9. Skills or characteristics required: The skills I would need for this Veterinarian career
would be being able to know the Sciences, good reading comprehension, critical
thinking, speaking, complex problem solving, active listening, judgement, decision-
making, active learning, monitoring and service orientation.
10. Disadvantages of occupation: It would be the costly price for college education and the
more than average amount of years in studying for Veterinary. There is also the
completion of national certification examination and the provincial license practice
needed, which are costly to take as well. Another disadvantage would be the issues of
allergies from the animals.

11. Describe how your values, skills and interests relate to this career option: My interests
are caring for animals. I find myself to be very capable and skilled in taking care of them
as well. I am very responsible in keeping an eye on my pets. I highly value animal life
and their wellbeing.

12. What courses and grades are needed to enter this occupation? The courses needed to
take are two years of pre-veterinary university studies or the completion of a college
program, a four to five year university degree in veterinary medicine, completion of
national certification examinations are required, and a provincial license to practice. The
grades for the courses must all be at least average and passing.

13. Working conditions: Work generally takes place in animal hospitals or clinics, may take
place outdoors in various weather conditions, may be exposed to infectious bacteria and
viruses that may cause illnesses, working with equipment and instruments that may
cause injuries and strong or toxic odors present
in the work place.

14. Typical hours of work: The hours are about 30-50 hours a week. Veterinarians often
work long and erratic hours, and the possibilities of night shifts and weekend work.
Veterinarians must respond to emergencies at any time.

15. Describe what has influenced your choice of this occupation: What influenced me to
choose a Veterinarian career is my love for animals. The desire to help them, take care
of them and heal them. I have had taken care of a lot of pets ever since I was young and
even now I still have a pet that I am taking care of. To be able to know what's wrong with
the pets I take care of so I am able to aid them is something that I would enjoy putting
my life into

16. What are the future trends of this occupation: The future trends seem to be a 1.7%
increase in employment growth rate by 2023 and 550 job openings expected in 10 years
in British Colombia.

1. The hazards or risks of being a Veterinarian was not covered. I feel that this is
important as some people can not handle Veterinarian work because of allergies and other
issues.

2. The specific courses that I need to take to become a Veterinarian. It is important to


know the courses that I am going to tackle in this course, however it was not covered enough
and I wanted more information out of it.

continuously increasing job openings. Rivaling that of the Veterinary career.

26. Skills or characteristics required: The skills required for this career are programming,
strong critical thinking, reading comprehension, active listening, complex problem
solving, speaking, writing, judgement or decision-making, systems analysis, active
learning and monitoring skills.

27. Disadvantages of occupation: Most, if not all work is done at a desk in front of a
computer screen, as well as continuous skill upgrading due to strong competition,
continuous learning even after college, and the possibly costly investment in equipment.

28. Describe how your values, skills and interests relate to this career option: I have
interacted numerous times with programming code as I have programmed games and
software before as homework and as a past time.

29. What courses and grades are needed to enter this occupation? The course needed to
enter this occupation is a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer systems
engineering, software engineering, business administration or a related discipline. Other
training and requirements are combining a college program in computer science with
sufficient work experience and vendor certification for those performing systems analysis
under specific technical platforms.

30. Working conditions: Must be able to work flexible hours as maintenance and upgrades
can only be performed when staff are not using the system and the added pressure
during system rollouts or when solving critical system problems in a tight timeframe.

31. Typical hours of work: The occupation is a full time job, so it requires 40 hours per
week, especially if the client's project demands it. The programmer must have flexible
hours.

32. Describe what has influenced your choice of this occupation: I have always been
interested in computers and how they work. I have spent countless hours doing using

the technology I have, especially on my personal computer. I am able to a lot of things
with a computer.

33. What are the future trends of this occupation: There is a big increase in forecasted
employment growth rate with about 2.9% in 2023, and about 8,050 expected job
openings in the span of 10 years, due to economic growth.

43. Skills or characteristics required: The skills needed are repairing, troubleshooting,
critical thinking, active listening, operation monitoring, operation and control, speaking,

equipment which are tools for car repair or maintenance.

45. Describe how your values, skills and interests relate to this career option: I am very
interested in cars and Auto 12 has been my favorite class in high school.

46. What courses and grades are needed to enter this occupation?

47. Working conditions: Workers in this occupational group generally work in automotive
repair shops or garages. Those employed in small shops tend to have a wider variety of
duties than those in larger shops. Most work environments are well-ventilated and well-
lit, although some shops may be drafty and noisy. This type of work can be dirty and is
often carried out in cramped spaces, with considerable bending, kneeling and lifting.

48. Typical hours of work: Automotive service technicians, truck mechanics and mechanical
repairers typically work a regular 35 to 40-hour workweek. Some workers may be
required to be on call for emergency repairs as some service shops offer evening and
weekend services

49. Describe what has influenced your choice of this occupation: I have always liked cars
ever since I was a child. My interest in them was influenced by when my grandfather
took me to his car shows when I was growing up.

50. What are the future trends of this occupation: There is about a 1.3% employment
growth rate from 2018-2023, however it decreases to 0.9% after 2023. There is,
however, 6380 job openings expected in 10 years, especially in the year 2023.
