Draheim's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Efficient Government

  • Rich believes government is too big and tries to do too many things, often with poor results. That’s why he’ll lead legislative efforts to undertake a top-to-bottom audit of state government. Programs that deliver measurable results will be preserved, and enhanced if necessary. Those that cannot show results will be ended and receive no future funding. Rich will work with his counterparts on both sides of the aisle to bring an accountable, new direction to our State.

Job Creation and Growth of Main Street Economies

As a small business owner, Rich will work for stronger main street economies through:

  • Encouraging investment in small business start-ups
  • Expanding research and development tax credits
  • Eliminating job-killing regulations and government red tape
  • Reducing and reforming state taxes
  • Increasing health insurance flexibility for small businesses

Put Kids, Parents and Teachers First in Education

As the parent of two children in public school, Rich understands the importance of quality education. Rich will work to:

  • Support equitable, reliable funding for schools in south central Minnesota
  • Reduce unnecessary state-imposed K-12 mandates on school districts
  • Keep control of our schools in the hands of parents, teachers and local school boards – not bureaucrats from the Twin Cities

Agriculture

  • Rich worked for 19 years in the agriculture industry and understands how important agriculture is to our state’s economy. Rich will champion initiatives to increase international trade of our farm commodities, and fight efforts to impose one-size-fits-all regulations on family farms. Rich knows farmers are the best stewards of the land and will work to roll back unworkable buffer strip mandates that hurt farm profitability.

Tax Reform

  • When state government is bursting at the seams with a near $2 billion surplus – caused by a $2 billion tax increase — Rich believes it’s time for a responsible tax cut for Minnesota families and small business owners. Rich supports efforts to reform taxes to spur investment and savings. Rich understands Minnesota’s quality of life requires investments in education, health care and the environment, but over-taxation or poorly designed tax policy serves to hinder job growth and economic expansion.[8]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Minnesota

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
