will need and tasks you will need to do before working on this episode.
At the end of this Learning Episode, I must be able to revisit the
concept of learning environment in the context of the current teaching and
learning situation.
Overview of the Learning Environment
A learning environment, traditionally called the classroom, is a space in
a school that supports student learning. It is a self-contained area where
teacher teaches, and children learn. In the classroom are chairs or tables for
students and a front table for the teacher. This a traditional face-to-face
classroom. Most often the students should face the teacher as the chairs are
arranged that way. But as teaching deliveries changed to enhance learning,
modification in the seating arrangement evolved and more opportunity for
the learners to move about for cooperative learning was addressed.
A conducive learning environment should have the following characteristics:
Flexibility - There is opportunity to have small groups, movable walls.
Openness - Learning corners/areas which could be shared.
Access to resources Audio-Visual materials are ready and open for use.
Physical classroom -Space is clean and safe.
Psychological atmosphere it is friendly and accommodating.
The classroom climate nurtures the intellectual, physical, social and emotional
development of the students. Here are some specific strategies for developing
the optimal classroom climate. You may consider these.
1. Learning environment addresses both physical and psychological needs of the
student for security and order, love and belonging, personal power and
competence, freedom and fun.
2. Create a sense of order. For example, teacher should teach students how to
enter the classroom and become immediately engaged in the activity;
distribute and collect materials;
find out about missed assignments due to absence and how to make up for
them,
get the teacher's attention without disrupting the class and
arrange desks, tables quickly and quietly for various purposes.
3. Greet learners as they enter your face-to-face or on-line classroom.
4. In a healthy and conducive learning environment, everybody belongs and
knows each other.
5. Encourage class building activities like games and team activities.
6. In a conducive learning environment, success whether small or big is
recognized and celebrated.
Both approaches, either the traditional face-to-face or online, lead to positive
results but in different ways, so usually in practice both approaches are
combined.

What will you do to assist your mentor in setting up a conducive
learning environment in the following conditions:
1. Bulletin Board
I will help my mentor by offering the appropriate
recommendations and pertinent ideas on various subjects,
extending her innovations that are closely connected to the 21st
century, and otherwise helping her create a suitable learning
atmosphere. In order to establish a conducive learning atmosphere,
I will also assist my mentor by performing innovative research and
producing posters. According to my interpretation of the bulletin
board display, it might be another teacher who updates recent
lessons, assists students in comprehending new information,
reinforces new vocabulary and ideas, and provides several
opportunities for participation on the part of the students.
2. Small Group Discussion
I will ask my mentor's permission for me to take the lead for
students to be settled and ready as my mentor starts the small
group discussion, and while the discussion is ongoing, I promise
that I will assist her in whatever she wants me to do. I will take the
initiative to gather all the required materials and associated
themes for the complementation of the said activity. Additionally, I
will provide them with sufficient time and space so they can think
things through and participate in discussions in a comfortable
manner. I believe, by becoming more productive, it will help
students utilize their time more effectively.
3. Checking class attendance in a virtual classroom
(i.e., Google meet or zoom)
I will create an attendance link utilizing Google Forms and will
send it to the virtual classroom for the students to easily fill out in
order to help my mentor keep track of the students' attendance.
This eliminates the need for my mentor, who generally calls out
each student's name just like what she usually does in a face-to-
face setting. Time might also be used more efficiently because my
mentor can begin her virtual class right away.
Learning Environment 1:
What have you noticed of the display in the class bulletin board? What
message or theme does it convey? Regrettably, the classrooms no longer
have a display like the class bulletin board because of the policy
written in DepEd Order No. 21, Series of 2023 which states that schools
“shall ensure school grounds, classrooms and all its walls, and other
school facilities are clean and free from unnecessary artwork,
decorations, tarpaulin, and posters at all times.”
What makes it attractive to the learners?
(Please refer to my answer to question no. 1).
Does it help in the learning process?
(Please refer to my answer to question no. 1).
How? (Please refer to my answer to question no. 1).
Learning Environment 2:
If the teacher is using a distance delivery of learning through the
modules, where is most likely the learning space of the students? When I
asked my students about their experiences with distance learning,
they said that because they were not permitted to leave the house to
attend class, they completed their modules at home and conducted
some research using their mobiles devices.
Can you describe? Because of the recent pandemic crisis, modular
learning is one of the solutions available to be used to ensure that the
students’ learning continues. This is done by transforming the
students’ homes into new learning environments with their parents’
acting as a temporary teacher, allowing them to ask questions as
well as provide answers.
How can you as a teacher help to make such environment conducive for
learning? The best strategy to adopt as a teacher would be to support
the learners by holding regular online meetings to update them and
respond to their inquiries.
The examples above, describe two contrasting situations. The first shows that
the learners are in the same room or space while in the second, the learners may
be in different learning spaces like homes, study hubs or in extreme cases parks
or under the trees.
As a teacher, in which of the two situations would you prefer to manage for
learning? Choose between Learning Environment 1 or Learning Environment 2.
Explain your choice: Why?
Among the two learning environments, as a teacher who wants direct
interaction from the learners, I would prefer to choose the first
learning environment, which describes traditional learning, also
known as face-to-face learning. I believe that in this environment, I
can instruct my students directly, easily track their performance and
development, and help them with any difficulties they may be facing.
In addition, without worrying about the connectivity or the device to
be used, students in this kind of learning setting could simply
approach the teacher in real-time in whatever concerns and
confusions they may have regarding the subject matter.
Based on my noticing and analysis, I realized that
a. For a teacher to be effective, flexibility is essential.
b. The finest kind of education for students may be in-person instruction.
c. The duty of the teacher is to create a conducive environment for learning.

