Career: Pharmacist

1. Education required and or recommendations: A bachelor’s degree in science,


practical training in the field, and pharmacy license.

Suggested Post-Secondary Institutions: UBC, SFU, and Dalhousie University.

2. Cost of training in Canadian $ (full program cost for all years): In UBC the program
lasts 4-5 years costs around 60,000-70,000$.

3. Salary range: Pharmacist make around 69,000-127,000$ a year

4. Job description: The main role of pharmacists is to fill prescriptions based on the
instructions given by physicians/ doctors on the proper amounts of medication to give
to patients. They are also expected to check if the patient is taking any other
medications or if the patient has any medical conditions that will interfere with the
prescribed medication. They are expected to give the patient the details of the
medication such as: dosage amounts, potential side effects, advice on diet exercise,
and other medical advice. They also complete insurance forms and work alongside
with insurance companies to ensure patients get the medicines they require.

you will have your own business

13. Typical hours of work: Hospital hours a really long if you have your own business it’s
up to you, but most pharmacist work up to 40 hours a week

14. Describe what has influenced your choice of this occupation: what influenced me is
the amount of money you make plus it’s an office job so you’re your body doesn’t wear
down overtime.

15. What are the future trends of this occupation: This job has grown in 49% from the last

5 year apprenticeship program, courses in heavy equipment repair
