Rollan A. Roberts participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on March 26, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Rollan A. Roberts's responses follow below.[3]
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
“ | 1) Longterm resolution of the current crisis in education 2) Endorsing a multi-faceted approach to the opioid crisis |
” |
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?
“ | I'm passionate about improving the life and daily living conditions of all West Virginians. The struggles of the residents of WV are real, and it's embarrassing to watch WV leaders publicly humiliate our state on the national stage year after year.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[5]
|
” |
Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Rollan A. Roberts answered the following:
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
“ | I'm looking for spiritual wisdom from my Lord to guide me first and foremost. I'm not impressed with the actions or leadership of any of our state leaders. I believe there are some in both chambers who are sincerely trying to help WV but have had only limited success.[5] | ” |
“ | The Bible[5] | ” |
“ | Honesty, Integrity, Passion, and Communication skills are all important.[5] | ” |
“ | Proven Leadership from over 42 years as a servant-leader.[5] | ” |
“ | Diligence and discernment are to be exercised continually to investigate all of the various topics that will come up in bills.[5] | ” |
“ | I would like to leave a legacy that I really cared for WV and was used of God to help people.[5] | ” |
“ | The Bible. It gave me purpose in life as a teenager and guidance throughout adulthood.[5] | ” |
“ | WV has a great process for redistricting every 10 years.[5] | ” |
Roberts submitted the following campaign themes through Ballotpedia’s biographical information submission form:
“ |
My goal is to use my proven leadership skill set to advance conservative, common sense, WV progress-oriented, vision, and savvy to the senate chamber with honesty and integrity. For 30 years in Beaver, I've steadily and successfully worked in our church and school ministry while trying to keep people on the positive track hoping that our legislative leaders would improve life. Sensing the same feelings of frustration that everyone seems to have and realizing that God wanted me to make myself available to become part of the solution process, I filed for office. WV is at a crucial point in its history. Coal has made a bit of a comeback, and we have a window of time to develop new economic ventures while addressing problems that plague our state. I believe the opioid crisis can be stemmed with a multi-faceted approach. The Coalfields Expressway and other infrastructure projects desperately need to be completed. The crisis in our education system and PEIA healthcare need to be fashioned for greater success. My proven leadership success can be very influential in addressing these and all of the other pressing issues facing our state. [5] |

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
