|I am a public school teacher, paramedic, lawyer, member of my local fire department, military wife and mother of two amazing boys. I understand the dedication and sacrifice that comes with public service. I am also not afraid to stand up for what is right – even if it comes at personal cost. I believe politicians should seek to improve the lives of their constituents and their state, and I pledge to do exactly that. After all, helping people is what I do.
- My top priority is to fight for an economy that works for Minnesotans. As both a small business owner and a union member myself, I know the importance of making sure our economy works at every level – for the workers we depend on, the employers driving innovation and expansion, and the customers who count on our products and services. I’ll focus on containing the rising cost of goods and services, and will support job training and retention programs to create the skilled workforce that is essential to economic recovery and expansion.
- I am running to ensure that SD 41 has safe neighborhoods and thriving communities. As a paramedic, I work on the front lines of public safety and see first-hand the impact crime has on individuals, families and communities. While serving on the City Council of Bayport, I always advocated strongly for community policing because I support and value the work of our dedicated law enforcement officers. As your state senator I will work to reduce crime now and prevent crime in the future. I’ll fight to make sure our police and local law enforcement officers have the funding they need to do their jobs.
- I will always fight to protect women's right to choose. Government has no place in private conversations between patients and doctors. And the last thing we need is a government that mandates our private decisions about when or if to start a family. I’ll work to keep moving Minnesota forward, and that includes protecting, defending and enshrining our reproductive rights and freedoms. Forward doesn’t just mean reproductive choice– it means addressing disparate outcomes in infant and maternal health. And it means reducing the devastating cost of healthcare.
My wide ranging career and life experience have developed passion and expertise in a number of policy areas. As a paramedic, I serve on the frontlines of public safety and healthcare. I work as a partner to police officers, firefighters, and nurses during every shift, and I see all that they do to keep our communities safe and healthy. I will always fight to ensure local law enforcement has the resources they need, and to lower the cost of healthcare.
As a classroom teacher and a mother, I know the challenges that our schools and our kids face. We have a lack of mental health supports and class sizes exceeding 35, even 40 students in too many places around Minnesota.
Finally, I am so proud that my spouse has served in the United States Navy for nearly 30 years. As a military wife and a leader in the Washington County Yellow Ribbon Network, I've advocated for veterans and their families. I want to bring that work to the Minnesota Senate, and will work to make sure every veteran has safe and accessible housing, healthcare, and the support of their community.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
