GENERAL EMILIO AGUINALDO’S HATRED TOWARD THE SPANIARDS
• The Philippines was ruled by the Spaniards for over 300 years.
• It all begun in Mactan, Cebu when Ferdinand Magellan first steps its foot in the Philippines.
• WithSpaniards ruling the Philippines, this brought fear, slavery, and discrimination.
• Spaniards were the ruler and the Filipino were nothing but slaves.
• Though Spain became the ruler by the virtue of King Philip II, there were still Filipinos who
fought and became independent in the hands of the Spaniards.
SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR (1898)
• April 21, 1898
• United States declared a war against
Spain.
• General Emilio Aguinaldo cooperated
with the Americans to help the
Philippines take back control from their
Spain.
• General Emilio Aguinaldo returned to the
Philippines bringing Philippine flag sewn
by Marcella Agoncillio, Lorenza
Agoncillio and Delfina Herbosa.
• He reunites the Filipinos to fight against
the Spaniard.
DECLARATION OF PHILIPPINE
INDEPENDENCE
• General Emilio Aguinaldo and his people
received recognition for Philippine
Independence on June 12 1898 in Kawit,
Cavite.
• It was accompanied by the playing of
Philippine National Anthem composed by
Julian Felipe with lyrics composed by
Jose Palma.
• However, Americans and Spanish did not
recognized the declaration because of
the Treaty of Paris.
• Spaniards handed over the Philippines
to the Americans.
• THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL FLAG
• First unfurled on May 28, 1898 after the
revolutionary army defeated the
Spaniards
• Formally presented to the public on
June 12, 1898
• The colors, shapes, and every details
symbolizes and represents a deep
meaning from the history
• Sewn by Marcela Agoncillio, Lorenza
Agoncillio, and Delfina Herbosa de
Natividad in Hong Kong

THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL ANTHEM
• Lupang inirang “The Chosen Land” or
“Marcha Nacional Filipina
• Composed in 1898 by Julian Felipe
• Lyrics were adapted from the spanish
poem “Filipinas” by Jose Palma in 1899
• The National anthem embodies and
expresses the aspirations, dreams,
ideals, longings, commitment and
determination, nationalism and
patriotism, sentiment and spirit of the
Filipino people
§ A horizontal flag bicolor with equal bands
of royal blue and crimson red, white,
equilateral triangle at the hoist.
• In the center of the triangle is a golden-
yellow sun with eight primary rays,
representing a Philippine province.
• At each vertex of the triangle is a five-
pointed, golden-yellow star, representing
Luzon, Visayas (though originally referring to
Panay)[b] and Mindanao.
• The white triangle at the flag represents
liberty, equality, and fraternity
• The shade of blue used in the flag has varied
over time, beginning with the original color

colors restored to the original light blue and
red of the Cuban flag in 1985.

Real” in Spain.
• Replacing the “Marangal na Dalit ng
Katagalugan”
• Was adopted as the national march of
Philippine Republic
• First performed at the proclamation of
Philippine Independence
