Candidate Connection

Ron Bassilian participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on May 21, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Ron Bassilian's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

I'm running on three basic issues I thought were bipartisan:
  • Support Police and Military
  • Keep a legal immigration system
  • Promote American values here and abroad[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Homelessness and the inability to police it is becoming major issue in our district. I want to make our streets safe again.

I'm also concerned with global warming. I want to bring an engineer's approach to it.
Tech is a big issue for me too. Government is way behind the private sector and needs to catch up.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Ron Bassilian answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

I follow a lot of people who were ex leftists. David Horowitz, Christopher Hitchens, Dave Rubin, and I'm also a follower of the "Intellectual Dark Web". Would love to have a beer with Gavin McInnes.[3]
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else that best describes your political philosophy?
Lawrence of Arabia. It shows how a nobody with a vision can really upset the status quo.[3]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Honesty and clarity. The ability to see any issue for what it is, and not get swayed by emotion or what can immediately please their base.[3]
Both sitting representatives and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?
I've gotten a couple personal stories about homelessness that are getting frightening. They are walking through what were once peaceful neighborhoods and the residents are afraid to go out at night now. These are working people who never had to deal with this problem before. This is a public responsibility that's been abdicated by our current representatives.[3]
