and interests.
Go to www.careerinsite.alberta.ca and create your personal account.
Part 2
Go to the know yourself section and take ALL the self-assessment quizzes. It is
important to do all the quizzes to get a full picture of your interests and a more
accurate assessment of your interests.
Answer all the questions to the best of your ability giving thought to your own
personal values and ideas.
When you have completed all the tests you will be able to go to the my career plan
section and see what occupations have been recommended for you. You can click
on any of the occupations in this section and explore the possibilities for each.

Education required and or recommendations: For my career, I need to take
Chemistry, Physics, Math, English, Biology, and computers in high school. A
bachelors (4 years) degree is the minimum educational requirement, but a masters
degree (2 years) or PhD is required for academic or advanced research and
development positions.

Suggested Post-Secondary Institutions: University of British Colombia,
University of Waterloo, Simon Fraser University, University of Toronto, McGill
University, McMaster University, Queens University, University of Calgary,
University of Victoria.

Cost of Training in Canadian (full program cost for all years ) $: At UBC the
cost of tuition for the first year is $6,151.99, my student fees will be $1,137.00, and
my books and supplies will cost $2,200.00. That adds up to $9,488.99 for one year.
The minimum number of credits I need for a bachelor of applied science degree is
144 credits, if one year will give me 37 credits then I will go to school for four years
to get my bachelor of applied science degree. That will cost me $37,955.96. My
master of applied science degree is 30 credits and will take 18-24 months to
complete. It will cost me $98.5 of fees, $9230.70 in tuition, and $1700.00 in student
fees. That will cost me $11029.20.

Salary Range: average pay is between $85,000 and $100,000 a year. Most
engineers earn between $45,000 and $150,000 a year. As engineers gain
experience, their yearly incomes rise. Highly trained specialists and senior-level
managers can earn over $175,000 a year.

I love science and the idea of mixing and using chemicals to create different things
or design equipment that can help me work on interesting assignments. I like to
think that I am very focused and that when I start an assignment that I will work on
it until it is done, I think that that skill is important in this line of work.
12. What courses and grades are needed to enter this Occupation?
Biology, calculus, computer science, electronics, engineering, environmental
engineering, general engineering , geometry, and any other courses depend on
which school you are attending.

Working conditions:
Chemical engineers mostly work indoors, but might have to work at processing
plants outside; depending on the job. They always have to wear protective gear
because they could be exposed to hazardous materials and contaminates.

Typical hours of work: most chemical engineers have a 40-hour work week.
The average day starts at 8:00am and ends at 5:00pm.

Describe what has influenced your choice of this occupation: About 5 years
ago my family got a guy from Ontario that was here for a Co-op job, building an
office for Christy Clarke. His name was Harry Leach. He wanted to be a Civil
engineer and I asked him how many different types of engineers there were and
once he got to chemical engineer I asked him what that was. When he finished
explaining it I just knew that that was what I wanted to do when I grew up.

Cost of Training in Canadian ( full program cost for all years ) $: at SFU tuition
costs $179 per unit, I need 15 units per semester, 1 year is 2 semesters. A
bachelors degree is 4 years, it will cost me $21480 for my bachelors degree. The
minimum cost for a masters degree is 6 terms of tuition, but the minimum fee rule
will be waived for students who complete all degree requirements in less than 6
terms of full time enrolment and have not taken any leaves. That will cost $32220.

Salary Range: A Chemist with masters degree or PhD will earn more than a
chemist with a bachelors degree, however most chemists will earn between
$35,000 and $135,000 a year. Highly trained and senior level management
chemists can earn over $135,000 a year.

Job Description: Chemists develop the preservatives and artificial flavours in
the food we eat, the wax on a snow board, the explosives in fireworks, and many
more different things. Chemists analyze and create all kinds of materials.

that every material is made by chemists.

creating stress. They are exposed to dangerous chemicals, so they must work
carefully and wear protective garb. The chemicals that they handle can be
dangerous to their health as well.

hours per day.

Describe what has influenced your choice of this occupation: I have always
loved science and I have wanted to have a career in science since I was 10. I
wanted to be a chemist before I knew that chemical engineers even existed.

What are the Future Trends of this occupation: chemistry is becoming green,
green chemistry is the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or
eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances.

Education required and or recommendations: Most Electricians complete
training in a 4-5 year apprenticeship that includes in-school work and on-the-job
training. I would need a high school diploma with courses in math, chemistry,
physics, and English to be accepted into an apprenticeship program.

I have always been the overly careful child in my family, so I would be perfect for

ago, my family build a bedroom in our basement for my brother; because we were
sharing rooms at the time. I watched my dad do the electrical himself and I thought
that it would be better if I learned how to do my own electrical, so that I could save
some money.

growing rapidly, and electricians will transition into "energy contractors" to support
