ABSTRACT
This proposal will provide an airport gateway to the province of Quirino. The
province, being known as the “Prime Agro-Industrial and Eco-Tourism Destination in the
North”, has been great in promoting environmental awareness in its region. With this airport,
the province will be open to the whole country and be able to proclaim its environmental
wonders and advocacies. Promoting the beauty of Philippines’ eco-tourism.
Quirino Province is bounded by Isabela on the north, Aurora on east and southeast
and Nueva Vizcaya on the west and southwestern side. It is surrounded by these wonderful
places of their own. The airport will be strategically located in Quirino so that it will serve
the whole province, yet providing an access to the places that surround it.
The province has 305,718 hectares of land with 70,258 hectares classified as
Alienable and Disposable Land (A&D) and 235,460 hectares as Forest Land. It apparently
gives importance to the forests and biodiversity that lies inside its borders. As a matter of
fact, the province has “Quirino Protected Landscape” area.
Tourism in the province of
Quirino is a growing sector that
contributes to socio-economic
development opportunities while
environmental and natural
resource conservation and
protection is vigorously pursued.
The province is a silent and a
landlocked haven of ecotourism
destinations. It is identified by the Regional Development Council for sustainable
ecotourism development given such bounty of nature-based riches. Local leaders, articulate
of Quirino’s blessings of scenic spots that include unique caves formations, awe-dropping
landscapes, distinct rock towers, pristine rivers, corridor hills, lush forests, native products,
rich cultural heritage and arts, among others.

With all of these advocacies, green architecture will fit the whole idea of having an
infrastructure that will blend into the environment without damaging it. The domestic airport
will represent Quirino’s environmental reputation. Throughout the design process, 6 key
elements will be observed. These are energy efficiency, electrical systems efficiency, water
efficiency, material and waste management, indoor environment quality and site
sustainability. Together, all of these will result into a structure that is livable, comfortable
and sustainable. Just like the province of Quirino.
Other than the airport itself, the project will be supplemented with transit hotel and
mall. Accommodation and recreation integrated with the airport will make it a complete
facility, eliminating the hassle of finding where to stay and rejuvenate after the trip.
Amenities such as material recovery facility, waste handling facilities, power sub-station
and water tanks will be strategically located throughout the site. Open spaces will also be
present and large enough such that it can hold congregations for social interactions. Green
architecture will be implemented in different phases of the design process.
Upon approval, the researcher will proceed to further studies and will conform to specific
dates of submission. Your favor upon the research is highly appreciated.
