Mike Woelfel (Democratic Party) is a member of the West Virginia State Senate, representing District 5. He assumed office on January 14, 2015. His current term ends on December 1, 2026.

Woelfel (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the West Virginia State Senate to represent District 5. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Woelfel was elected state Senate minority leader on December 6, 2022.[1]

Biography

Woelfel earned his B.A. in history from Marshall University in 1974 and his J.D. from West Virginia University in 1978. He is an attorney in Huntington.[2]

Elections for the West Virginia State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 13, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was January 25, 2014. Robert Alexander was defeated by Mike Woelfel in the Democratic primary, while Vicki Dunn-Marshall was unopposed in the Republican primary. Woelfel defeated Dunn-Marshall and Roy L. Ramey (I) in the general election.[3][4][5]

Woelfel and his wife, Julia, have two sons. He is a member of West Virginia State Bar and St. Joseph Catholic Church.[2][6]
