Target Your Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of this Learning Episode, I must be able to revisit the concept of learning environment in the context of
the current teaching and learning situation.

Clarify Your Task

Overview of the Learning Environment
A learning environment, traditionally called the classroom, is a space in a school that supports student
learning. It is a self-contained area where teacher teaches and children learn. In the classroom are chairs or
tables for students and a front table for the teacher. This is a traditional face-to-face classroom. Most often the
students should face the teacher as the chairs are arrange that way. But as teaching deliveries changed to
enhance learning, modification in the seating arrangement evolved and more opportunity for the learners to
move about for cooperative learning was addressed.
A conducive learning environment should have the following characteristics:
 Flexibility- There is opportunity to have small groups, movable walls.
 Openness- Learning corners/areas which could be shared.
 Access to resources- Audio-visual materials are ready and open for use.
 Physical classroom- Space is clean and safe.
 Psychological atmosphere- It is friendly and accommodating.
The classroom climate nurtures the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of the
students.
Here are some specific strategies for developing the optimal classroom climate. You may consider these.
1. Learning environment addresses both physical and psychological needs of the students
for security and order, love and belonging, personal power and competence, freedom and
fun.
2. Create a sense of order. For example, teacher should teach students how to
 enter the classroom and immediately engaged in the activity;
 distribute and collect materials;
 find out about missed assignments due to absence and how to make up for them;
 get the teacher’s attention without disrupting the class and
 arranged desks, tables quickly and quietly for various purposes.
3. Greet learners as they enter your face-to-face or on-line classroom.
4. In a healthy and conducive learning environment, everybody belongs and knows each
other.
5. Encourage class building activities like games and team activities.
6. In a conducive learning environment, success whether small or big is recognized and
celebrated.
Both approaches, either the traditional face-to-face or online, lead to positive results but I different
ways, so usually in practice both approaches combined.

Learning environment can be traditional (F2F), virtual (on-line) or a combination (Hybrid).

Participate and Assist

What will you do to assist your mentor in setting up a conducive learning environment in the following
conditions:
1. Bulletin Board Display. I will assist my mentor by helping her in presenting the bulletin board display. If my
mentor will be needing ideas, I will gladly share my ideas for the bulletin board display will be more
knowledgeable for the learners.
2. Small Group Discussion. I will assist my mentor by making myself as one of the guidance of the groups. I
will also help my mentor in preparing the learners in grouping themselves to avoid commotion in the class.
3. Checking class attendance in a virtual classroom = ( i.e. google meet or zoom). If my mentor is having a
difficulty in making class attendance online I will volunteer to do so. And also I will assist her to make
the checking of class attendance more interesting and applicable for the learners.

Notice
Learning Environment 1:
 What have you notice in the classroom bulletin board? What message or theme does it
convey? I have noticed in the classroom bulletin board that it have a lot of information
that will help the learners and also it is applicable in face-to-face learning environment.
The message or the theme it convey is that having a traditional way of delivering
information. Aside from it the classroom bulletin board is very useful to have a good and
effective learning environment because it attract and capture the interest of the learners.
 What makes it attractive to the learners? The design itself capture the attraction and
interest of the learners. Aside from it the information inside the bulletin board is one of
the reason too why the learners are attracted and interested in a classroom bulletin borad
display.
 Does it help in the learning process? YES How? By the attraction the bulletin board gives
to the learners, they show interest on what’s inside bulletin board display. Aside from it,
the information that is inside the bulletin board is a big help for the knowledge and
learnings of the learners.

Learning Environment 2:
 If the teacher is using distance delivery of learning through the modules, where is most
likely the learning space of the students? I think the most likely learning space of the
students if the teacher is using distance delivery of learning through modules in their space
at home.
 Can you describe? As we are facing the pandemic, students are prohibited upon going out
for school, so as their one way of learning is through the distance delivery of learning
through the modules. So as for the students to answer their activities in the modules
students need to answer it at home to avoid any contacts personally with their classmates
and teacher.
 How can you as a teacher help to make such environment conducive for learning? As for
me as a teacher to, I think the best way to help the said environment to make it as a
conductive learning environment is by being an approachable and understanding teacher
to my learners. Because I know as we are using the distance delivery of learning through
modules as a way of giving knowledge to our students is hard for us teachers, it is also
hard for the students to cope up in a short period of time. So the best way to make this as a
conductive learning environment is to understand each other’s side.
Analyze
The examples above, describe two contrasting situations. The first shows that the learners are in the
same room or space while in the second, the learners maybe in different spaces like homes, study hubs or in
extreme cases parks or under the trees.
As a teacher, in which of the two situations would you prefer to manage for learning? Choose between
learning environment 1 or Learning Environment 2.
Explain your choice: Why? I choose the learning environment 1, because for me as a teacher it more
interesting and more attractive than the learning environment 2. Bulletin board display is way more
informational than the distance delivery of learning through modules for me. One of the reason also is the
teachers in learning environment 1 is easy to connect and approach. While the learning environment 2 is way
more confusing because other modules are not complete and need more research to do to understand more the
certain topic. So as for me as a teacher I prefer the Classroom Bulletin Board Display for the reason that it is
more traditional and the connection between students and teachers are present.
Reflect
Based on my noticing and analysis, I realized that
a. Traditional way of learning just like Bulletin Board Display is interesting and attractive.
b. Distance delivery of learning through modules is a little bit confusing for the learners.
c. Both traditional and new way of delivering learnings is needed to have a good and conductive learning
environment.

Write Action Research Prompts

OBSERVE

What probable problem may result from the two situations of the learning environment?
The probable problem may result from the two situation of the learning environment is the learners interest to
learn.
REFLECT

What solutions can I think of to solve the problem?

I think the solution to solve this problem is to make my lesson and discussion as a teacher more interesting that
can capture the interest and attention of my students to learn.

PLAN

How should I do it?

I will do it as making my lesson more attractive and make it more interesting. Probably I will make the activities of the
lesson either what my learner’s interest. For example they are more likely to give attention in playing, so I will make the
activity in a play way but still connected to the topic.

In not less than 300 words, write an essay on the topic: “My Conducive Learning Environment”

“My Conducive Learning Environment”

By: MARY ANN V. DAPAR BSEd FILIPINO 4-1

Conductive learning environment is defined as favorable

surroundings or conditions. One way to make the learning environment
conductive is to start from ourselves. A learner should have an interest to
learn, a teacher should have a willingness and love to teach. Both
learners and teachers should have enough inspiration and motivation
both internally and externally to learn and teach in every day. To have a
conductive learning environment the relationship of both learners and
teachers should be good.
One of the reason why learners want to learn is probable the way
of their teachers delivering the lesson. But as for the others, they want to
learn because of their interest and curiosity to a certain lesson. The best
way to have a good conductive learning environment is for the students
to know what they want and what they like. The teacher’s creative way
of delivering the lesson is useless if the presence of interest in the
students’ inner self is gone. The starting point of having a conductive
learning environment for the learners is really starting from the students’
likes and wants.
For me to achieve my conductive learning environment for my
learners is that I will know the interest of my learners. I will connect my
creative way of delivering learnings to their interest in learning. I will
also make sure that in every lesson I make I will make it more attractive.
To have a conductive learning environment for my learners is always a
good feeling for me. For me as their teacher, I will try my best to
understand more, to connect more and also to teach more. Because
having a conductive learning environment can result in to a good and
effective learnings.
