Dorud (Persian:دورود, also Romanized as Dorūd, Dūrūd, and Dow Rūd; also known as Bahrain and Dorood Garan) is a city in and capital of Dorud County, Lorestan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 159,026 in 23,596 families. The name Dorud means "where two rivers meet", where "Do" means two, and "rud" means river.
Sports
Doroud has one main football team, Gahar Zagros who plays in the Iranian Azadegan League (2nd Division), Gahar was the first team from the Province of Lorestan to make it to the Iran Pro League.
Bahrain (i/bɑːˈreɪn/; Arabic:البحرينal-Baḥrayn), officially the Kingdom of Bahrain (Arabic:مملكة البحرينMamlakat al-Baḥrayn), is a small island country situated near the western shores of the Persian Gulf in the Middle East. It is an archipelago with Bahrain Island, the largest land mass, at 55km (34mi) long by 18km (11mi) wide. Saudi Arabia lies to the west and is connected to Bahrain by the King Fahd Causeway while Iran lies 200km (124mi) to the north across the Persian Gulf. The peninsula of Qatar is to the southeast across the Gulf of Bahrain. The population in 2010 stood at 1,234,571, including 666,172 non-nationals.
Al-Bahrain Sports Club (Arabic:نادي البحرين الرياضي), otherwise simply known as Bahrain, is primarily a Bahrainifootball club based in the island-governorate of Al-Muharraq. Their football team currently plays in the Bahraini Premier League. Their home football stadium is the Al Muharraq Stadium, which they share along with their local island rivals, Al-Muharraq Sports Club. Bahrain Club also have teams for other sports, such as Basketball, Team Handball and Volleyball.
Iran (/aɪˈræn/ or i/ɪˈrɑːn/;Persian:Irān – ایران[ʔiːˈɾɒːn]), also known as Persia (/ˈpɜːrʒə/ or /ˈpɜːrʃə/), officially the Islamic Republic of Iran (جمهوری اسلامی ایران – Jomhuri ye Eslāmi ye Irān[d͡ʒomhuːˌɾije eslɒːˌmije ʔiːˈɾɒːn]), is a country in Western Asia. It is bordered to the northwest by Armenia, the de factoNagorno-Karabakh, and Azerbaijan; with Kazakhstan and Russia across the Caspian Sea; to the northeast by Turkmenistan; to the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan; to the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman; and to the west by Turkey and Iraq. Comprising a land area of 1,648,195km2 (636,372sqmi), it is the second-largest country in the Middle East and the 18th-largest in the world. With 78.4 million inhabitants, Iran is the world's 17th-most-populous country. It is the only country that has both a Caspian Sea and an Indian Ocean coastline. Iran has long been of geostrategic importance because of its central location in Eurasia and Western Asia, and its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz.
Şiran, also Karaca, is a town and district of Gümüşhane Province in the Black Sea region of Turkey. It is one of the points of passage between Eastern Anatolia and Black Sea regions of Turkey, in the sense that the western road departing from Erzincan towards the Zigana Pass (the key pass between the two geographies) has its last urban stop in Şiran. According to the 2010 census, population of the district is 17,600 of which 8,207 live in the town of Şiran. The district covers an area of 928km2 (358sqmi), and the town lies at an elevation of 1,457m (4,780ft).
Name
The name comes from Persian and means "the lions", although it is most likely to be an adaptation of the former Greek name of Cheriana (Χερίανα) adopted after the Turkish settlement in the region after and possibly even slightly before the Battle of Manzikert.
History
Many of the northern villages of the district was home to minority populations of Pontic Greeks until the 1922 Exchange of Greek and Turkish Populations, constituting the southern fringes of that community's extension. Some among the present population can also trace their roots to Greeks who had converted to Islam until as late as the end of the 19th century, as indicated by the Ottoman census and changed village names (for example, the present village of "Evren" was formerly called "Sefker").
Recent archaeological research has pushed back the date of the known origin of wine making in Persia far beyond that which writers earlier in the 20th century had envisaged. Excavations at the Godin Tepe site in the Zagros mountains (Badler, 1995; McGovern and Michel, 1995; McGovern, 2003), have revealed pottery vessels dating from c. 3100–2900 BC containing tartaric acid, almost certainly indicating the former presence of wine. Even earlier evidence was found at the site of Hajji Firuz Tepe, also in the Zagros mountains. Here, McGovern et al. (1996) used chemical analyses of the residue of a Neolithic jar dating from as early as 5400–5000 BC to indicate high levels of tartaric acid, again suggesting that the fluid contained therein had been made from grapes.
As book of Immortal Land Persian:سرزمین جاوید or Sar Zamin e Javid] (by Zabihollah Mansoori) says Ramian wines were world-famous in the Parthian Empire. Ramian Wine is now a California wine brand but Shiraz wines are famous across the globe.
Iranian media has begun pushing an old territorial claim again. Recent reports have claimed that Bahrain is the "14th province of Iran". Priyanka Sharma tells you more.

