
Hop hop hop, Humphrey hop!
Hop!
First you find a can
From a rusty van (Bump, bump)
Quicker than a dart
Make it into art (Bump, bump)
That's the way it's done
It's a lotta fun (Bump, bump)
Liftin' my funk
Makin' sculptures outta junk
First we clear the weeds
Dig a hole for seeds (Bump, bump)
Then we use a hoe
Let the water flow (Bump, bump)
That's the way it's done
It's a lot of fun (Bump, bump)
Every Bumpkin's planting pumpkins in the ground
Yes, folks! that's how it's been for years and years
Til' the mouse moved in and switched our gears
He tried to help but he brought bad luck
What did he do?
He moused it up!
He moused it up!
He moused it up!
He moused it up!
He moused it up!
