2014

McGuire's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[7]

Jobs and Economic Development

  • Excerpt: "In the State Senate, I will ask this question first when considering legislation: “Will this law help give every Californian who is willing and able to work hard a path to the middle class?” There is no greater priority than building a thriving local economy."

Strong Public Schools

  • Excerpt: "As a state senator, I will fight hard to reinvest in California’s public education system. Educating our kids and future workforce is more than just fulfilling a promise to California’s youth and families – it’s also one of the smartest investments we can make to build an economy that works for everyone."

Environmental and Coastal Protection

  • Excerpt: "I fiercely oppose fracking and I will fight to protect our rivers, watersheds and coastline. I strongly support policies that address impacts of the drought on our water supply at Lake Mendocino and Lake Sonoma and I will partner with local leaders to ensure that Clearlake thrives."

Responsible State Budgets

  • Excerpt: "In the State Senate, I’ll work to ensure that we move forward as a state together – sharing both the benefits of our growing economy and the sacrifices that are necessary to ensure that the promise of California is available to all of our children, families and seniors. "

Investment in Infrastructure

  • Excerpt: "As a state senator, I’ll continue to fight for investments in our infrastructure, not just on Highway 101, but also on Highways 20, and 175, Highways 199 and 299, and roads and bridges throughout Northern California."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in California

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
