Pontic Greeks
The Pontic Greeks, also known as Pontian Greeks (Greek: Πόντιοι, Ελληνοπόντιοι, Póntioi, Ellinopóntioi; Turkish: Pontus Rumları, Karadeniz Rumlari, Georgian: პონტოელი ბერძნები), are an ethnically Greek group who traditionally lived in the region of Pontus, on the shores of the Black Sea and in the Pontic Alps of northeastern Anatolia. Many later migrated to other parts of Eastern Anatolia, to the former Russian province of Kars Oblast in the Transcaucasus, and to Georgia in various waves between the Ottoman conquest of the Empire of Trebizond in 1461 and the second Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829. Those from southern Russia, Ukraine, and Crimea are often referred to as "Northern Pontic [Greeks]", in contrast to those from "South Pontus", which strictly speaking is Pontus proper. Those from Georgia, northeastern Anatolia, and the former Russian Caucasus are in contemporary Greek academic circles often referred to as "Eastern Pontic [Greeks]" or as Caucasian Greeks, but also include the Greco-Turkic speaking Urums.

Greeks
The Greeks or Hellenes (Greek: Έλληνες [ˈelines]) are an ethnic group native to Greece, Cyprus, Albania, Turkey, Southern Italy, and other regions. They also form a significant diaspora, with Greek communities established around the world.
Greek colonies and communities have been historically established on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea, but the Greek people have always been centered around the Aegean and Ionian seas, where the Greek language has been spoken since the Bronze Age. Until the early 20th century, Greeks were distributed between the Greek peninsula, the western coast of Asia Minor, the Black Sea coast, Cappadocia in central Anatolia, Egypt, the Balkans, Cyprus, and Constantinople. Many of these regions coincided to a large extent with the borders of the Byzantine Empire of the late 11th century and the Eastern Mediterranean areas of ancient Greek colonization. The cultural centers of the Greeks have included Athens, Thessalonica, Alexandria, Smyrna, and Constantinople at various periods.

In mathematical finance, the Greeks are the quantities representing the sensitivity of the price of derivatives such as options to a change in underlying parameters on which the value of an instrument or portfolio of financial instruments is dependent. The name is used because the most common of these sensitivities are denoted by Greek letters (as are some other finance measures). Collectively these have also been called the risk sensitivities,risk measures or hedge parameters.
Use of the Greeks
The Greeks are vital tools in risk management. Each Greek measures the sensitivity of the value of a portfolio to a small change in a given underlying parameter, so that component risks may be treated in isolation, and the portfolio rebalanced accordingly to achieve a desired exposure; see for example delta hedging.
The Greeks in the Black–Scholes model are relatively easy to calculate, a desirable property of financial models, and are very useful for derivatives traders, especially those who seek to hedge their portfolios from adverse changes in market conditions. For this reason, those Greeks which are particularly useful for hedging—such as delta, theta, and vega—are well-defined for measuring changes in Price, Time and Volatility. Although rho is a primary input into the Black–Scholes model, the overall impact on the value of an option corresponding to changes in the risk-free interest rate is generally insignificant and therefore higher-order derivatives involving the risk-free interest rate are not common.

Heroscape
Heroscape (stylized as "heroScape" or "HeroScape") is an expandable turn-based miniature wargaming system originally manufactured by Milton Bradley Company, and later by Wizards of the Coast, both subsidiaries of Hasbro, Inc., and discontinued by Hasbro in November 2010. The game is played using pre-painted miniature figures on a board made from interlocking hexagonal tiles that allow for construction of a large variety of 3D playing boards. The game is often noted and lauded by fans for the relatively high production quality of the game materials, in particular the pre-painted miniature figures as well as its interchangeable and variable landscape system.
History
Heroscape was released in 2004. The game designers are Craig Van Ness, Rob Daviau, and Stephen Baker at Hasbro Games. Hasbro's subsidiary, Milton Bradley, also developed HeroQuest and Battle Masters. Heroscape is designed for 2 or more players ages 8 and older, although it can easily be adapted to more players, particularly if more than one master set and expansion sets are used. There are additional expansion sets that can be purchased (see: Master Sets and Expansion Sets, below).

