Kathy Sheran (b. May 18, 1947) is a former Democratic member of the Minnesota State Senate, representing District 19 from 2007 to 2017. Sheran previously served as a majority whip.

Sheran did not seek re-election to the Minnesota State Senate in 2016.[1]

Biography

Sheran earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from the College of St. Teresa and her master's degree from Minnesota State University. Her professional experience includes working as a registered nurse and a part-time professor at Minnesota State University.

Elections for the Minnesota State Senate took place in 2016. The primary election took place on August 9, 2016, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016. The candidate filing deadline was May 31, 2016. Incumbent Kathy Sheran (D) did not seek re-election.

Nick Frentz defeated Willa Dailey and Shane Wernsing in the Minnesota State Senate District 19 general election.[2][3]

Sheran won election in the 19th District in 2012 after redistricting. She had no opposition in the August 14 primary, and was unopposed in the general election on November 6, 2012.[6][7]

2010

Sheran won re-election to the 23rd District seat in 2010. She had no primary opposition. Peter Trocke ran for the seat on the Republican ticket. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.

Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. Taxpayers League of Minnesota

The Taxpayers League of Minnesota, a Minnesota-based taxpayer advocacy organization, releases a legislative scorecard for the Minnesota House of Representatives and Minnesota State Senate once a year. The scorecard gives each legislator a score based on how they voted in the prior legislative term on tax issues and “their efforts to balance the state budget without a tax increase.” The organization also compiles a legislator’s individual "Lifetime Score."[9]
