    microscope to gather data about very small objects

    I. Objective
    At the end of the discussion, students will be able to:
    a. identify the parts that make up an organism,
    b. differentiate the function of each part
    c. describe how these parts work together in an organism

    II. Subject Matter


    Topic: Levels of Biological Organization
    Reference: Science Grade 7, Learner’s Module
    Materials: Textbook, visual aids
    Drug Integration: Organs That Are Affected by Drug Overdose

    III. Procedure
    A. Motivation
    Review the parts of a compound microscope.
    1. What are the three main parts of a compound microscope?
    2. What are the sub-parts of illuminating parts?
    3.
    B. Presentation
    Show the class, pictures of a human being, plant and an animal.
    Ask:
    Human being, plant and animals are what?
    Did you ask yourself, what makes me up?

    C. Discussion
    You are an organism just like the plants and animals. Your body has different level of
    organization. Organ systems work together to help organisms meet their basic needs and to survive.
    These are the circulatory system, digestive system, excretory system and the respiratory system. Each
    system is made up of organs that have related functions and are grouped together.
    Ask:
    What do you think will happen if we will not take care any of these part?
    How about people who are drug dependent? What will happen to their body?

    Show them the picture. (see next page)


    D. Generalization
    What are the different level of organization?
    What organs made up the digestive system?
    E. Application
    Give the organs of the following organ system:
    1. Digestive system
    2. Circulatory system
    3. Excretory system

    IV. Assessment
    Identify the following:

    1. It is made up of heart, blood vessels and blood.


    2. What are the common side effects of drugs in human heart?
    3. It is about the size of your fist that pumps and circulates blood to the different parts of the body.
    4. It is made up of different organs that help the body eliminate metabolic waste and maintain
    internal balance.
    5. Kidneys eliminate wastes that are no longer needed by the body. What kind of drugs that if
    abuse might damage the kidney?

    V. Assignment
    Interview relatives or neighbors who have heart or kidney problems and ask them how these
    diseases affect their life.
