Angelo

Angelo is a supporting character, and briefly a villain, in the Disney Channel animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. He is an activist who is transformed into a monster named Syphonater after bonding with a symbiote.

Personality[]

Angelo is an all around nice boy from the L.E.S. who truly believes in standing up for a cause. However, he sometimes feels that he is the only one making any attempt to do any change. Because of this, he was easily taken over by the symbiote and influenced to go after Moon Girl whom he believed was the cause of all his problems. After being defeated, he easily showed remorse for his actions and hopes to be a better person down the line.

Physical appearance[]

Angelo is a tall skinny boy of, possible, Italian descent with tan skin and large brownish black hair. He typically wears a grungy green beanie, along with a brown-yellow shirt with white sleeves, a black sleeveless jacket, blue denim jeans and black and white shoes.

As Syphon8r, he appeared as a large, fat greyish-blue being with a large unibrow, beady eyes that had purple shading around them, a large toothy grin and warts. He had a white shirt, black wrist bands for his four arms, black shorts with a grey belt and had four long purple and blue tentacles for legs.

Powers and abilities[]

Angelo has no superpowers of his own, but as Syphonater, he appeared to be powered on negative emotion absorption, in particular Moon Girl's own. The less Moon Girl was mad, the smaller he would shrink and he would lose all of his power and hold. It is unknown if this was only from Moon Girl or if he was capable of absorbing negative energy from other people as well.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur[]

Angelo first appears in "The Borough Bully" where he is seen tending to a stand that supports protection for possums. Flashbacks reveal that he has stood up for other causes such as recycling, community gardening and narwhal protecting, but all of his attempts have failed. His stand is interrupted by a fight between Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur against Devos the Devastator. With his table and "favorite" clipboard destroyed, Angelo became angered and was convinced that Moon Girl was hogging all the glory. This made him susceptible to an alien symbiote that latched onto him and turned him into Syphonater. He began to pester Moon Girl online, taking her anger and absorbing it to become stronger against her. It is only through the diversion of Casey Calderon that Moon Girl learns to take Syphonater's insults in stride, weakening him and causing him to release Angelo. Angelo apologizes for how he acted as he never intended the insults to go too far. Moon Girl makes it up to him by helping with another activism project against bullying.

Angelo makes a brief cameo in "Check Yourself" as one of the students at the assembly to witness the unveiling of LOS-307.

Trivia[]

While Angelo was technically the antagonist in "The Borough Bully", he was influenced by the symbiote and thus was only being influenced to do harm, even though it acted on his inner desires.
Angelo is voiced by Josh Keaton who voiced Spider-Man in The Spectacular Spider-Man.
Based on the fact that the clothes Angelo wore was different from the ones he had as Syphonater, it is possible that the symbiote actually created clothing as well.
Angelo is most likely based on, and named after, Angelo Fortunato. In the comics, Angelo was the son of Don Fortunato who purchased the Venom symbiote at an auction. Being a weakling, Angelo took the symbiote suit and became the new Venom. After one fight with Spider-Man, Angelo ran away and was promptly dropped by the symbiote for his cowardice and fell to his death.
