OF THE
PHILIPPINE
INDEPENDENCE
 The act of the Declaration of
Independence was prepared and
written by Ambrosio Rianzares
Bautista also known as “Don
Bosyong”.

JUNE 12, 1898 – The Philippine


Declaration of Independence was
proclaimed in Kawit, Cavite.
Filipino revolutionary forces under
General Emilio Aguinaldo
proclaimed the sovereignty and
independence of the Philippine
Islands from the colonial rule of
Spain.

1896 – the Philippine Revolution


began. Eventually, the Spanish signed
an agreement with the
revolutionaries.
• May 1, 1898 – the United States
defeated the Spanish in the
Battle of Manila Bay.

Independence was proclaimed


on June 12, 1898 between four
and five in the afternoon in
Cavite at the ancestral home of
General Emilio Aguinaldo.
The day was declared a
national holiday. Thousands of
people from the provinces
gathered in Kawit to witness
the historic event.

The Philippine Proclamation


was signed by 98 persons,
among them are American
Army Officer.
 Another detail in the proclamation that
is worth looking is the explanation of
the Philippine Flag that was first waved
on the same day. Wherein it was made
in Hong Kong by Marcela Agocillio,
Lorenza Agoncillio and Delfina
Herboza.

 Followed by the performance of the


“Marcha Filipina Magdalo” now known
as “Lupang Hinirang”, the “National
Anthem”. The composer is Julian Felipe,
the lyrics of the Anthem were sourced a
year from the poem of Jose Palma
entitled “Fipilinas”.
 General Aguinaldo explained the
symbolism of the flag:
 lower red - represents patriotism and valor
 upper blue – signifies peace, truth, and
justice.
 white triangle – stands of equality
 three stars – 3 geographical areas of Luzon,
Visayas and Mindanao.
 Eight rays of the Sun – refers to the first 8
provinces of Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga,
Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Laguna, Batangas and
Cavite.
The declaration was not recognize by
the U.S nor Spain sold the Philippines
to the United States in the 1898 Treaty
of Paris ended the Spanish-American
War.

During Philippine-American War- the


Philippine Revolutionary Government
did not recognize the treaty or
American sovereignty and subsequently
fought and lost a conflict with United
States.
Ended when Emilio Aguinaldo
was captured by U.S forces, and
issued a statement acknowledging
and accepting the sovereignty of
U.S over the Philippines.
1964-President Diosdado
Macapagal signed into Law
Republic Act No. 4166 designating
JUNE 12 as the country’s
Independence Day.
 The Proclamation of the Philippine
Independence says, sovereignty
and independence of the Philippine
from Spanish Colonization.
 Filipinos have the right to be free
and independent and also to show
how Filipino are strong as one and
how fierce we are fighting the
Spanish Colonizers.