Uprisings in Bahrain Ratchet Up Tension With Iran
As uprisings in the Middle East have spread in recent months, one key Persian Gulf country - Bahrain - has become the scene of demonstrations demanding greater political freedoms. But the situation in Bahrain is not entirely internal. The Gulf Cooperation Council - a coalition of key Persian Gulf states - has weighed in on one side of the turmoil, with Iran speaking up on the other. The rhetoric has increasingly hardened, as both sides seek to influence what happens there.

Bilal Saab on Iran’s Long Game in Bahrain
Bilal Saab, senior fellow and director of the Defense and Security Program at the Middle East Institute, cautions in a new issue brief, Iran’s Long Game in Bahrain, that analysts should not overstate the strength of Iran’s influence among the Bahraini opposition, but Iran’s role is nevertheless increasing. Saab concludes that Bahrain must leave as little room for Iran to operate as possible, coupled with a policy of meaningful, inclusive political reform, in order to keep Tehran’s influence at bay. (7 Jun 1996) Arabic/Nat
Iran has recalled its ambassador from Bahrain over allegations that it sponsored an effort to topple Bahrain's ruling family.
The arrests this week of four Bahrainis who confessed to the coup attempt and then alleged that Iran sponsored and financed it have complicated the matter.
Iran recalled its ambassador from Bahrain on Thursday denying charges that it had sponsored the coup attempt against the ruling family in the emirate.
Bahrain had already recalled its ambassador to Iran earlier this week over the scandal.
The two countries have now effectively downgraded ties, but have not severed them.
The Iranian Embassy in Manama, Bahrain's capital, confirmed that Javad Turk Abadi, the Iranian ambassador in Bahrain for more than five years, had been called home.
Bahrain claimed Monday that it had foiled a plot orchestrated by Iran to topple the ruling Al Khalifa family, which has dominated his Persian Gulf island-state for more than 200 years.
Authorities say 44 conspirators were arrested during an 18-month wave of unrest they claim was incited by Iran, but only recently confessed to the alleged coup plot.
Iran denies involvement.
The Secretary General of the Opposition for Liberating Bahrain Sheikh Mahmud Ali Mahfouz said he believes the people of Bahrain suffer under the country's current leader Al-Khalifeh.
SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Mahfouz:
"We as the Opposition Front to the current ruling system .. we demand every one who wants to live in freedom to collaborate with each other in order to have a democratic regime based on respecting human rights and equality. These efforts should be used to relieve us of Al-Khalifeh's oppressive regime"
SUPER CAPTION: Sheikh Mahmud Ali Mahfouz, Secretary General of the Opposition for Liberating Bahrain
Speaking from Beirut Sheikh Mahmud Ali Mahfouz also charged the government with setting up others to take the fall for its crimes.
SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Mahfouz:
"The ruins and aggression undertaken by the current government, the killing of more than 20 persons in prison due to torture and violence against religious mosques and civilian homes is proof of Al-Khalifeh's aggression. But sometimes the government puts these blames on somebody else in order to hide its own crimes"

Sheikh Mahmud Ali Mahfouz made his charges from the safety of his hideout in Beirut.
Criticising the ruling family of Bahrain while inside its borders has historically been a dangerous act.
