Hello! My name is Jay Taylor and I’m running for the Republican nomination for the West Virginia State Senate in the 14th District. I’ve been involved in politics for around 30 years. From working on various campaigns to get conservatives elected up and down the ticket, to being the Chairman of my county executive committee where we went from over 1,000 in the minority to nearly 1,000 in the majority in party registration. I’ve been on the State Executive Committee for the 14th District for a number of terms and have helped develop our Party Platform. I’m the Legislative Liaison for the Convention of States Project in West Virginia which has given me a close working relationship with many of our legislators from across the state while showing me the inner workings of the Capitol. I’m a Conservative, Pro-Life, 2nd Amendment, Right sized Government, Republican. We need to get government out of the way of businesses so that we can thrive in these new times. Good quality infostructure should be governments main focus. Not over burdensome regulations that drive off opportunities.

  • Being conservative is my core beliefs that will direct my votes. ProLife, Pro 2nd Amendment, Freedom, Lower Taxes, Right size government, cut red tape are just some of what being conservative means to me. We need to get government doing what it is supposed to be doing well, instead of trying to do everything badly.
  • Infrastructure – One of the most important things government is required to do, yet do not seem to do it well. Have we gone for quantity over quality with cheap contracts that constantly have to be redone? Our roads need better. Broadband fits in here and we need to make sure we’re still on top of ever changing technologies by removing red tape for development. Holding companies accountable for past broken promises is a must.
  • Education – Overtime pay for teachers will fix so many issues. It is time to get this done. Allowing parents choice will always be my vote and helping homeschoolers instead of hindering them should be our goal. Our bloated top heavy state Department of Education needs cut, and money spent locally.

Conservative, Pro-Life, 2nd Amendment, Right sized Government

By population in House and county in Senate.

Yes. Need 18 votes to pass anything in the Senate.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in West Virginia

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
