中国・四川省の地震を引き起こした断層について、長さ約２５０キロにわたる断層が２段階にわけて動いたとする分析結果を筑波大の八木勇治准教授らが１３日まとめた。 大きな断層のずれが相次いだことで、広い範囲に記録的な揺れを引き起こしたとみられている。 今回の地震は、四川省を北東―南西方向に走る断層帯（竜門山断層）の一部が動いて起きたとみられている。八木准教授の分析では、まず長さ約１００キロ、幅約３０キロの断層が最大で約７メートルずれ、続いて、その北東側で長さ約１５０キロ、幅約３０キロの断層が４メートルずれた。阪神大震災を起こした断層は長さ約４０キロで、今回はその６倍強になる。 地震開始から約５０秒かけて最初の断層が動き、１０秒後に２番目の断層が約６０秒かけて動き、揺れは約２分間続いた可能性がある。 地表近くで最も大きくずれたため、被害の拡大につながった可能性があるという。震源近くでは地表に約７メー