What probable problem may result from the two situations of the
learning environment?
• I think the problem that may probably arise from the given two learning
environments (online and face-to-face learning) could be the effectiveness of
the teaching method and the appropriateness of the instructional tools used
by the teachers. I can also consider the students’ way of learning as a
common problem in both mentioned learning environments since students
cannot adapt and grasp what is needed to be learned if they are not driven to
learn and are not willing to participate during the teaching-learning process.
What solutions can I think of to solve the problem?
• Since every learner is unique and has a distinct learning style, the solution
to these issues is to develop an interactive learning activity that can
stimulate students’ participation and the teachers’ interesting way of
delivering the lesson that could catch students’ attention and make them
listen well to the discussion. Reinforcement of class-based rewards might also
drive the students’ motivation to become an active agent in the class. As a
result, they would be more engaged and likely to remember the lesson's
central themes.
How should I do it?
• As a teacher, I will primarily strive to learn more about of my student's
preferred learning approach while at the same time reinforcing a student-
centered style of teaching. With the ideas I may gather, I would be able to
design an interactive activity that would enable students to learn efficiently
while also understanding and guaranteeing that various essential aspects of
the lesson must be learned by the students in the most effective way possible.

“My Conducive Learning Environment”
“My Conducive Learning
Environment”
By: Jelly May Cogollodo
A conducive learning environment is something that every
learner desires to experience as they embark on their academic
pursuits. It’s an atmosphere of learning that, if taken seriously by
the educators, could enable learners to completely obtain
essential learning. Basically, we describe it as a classroom
environment that is friendly, fair, safe, supportive, pleasant, and
other positive words suitable for promoting a healthy place for
learning acquisition. Different teachers have different routines
and procedures in the classroom, and in a classroom, there are
diverse learners who have distinct characteristics that require
teachers to create diversified activities for the attainment of the
objectives necessary in the field of study. Every aspiring teacher
like me must see teaching as a way of making difference in the
lives of every learner, and for this to be possible, it should be in
tandem with this so-called “Conducive Learning Environment”.
To the best of my ability, using my skills in creativity,
creating a space that is conducive to learning is part of my
utmost priority. The teaching skills and competencies I had
gained from my chosen course would help me organize my
future classroom to align with the standard arrangement that
could foster students’ motivation to learn. In my conducive
learning environment, I will make sure that my students will
embrace learning without the feeling of being pressured from
others’ expectations. The conduct of my classes is way more
interesting and fun with a focus of inculcating the necessary
knowledge and concepts about the subject matter. Additionally,
a spacious area together with a sufficient learning resource
matters a lot especially in encouraging students to concentrate
on their academic endeavor. Therefore, having a conducive
learning environment is highly helpful for both teachers and
students so that everyone could feel comfortable in carrying out
their respective task.
