I have personally seen these corrupt Ukraine characters (politicians and private sector oligarchs) in action, literally spending tens-of-thousands of U.S. taxpayer funds (in cash) at the Port of Montenegro while I was tracking them in 2023 and 2024. They were staying in massive suites at the Regent Hotel; so please, don’t try to sell me on the honorable Ukraine politician schtick.

Will this be enough to persuade the European troika to stop bankrolling Kiev aggression? At some point the lack of popular support has to kick in.

Yes, releasing everything has always been a good answer to some problems. I assume this was a major reason for the normalization of homosexuality and other similar issues. Why is a hyper-violent, post-apocalyptic film in a series that was the starring vehicle of young Mel Gibson and which the 2015 film had something like an automotive kóryos so feminist?

Why does Furiosa lead a koryos band? How did she come from a post apocalyptic matriachy that seemed to have no men? But butt-kicking grannies?

I really can’t fathom what went into writing the plot. Did Miller read the room and just know he had to make it that way to get financing, or did someone at the studio tell him? It is a really strange film politically, if some sort of outsider to the West saw it, without knowing much about society.

Since it is a stunt-driven film, I found some of the very jarring, like the “ghosts” that haunt Max.

Woke is probably imported from the US. I recall reading something about this back in the 2000s, when there were various US funded schemes specifically for supporting blacks and it was considered peculiar in a Brazilian context.

There is more of the previous centuries’ style of micro-enterprise model in terms of the retail and services. So, visiting the streets, becomes a more diverse experience, as there many family businesses selling different local traditions, which only exist in the particular region.

One of the biggest potential advantages that enclaves could offer on paper IMO would be some kind of recognition of ethnicity to people who actually live under the system of liberal multiculturalism, which seems to want to mix all people, as well as maximize rents and drive down wages.

For example, recognized ethnic neighborhoods, that might have their own elementary schools and curriculum. Their own holidays, customs, or parades. This kind of differentiation might even become an asset in other ways, like business ties, tourism or film potential. They might be a good place for young people to start families.

I think commensalism between delineated and specified groups would be easier to achieve than under some system where all people globally are treated as interchangeable. IMO it is easier to have good relationships, when they are fewer, and can be better understood. But, of course, this sensible idea is rather taboo.

Right now, an old usb c phone makes for a pretty robust flashlight, provided you don’t need anything powerfully bright, and the battery isn’t too degraded. It seems to basically last forever, whereas purpose-built rechargeable flashlights seem to have a really limited shelf-life, due to condensation and poor design – they often seem designed not to be taken appart, so contacts can’t be cleaned.

Yes, they will need to reset the financial system, unless they can figure out a way to somehow swim out of this bubble. Typically a large war would destroy everything and then one could restart. The circumstances in Venezuela and Ukraine are very different and USA meddling is probably the major common element. I meant that the West now seems to be hell bent on destroying Ukraine since they probably cannot have it for themselves; call it a self-centered form of tough love. I was suggesting Washington might follow a similar destructive policy in Venezuela, though for slightly different reasons. Ukraine was able to protect and maintain their power grid with the help of Europeans. As a result of this, parts of their old power grid were either modernized or completely rebuilt and are now in a much better state than before. We were sending them generators as well. But of course the Russian bombing is relentless. This is a war crime.

Ukrainians are using several types of different weapons to break through the air defenses, using combined weapons, they may send long or middle range missiles, then follow with a swarm of drones, or they may use two different types of drones, most of which get shot down but a few get through. In Moscow city, there are several layers of air defense, it can be broken through but it takes several layers of weapons. Madyar’s team have also figured out how to fly drones more efficiently.

US being eager to punish Venezuela for supporting Palestine? I’m not so sure about that… Well, large parts of the world, including European countries, now support Palestine. In one scenario drones are positioned close enough to jam the air defense radars. If timed properly a missile or armed drone can sneak in and destroy the site because of the jamming. The air defense system has to waste missiles on drones to stop this. Drones cost far less than missiles or air defense systems so it is much easier to saturate the defenses and overcome them with a combination of many cheap drones and a few expensive attack missiles than with attack missiles alone.

Having a layered defense with many small less costly missiles and cannons (Pantsir/Gepard) to take out drones combined with a higher performance system with larger anti-missile missiles (S-300/Patriot) works better. However, both sides in the Ukraine conflict have such arrangements which have been destroyed on both sides. There are lots of ways to work around hybrid drone and missile attacks but it is a new baseline that most systems can be defeated by the use of a lot of drones. Communication with the drones is a possible weak link. The Russians brought out fiber optics and the Ukie drones probably use US satellites. Both sides can also daisy chain the communications. Full autonomous AI guided drones will soon no longer require communications and will be very dangerous (probably already in use).

A power grid has too many important nodes to fully protect it. A widespread attack with a few thousand dinky FPV drones could bring the Ukie grid to its knees for weeks. Add in several hundred missiles and it could be down for years. Even if one has an infinite supply of new generators these require fuel which comes by pipeline, rail or barge all of which are as vulnerable as the power grid.

The air defense system has to waste missiles on drones to stop this.

They are working on certain systems in Ukraine that are light anti-drone systems. We are also working on them in the Baltics. This is a high priority for protecting the airports. Of course, not all these smaller systems work against Shahed drones right now. So this gap will have to be closed somehow.

The Ukrainians use these things they call rebs (radio electronic warfare devices that are used to interfere with navigation) – I suppose these are the drone jammers? There is something called Kasper S2 that they’re using.

Yes, I remember that mythical figure very well. Really, I think you are getting too much in the weeds of things. I am not really directly concerned with what the age of consent in Japan is or how much sex they are having. You can doubt it but there are a number of companies (VW, Orange, pharma, energy…) that invested in Spain in the last few years. Some moved production from Central-Eastern Europe. This is so interesting. I know a fellow who is now retired and who had a career as a local Rush Limbaugh type on local radio starting in the ‘90s and ending in the 2010s. He got into the Young Republican world at an early age. Met other future R luminaries through that operation. I was well into my 20s when I met him and I was amazed how fully developed his political worldview was at a seeming young age. Like Fuentes he had an answer to every question. Guy Gavriel Kay is considered a pretty famous fantasy writer. The only novel of his I tried, I did not enjoy. I found the world kind of shallow, and it was too maudlin. Zelazney’s Chronicles of Amber is much better.

Of Martin, have only read the A Song of Fire and Ice series, there are certain things I like about it, how it takes inspiration from history and myth, how it involves feudalism and families and a world with history. But on other levels, I find it kind of sour. He is the king of too long, and he will never finish it. He is NOT the American Tolkien. A lot of his prose is horrible in the extreme – the editors should have cut it with a machete.

My point was that – with all these younger women out there, who are now I’d say independent in many ways, you won’t be able to dictate what they like to watch, it doesn’t mean they want to see tranny stuff or overweight actresses or other woke stuff, but they will not like subordinate female characters.

Impregnation in and of itself is not a bad theme, but rapey details would probably ruin sublime stories. I had a close friend who was a huge Tolkien fanatic, and he had adopted a nom de guerre that was a reference to some elf having been impregnated by some orc – or vice versa. Or maybe a Nazgul (certainly, a Nazgul is a much more noble creature than an orc). The result was a dark elf of some sort. I’m guessing the point must’ve been that being an elf was not “bad” enough.
