Taare Zameen Par

Aamir Khan produced and directed the 2007 Indian drama film Taare Zameen Par, also known as
Like Stars on Earth in English. Along with Darsheel Safary, Tanay Chheda, Sachet Engineer,
Vipin Sharma, and Tisca Chopra, Khan himself appears in the movie. Ishaan (Safary), an 8-year-
old boy who excels in painting but performs poorly academically, is profiled in the movie. His
parents move him to a boarding school, where a new art instructor named Nikumbh (Khan)
guesses that he is dyslexic and works with him to overcome his reading disability. On December
21, 2007, Taare Zameen Par had its theatrical debut in India and went on to gross $1.35 billion
worldwide, demonstrating its commercial viability. It won high marks from critics who praised
the film's original plot, writing, director, dialogue, soundtrack, and cast performances.
Additionally, the movie was crucial in spreading knowledge about dyslexia.
Ishaan Awasthi's inventiveness, ingenuity and aptitude for drawing and painting are frequently
overlooked. His mother, Maya, is a housewife who is disappointed by her failure to educate
Ishaan. His father, Nandkishore, is an executive who expects his kids to flourish. Yohan, Ishaan's
older brother, is an excellent student who continues to live in Ishaan's shadow. Ishaan's principal
calls him and his parents one day to talk about his academic shortcomings. Nandkishore sends
Ishaan to a boarding school after becoming weary of hearing about his shortcomings and lack of
progress. He quickly descends into a condition of terror, anxiety, and sadness when left alone
there, which is further made worse by the school's severe and abusive teachers. Rajan
Damodaran, a physically challenged student who is one of the top students and lives there with
his family because his father serves on the school board, is his only friend. One day, Ishaan
considers killing himself, but Rajan stops him.
An enthusiastic and optimistic teacher at the Tulips School for young children with
developmental impairments is Ram Shankar Nikumbh. Ishaan has dyslexia, which his teacher
dismisses as being the result of laziness and classifies as an intellectual disability. Ram then goes
to see Ishaan in Mumbai, where he is shocked to learn that Ishaan has a secret passion for art.
Back at school, Ram brings up the topic of dyslexia in a class by offering a list of famous
dyslexic people. Ram obtains the principal's permission to become Ishaan's tutor. With gradual
care, he works to improve Ishaan's reading and writing by using remedial techniques developed
by dyslexia specialists that improves Ishaan’s grades. When Ishaan's father Nandkishore visit the
school, he sees his son reading from a board, he is unable to face his son and walks away. At the
end of the school year, Ram organises an arts and crafts contest for the staff and students, judged
by artist Lalita Lajmi. Ishaan's work makes him the winner and Ram is declared the runner-up.
The principal announces that Ram has been hired as the school's permanent art teacher.
Overcome with emotion, Nandkishore thanks Ram because he stays and helped his son at the
times no one understands Ishaan.
The overall plot of the movie is emotionally amazing and captivating where the dialogues,
characters and costumes are powerful and true to life. The mood and the colors that was used in
the movie are colorful and imaginative that makes the movie understand what a dyslexic person
experience and see. The tone of the songs is very catchy, touching and always on time that makes
the movie more dramatic and emphasis the emotions. The camera techniques are amazing
because it shows what dyslexic person sees and experience.
As a teacher, we are the second parent of our students that’s why we need to be more
understanding and observative of our student’s behavior and actions. Our students live in
different houses and have different learning development that makes us think and use different
learning strategies. Just like in the movie, Ishaan Awasthi, a young boy with intellectual
impairments. Ishaan seemed to be unappreciated by everyone, including his parents, fellow
students, and teachers at his school. He was always misunderstood. Teachers at school find it
difficult to comprehend him and assume that he is simply insane, lethargic, and disobedient.
They did not even attempt to investigate the child's academic struggles. Additionally, he was
regularly bullied by other kids because they felt he was an idiot. Then, his teacher in art, Ram,
observe him and patiently teaches him to read and write.
In conclusion, Taare Zameen Par is a Bollywood movie that you should definitely watch. It has
some of the most vibrant and artistic design and animation that I've ever seen in a Bollywood
movie, and it's also very family-friendly, which strays from the genre's usual conventions and
keeps a child at the center of the story the entire time. The movie expertly demonstrated how a
teacher can act as both a parent and a guardian, caring for a kid as though they were their own. It
addressed on the subject of handling dyslexic children in the most tactful manner, while also
encouraging perseverance and developing a child's special aptitude without underestimating
them.
