The Battle was Jones's second album following his divorce from Tammy Wynette and continued his mid-seventies commercial slide. Although it did slightly better than his previous album Memories of Us on the Billboard country album charts, reaching number 36, it was a far cry from what the singer had been accustomed to. Despite the absence of a hit single, Jones's singing is characteristically impeccable, especially on the title track, which peaked at number 14 on the singles chart. Roy Kasten of Amazon.com argues, "The extended metaphor of "The Battle," in which satin gowns become armor and tears deadly weapons, would be absurd in most hands; yet the story of a marriage disintegrating into war, but somehow finding peace, becomes transcendent in the hands of Jones..." The singer gives an equally moving vocal on David Allan Coe's "I Still Sing The Old Songs", which is topped off by producer Billy Sherrill having a lone violin playing "The Red River Valley" on the outro. The Battle also includes a song Jones wrote with Wynette called "Wean Me", in which Jones begs an unnamed woman to "Take this bottle from my hand" and laments his "childish ways," lines that may have been all too prescient for Wynette. In the liner notes to the 1999 reissue of the LP, Wynette is quoted, "It's funny, George and I have lived our life in our music. It's all there...the fans don't have to ask."
Malachai are a two-piece band from Bristol, England. They were renamed Malachai in 2010 from the previous spelling Malakai after the band discovered that the name Malikai was already used by an American rap artist. The members of the band are Gee Ealey (vocals) and DJ Scott Hendy (music). Their sound is a mix of beats and samples, drawing on a wide range of influences from BBC Radiophonic-type experimentalism through 'Golden Era' Hip-Hop to 1960s Psyche Pop.
History
Discovered by Geoff Barrow from the Bristol based band Portishead, Malachai (then as Malakai) released a limited edition12" on Barrow's Invada Records record label called Fading World. This track was used as the music to accompany the I Count: Stop Climate Chaosvideo that first aired at the 2007 Glastonbury Festival. It was directed by Gerald McMorrow, whose filmFranklyn also contained four Malachai tracks. In 2012 Snowflake provided the background ambience for the Lexus Walk the Walk All Weather Drive TV commercial.
The song entered and peaked at #4 on Swedish Trackslistan on 24 February 2007 and charted for six weeks. The song peaked at #1 on the Swedish singles chart on 22 February 2007.
"Tokyo" is a song by Englishindierock bandAthlete and is the third track on their 2007 albumBeyond the Neighbourhood. The song was released as the second single from that album on November 19, 2007 (see 2007 in British music). The song charted at #198 making it Athlete's lowest charting single to date, partly due to a lack of promotion, and partly due to UK Chart guidelines discounting sales of the EP version (thus only sales of the 7" were counted).
"Tokyo" is a single by The Adicts, released under the name ADX, produced by the band with ex-Vapors frontman David Fenton. It was the first of two singles by the band released on Sire Records. A remixed version of the song later appeared on the band's next album Smart Alex.

LIfe is never fair, man will let you down It's how you face your obstacles, react to things around And I will not stand still, I'll hold my head up high My heart is big, my passion strong, you cannot stop this drive I know you though that this battle had been won But I will reassure you that this battle's just begun Get out of my way, today is the day that I am breaking free From all of your thoughts and all of your words that tried to bring down me - You should have thought long and you should have thought hard before you tossed me out - 'Cause this old Tulsa boy who plays the keys and writes these melodies is gonna rock this town Let my life speak loud to all of you around No matter what they say to you, they cannot hold you down Your dreams and goals are bigger than your opposition's words So brush 'em off and forget them, it's time to go change the world I know you though that this battle had been won But I will reassure you that this battle's just begun Get out of my way, today is the day that I am breaking free From all of your thoughts and all of your words that tried to bring down me - You should have thought long and you should have thought hard before you tossed me out - 'Cause this old Tulsa boy who plays the keys
