london bridge incident first attenders I started my career at Guy’s Hospital, and at lunchtimes walked around Borough High Street, and the market next to Southwark Cathedral, scene of last night’s attack. I used to live down the road. At that time it was a working class district, and now it is an upmarket place, a cool place for evening drinks.

The BBC headline was properly restrained: “three suspects shot dead by Police after van and knife attack at London Bridge and Borough Market killed 6 people and injured at least 48.” The Daily Mail was less restrained and more informative: “three Jihadis are shot dead by police after killing six and hurting 48: Gang yell ‘This is for Allah’ after mowing down crowd on London Bridge then going on stabbing frenzy in bars. The men, described as being ‘of Mediterranean origin’, drove the white van at 50mph across the bridge.” However, later in their story the BBC quotes an eyewitness who said “They were running up shouting, ‘This is for Allah.’ They stabbed this girl maybe 10 times, 15 times.” The BBC also showed a picture of one of the suspects lying on the ground. In the end, the appearance and motivations of the perpetrators were made evident by bystander testimony.

Now we are the stage of ritual upon ritual, of political statements of condolence, of nostrums, of conclusions drawn and conclusions avoided. Campaigning for the general election due on 8 June has been suspended till evening, and some had even suggested postponing the election. I tweeted:

When a democracy is attacked by a theocracy the best response is to continue campaigning for a democratic election.

Emotion is leading me to want people to understand the horror, not airbrush it away. Hard to make any further comment just at the moment.

  1. Here is what the result ought to be of the continued atrocities by Muslim murderers, but probably won’t be.

THE WRATH OF THE AWAKENED SAXON
    by Rudyard Kipling

It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late,
With long arrears to make good,
When the Saxon began to hate.

    They were not easily moved,
They were icy — willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the Saxon began to hate.

Their voices were even and low.
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not preached to the crowd.
It was not taught by the state.
    No man spoke it aloud
When the Saxon began to hate.

    It was not suddently bred.
    It will not swiftly abate.
    Through the chilled years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the Saxon began to hate.
    (Emphasis added.)

The daughter of a friend of mine was outside the twin towers when the second aircraft struck. She ran for her life.

My daughter was to have been in the area of Saturday evening’s attack, to meet a friend and have drinks and dinner. Happily there was a change of plan and she was safe with us.

I grew up in the ultra safe era of the Cold War. Irony of ironies.

Well James, did you get equally horrified when the killings were done by these people? Its not a crime if “my sect” carries it out? Does racism justify mass murder? Do you really believe the “democracy” propaganda?

The Manchester Bombing as Blowback: The Latest Evidence
    http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/47179.htm
The evidence suggests that the barbaric Manchester bombing, which killed 22 innocent people on May 22nd, is a case of blowback on British citizens arising at least partly from the overt and covert actions of British governments. The British state therefore has a serious case to answer. We focus primarily here on UK policies towards Libya but also touch on some of those related to Iraq and Syria…..
The evidence points to the LIFG being seen by the UK as a proxy militia to promote its foreign policy objectives. Whitehall also saw Qatar as a proxy to provide boots on the ground in Libya in 2011, even as it empowered hardline Islamist groups. Both David Cameron, then Prime Minister, and Theresa May – who was Home Secretary in 2011 when Libyan radicals were encouraged to fight Qadafi – clearly have serious questions to answer. We believe an independent public enquiry is urgently needed. The evidence suggests that British actions in three different theatres – Libya, Iraq and Syria – cannot be viewed in isolation: …..

The UK’s century-long war against Yemen
    http://www.middleeasteye.net/columns/britains-century-long-war-yemen-809826615
Britain is backing a Saudi invasion of Yemen that has cost thousands of innocent lives. It is providing advanced weaponry to the Saudis, training their military and has soldiers embedded with them, helping with targeting of air strikes. This is true of today. But it also describes exactly what was happening during the 1960s, in a shameful episode which Britain has, like so much of its colonial past, effectively whitewashed out of history. ….

In his book Unpeople, historian Mark Curtis pieces together Britain’s “dirty war” in Yemen between 1962 and 1969, using declassified files which – despite their public availability and the incendiary nature of their revelations – have only ever been examined by one other British historian. British involvement spanned both Conservative and Labour governments, and implicated leading members of the British government in war crimes. ….

    The third war

So the current British-Saudi war against Yemen is in fact the third in a century. But why is Britain so seemingly determined to see the country dismembered and its development sabotaged? Strange as it may seem, the answer is that Britain is scared of Yemen, the sole country on the Arab peninsula with the potential power to challenge the colonial stitch-up reached between London and the Gulf monarchies it placed in power in the 19th century, and who continue to rule to this day…..

    @Diversity Heretic

Yes, “when the Saxon began to hate”. Thankfully, you realize you lack the individual will to carry out that plan in a violent manner, realizing that any efforts at lawbreaking will result in stiff consequences. Your contribution to this “hate” is airing your grievances on several blogs, which is therapeutic for you.
