William Henry "Bill" Thompson, Jr. was an American voice actor and radio personality, whose career stretched from the 1930s until his death. He was best known as the original voice of Droopy in most of the MGM theatrical shorts from 1943 to 1958, as well as the original voice of Touché Turtle in the Hanna-Barbera show Touché Turtle and Dum Dum. He also did various characters on the radio program Fibber McGee and Molly.
For Disney, he voiced numerous characters, such as Scrooge McDuck in Scrooge McDuck and Money, Professor Owl and Bertie Birdbrain in Melody and Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom, the White Rabbit and Dodo in Alice in Wonderland, Mr. Smee (and other pirates) in Peter Pan, Governor Keith in Ben and Me, Jock, Joe, Bull, Dachsie, and the Irish Policeman in Lady and the Tramp, King Hubert in Sleeping Beauty, Flannery and the Zoology Professor in Pigs Is Pigs, the Defense Attorney in The Story of Anyburg, U.S.A., Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore in several "Donald Duck" and "Humphrey the Bear" cartoon shorts, J.J. Fate in How to Have an Accident in the Home and How to Have an Accident at Work, the Common Man and his Common Sense in How to Catch a Cold, an elderly Spike the Bee in Let's Stick Together, Grandpa Duck (Donald's grandfather) in No Hunting, Willoughby in The Walt Disney Christmas Show, and Uncle Waldo in The Aristocats, his last work.
Thompson was also well-known for being the announcer for several Peter Pan Peanut Butter commercials.
He died of septic shock a week after his 58th birthday.
