|I am the Vice Mayor of Alhambra, an educator, and equal rights advocate who champions equitable access to higher education and lifting up California working families.
I’ve earned a reputation as a collaborative leader who champions policies that improve quality of life and economic vitality. I led a statewide campaign that secured $97 million to increase college access and affordability for all California students. Most recently, I worked with Senator Leyva and Assemblymember Medina to simplify and expand Cal Grant access to nearly 500,000 college students in California.
I was honored as Congressional Woman of the Year by Congresswoman Chu in 2022 for spearheading the creation of Alhambra’s first ever sustainability plan and securing $670,000 in congressional funds. I was named Active SGV’s Outstanding Elected Official in 2021 for my efforts to increase pedestrian safety and walkability throughout the city.
I recently served as the Political Director for the Prop 1 campaign, which enshrined the right to abortion and contraception in the California Constitution. I currently serve as a Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) commissioner appointed by Supervisor Solis.
- As the first in my family to earn a college degree, I know the doors that college access and career programs can open for working families. I’ve spent my career ensuring students can achieve their college dreams. I led a campaign to secure $97 million to expand college access for California students, and have worked on simplifying the FAFSA application, increasing financial aid awards for college students, and ensuring high school students have access to college prep coursework. As State Senator, I will continue to build on these policies by working to ensure all Californians have the same access to educational opportunities and decrease the extreme financial burdens of obtaining a college degree.
- In 2021, I led a motion to declare Alhambra the first Reproductive Freedom City in the San Gabriel Valley in partnership with Planned Parenthood Advocates of Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley. A year later, I helped lead the Yes on Prop 1 campaign to protect access to abortion and contraception in California’s constitution. My track record of protecting reproductive rights is the reason I am the only candidate in this race endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley. As State Senator, I will continue fighting to protect the right to make personal reproductive health decisions.
- After experiencing the loss of two loved ones who were chronically homeless, I chose to utilize my experience to help others. I was appointed to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority by Supervisor Solis, where I’ve worked to lower the cost of housing, improve rental assistance to families, and expand mental health services to those experiencing homelessness. As State Senator, I’ll work with public sector workers on the frontlines of the homelessness crisis, increase funding to build affordable housing, expand mental health, drug treatment, and social services to help our unhoused neighbors create a foundation to succeed. I’ll work to expand first-time homebuyer programs, and work to make federal funds go further.
As the daughter of a union electrician and the granddaughter of an AFL-CIO organizer, I know that union jobs can help rebuild the middle class. I’ve worked with labor unions and local businesses to bring hundreds of middle-class jobs to my community, and I’ll continue to fight to protect workers, expand access to good-paying jobs, and ensure that small business owners receive the protection they deserve.
I understand the significant role small businesses play our local economy and the character and identity they help bring to our communities. I’ve worked with small business leaders and restaurant owners to save them money by capping the fees that third-party delivery services charge.
Hard-Working, Honest, Kind, Compassionate and Open-Minded.
I would like to improve the lives of others, especially those who have been underserved by government.
I am proud to be the only candidate who has earned the endorsement of the California Democratic Party, teachers, nurses, firefighters, and Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley. Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
