Audio Files, now available on SoundCloud

I’ve been quite pleased with the positive response to the audio versions of my articles which I produced and made freely available on this website, now totaling more than 100 in number, and including multipart versions of a half dozen of the longest ones. This collection represents the spoken form of more than 500,000 words of text, and in less than two weeks, the audio files seem to have been clicked more than 17,000 times, demonstrating that many people do indeed prefer listening to reading. It’s also possible that a few of those visitors have begun redistributing a some of them across other websites and discussion forums, which is another intended use.

Aside from being available as links or playable podcasts at the top of each associated article, a complete listing is also provided in the standard Sidebar, along with a few of my recent interviews:

https://www.unz.com/page/audio-files-podcasts/

I’ve now also established a SoundCloud page as an additional distribution channel, making all of them available in that system as well, grouped by category, while the longest, multipart podcasts also shown separately. These latter also tend to be the most significant and controversial, and they are effectively highlighted by that system:

Since SoundCloud suggests the inclusion of a user-image, I made the somewhat aggrandizing decision to provide my rather flattering July 1999 New Republic cover, which represented the absolute media peak of my political career and was naturally soon followed by the crushing defeat of my 2000 Campaign Finance Reform initiative.

Given the exceptionally controversial nature of many of my articles, especially those in the American Pravda series, I regard my past mainstream credibility as a crucial asset, and TNR, which was then at the absolute height of its national influence, surely helps to provide it.

In addition, I’m also establishing a YouTube channel, which will soon make these audio files available there as well.

Downloadable EBooks in ePub and Mobi/Kindle formats

Meanwhile, I’ve now made available some fifteen freely downloadable eBooks, all in both the ePub and Mobi/Kindle formats. These include two large collections, each running over 300,000 words, and more than a dozen smaller eBooks, mostly containing one of my longer and more significant articles. All of them, together with a complete listing of the contents, are permanently available in the standard Sidebar:

https://www.unz.com/page/downloadable-ebooks/

Over the last few weeks, they’ve already been downloaded nearly 5,000 times, and just as with the audio files, please feel free to redistribute them across other websites and discussion forums.

  1. Noticed you haven’t posted an article lately Unz… You need to do one on how great it is for the Open Border Society now that it has its President in place. Even the President of Mexico has chastised
Dopey Joe for encouraging illegal immigration and enriching cartels…

Boy are we gong to have a lot of natural conservatives here in the next four years.

And Unz.. you know your great study on how third world cholo immigration from Central America doesn’t result in more crime. Bull shit. I live in Virginia and our Central American Immigration is not a matter of Mexicans living in California for at least a couple of generations. Our Police Arrest records are now hispanic… and we have tons of hispanic Sex Offenders registered all over our state.

The Democrat Majority Voting Block is arriving daily…

Here’s something even funnier. That TNR article (which I’ve never read) was by the late Prof. Tony Judt, a prominent Jewish historian at New York University. But just a few years after it appeared, he suddenly and somewhat mysteriously became known as an extremely fierce critic of Israel and organized Jewry, to such an extent that the ADL exerted enormous pressure to have him purged from a scheduled speaking engagement at the Polish Consulate, an incident that got into all the newspapers.

I’ve always wondered whether his apparent ideological about-face might have been caused by some sort of “surprising” discovery…

  4. In Praise of The Departed Tony Judt

    Steve Sailer wrote in 2018:

Why do so many Jewish intellectuals consider it a wise strategy to ignore their people’s enemies and libel their people’s friends?

    I replied in 2018:

Jewish intellectuals are frigging meshuggana. They are wacko nutcakes.

Stop waiting for a Jew intellectual to behave and act like a Welsh, Scottish or English intellectual. The Jew intellectuals are crazy in their own way. It’s genetic. It’s in their DNA.

    Tony Judt was somewhat reasonable.

Stop waiting for the school achievement test gap between Blacks and Whites to close.

Stop waiting for the school achievement test gap between Blacks/Mestizos/Amerindians and Europeans/Jews/Asians to narrow.

It’s genetic. It’s in the DNA.

I say in reply to our gracious host, Ron Unz:

People might like to cook or clean or do other activities and the audio versions of your writing is super convenient for them.

I loved your Reagan Wasserman Illinois connection bit. People talk about Truman and that Pendergast political machine, so why can’t people also talk about Reagan and his connections to certain other organized machines from the middle of the nation and California and other places?

If – if – you want people to consume (listen to) your audio files, you must have an RSS feed, of the mp3s. Yes, yes, you already have one of the text.

RSS feed please – then I and thousands of others can add these audios to our podcast app/system/thing.

Well, I’ll see about doing that. But remember, I just went through and produced Audio versions of my own old articles, so the whole thing is more of a comprehensive audio archive.

I’m not a blogger, with a couple of posts on this or that every day. So far this year, I’ve only published two new articles, which is less than one per month. So an RSS Audio feed would only provide a new mp3 every month or two. Is it really worth having a special RSS Feed for something so intermittent?

Anyway, there’s already an RSS Feed for my new articles, and since those are the only ones for which I’m producing Audio files, doesn’t that already serve the same purpose?

    Yes.

It’s the standard way (there are proprietary variations) that collections of mp3s get into podcast players. Podcast apps expect to read an RSS file. Then the user selects which podcasts to listen to.

EDIT: Sorry, I remembered after I had written my note that soundclound automatically makes RSS feeds (that they don’t expose, but are perfectly able to be used)

    Your (soundcloud) RSS feed is:
    https://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:951624109/sounds.rss

The great utility https://getrssfeed.com exposes Apple Podcast / Google Podcast / SoundCloud RSS feeds, so that nearly the universal RSS feeds can be used, rather than proprietary variations.

Unfortunately, your RSS feed is empty (this can be opened in a browser, it’s a simple text file)
    https://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:951624109/sounds.rss

Here’s the Guns and Butter RSS feed (also from soundcloud). This, too, can be opened in a browser (it’s a simple text file):
    https://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:121792936/sounds.rss

As you can see, it’s full with links to each mp3 and a note.

I don’t know. Really I was just asking for an RSS feed. Someone who knows more about this stuff than I do might be able to sort this out.

I’ve never used RSS Feeds for podcasts, but I found a template on the Internet, and tried to duplicate the appropriate layout for the structure. Here’s the link:

    https://www.unz.com/xfeed/rss/runz/audio/

It seems to come up fine in a regular RSS Feed reader for HTML, but let me know if the mp3s also come up in your podcast-oriented system. If not, tell me what software podcast client you’re using so I can try to get the structure fixed at my end.