Anatolia (from Greek Ἀνατολή, Anatolḗ — "east" or "(sun)rise"; in modern Turkish: Anadolu), in geography known as Asia Minor (from Greek: Μικρὰ Ἀσία Mīkrá Asía — "small Asia"; in modern Turkish: Küçük Asya), Asian Turkey, Anatolian peninsula, or Anatolian plateau, is the westernmost protrusion of Asia, which makes up the majority of the Republic of Turkey. The inhabitants of this region predominantly spoke Greek until the region was conquered first by the Seljuk Turks and later by the Ottoman Empire.
The region is bounded by the Black Sea to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and the Aegean Sea to the west. The Sea of Marmara forms a connection between the Black and Aegean Seas through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits and separates Anatolia from Thrace on the European mainland.
Traditionally, Anatolia is considered to extend in the east to a line between the Gulf of İskenderun and the Black Sea to what is historically known as the Armenian Highlands (Armenia Major). This region is now named and largely situated in the Eastern Anatolia region of the far north east of Turkey and converges with the Lesser Caucasus - an area that was incorporated in the Russian Empire region of Transcaucasia in the 19th century. Thus, traditionally Anatolia is the territory that comprises approximately the western two-thirds of the Asian part of Turkey. However, since the Armenian Genocide and declaration of the Turkish Republic in 1923, the Armenian Highlands had been renamed Eastern Anatolia by the Turkish government and Anatolia is often considered to be synonymous with Asian Turkey, which comprises almost the entire country, its eastern and southeastern borders are widely taken to be the Turkish borders with neighboring Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, and Syria, in clockwise direction.

Asia Minor (instrumental)
"Asia Minor" is a 1961 instrumental recording by Jimmy Wisner (operating under the name Kokomo so as to not alienate his jazz fans). It is a rock and roll adaptation of Edvard Grieg's "Piano Concerto in A Minor", using shellac on the hammers of a cheap piano so as to induce a honky-tonk sound. He was turned down by 10 labels and had to release the track on his own label Future Records. The song became a hit, reaching No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 35 on the UK Singles Chart, despite having been banned by the BBC, which at the time refused airplay for music found to violate various standards, including pieces deemed to "[distort] melody, harmony and rhythm".
Background
Wisner had previously had two albums out as part of the Jimmy Wisner Trio, but had the idea for adapting a famous classical song into a boogie-woogie-style piano track. Even though Wisner had many connections in the music industry, no-one was willing to take a chance on it; ten rejections later, including from Felsted Records that had released his previous two albums, Wisner decided to release the record on his own label, Future Records. To avoid alienating the jazz community, Wisner used the pseudonym "Kokomo". As a result, no interviews, photographs, or performances as Kokomo, were ever given in support of "Asia Minor".

Pyrrhic Dance (Πυρρίχιος) - Athens Olympics 2004
The Pyrrhichios dance ("Pyrrhic dance"; Ancient Greek: πυρρίχιος or πυρρίχη, but often misspelled as πυρρίχειος or πυρήχειος) was the best known war dance of the Greeks. It was probably of Doric origin and practiced at first solely as a training for war. Plato (leges, p. 815) describes it as imitating by quick movements the ways in which blows and darts are to be avoided and also the modes in which an enemy is to be attacked. It was dance to the sound of the aulos; it's time was quick and light, as is also shewn by the metric foot called pyrrhic. It was described by Xenophon in his work the Anabasis. Here, Dr. Bernard Coulie examines the genocide of the Empire’s Pontic Greek and Assyrian populations, who, in the years between 1915-1923, underwent a process of confiscations, deportations and massacres much like the Armenians. During the Greek genocide, the Greeks of Pontus took arms and went to the mountains where they fought the Turkish army and the Chetes(Turkish irregulars) trying to save as much Greeks as they could. After the Greek defeat in August of 1922 these guerrillas were the only Greeks who were fighting the Turkish. Some guerrillas stayed and kept fighting even after the "Population Exchange of 1923". Its speakers are referred to as Pontic Greeks or Pontian Greeks.
The linguistic lineage of Pontic Greek stems from Ionic Greek via Koine and Byzantine Greek, and contains influences from Georgian, Russian, Turkish and Armenian.
Pontic Greek is an endangered Indo-European language spoken by about 778,000 people worldwide. However, only 200,000–300,000 are considered active speakers. Although it is mainly spoken in Northern Greece, it is also spoken in Turkey, Russia, Armenia, Georgia and Kazakhstan and by the Pontic diaspora. The language was brought to Greece in the 1920s after the expulsion of the Christian Pontic Greeks from their homeland during the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey. However, it is still spoken in pockets of the Pontus today, mostly by Pontic Greek Muslims in the eastern districts of Trabzon Province. Pontic Greek is considered a dialect of modern Greek, although reportedly, the speakers of each do not fully understand each other.It is primarily written in the Greek script, while in Turkey and Ukraine the Latin script is used more frequently.

Pontic Greek is an endangered Indo-European language spoken by about 778,000 people worldwide. However, only 200,000–300,000 are considered active speakers. Although it is mainly spoken in Northern Greece, it is also spoken in Turkey, Russia, Armenia, Georgia and Kazakhstan and by the Pontic diaspora. The language was brought to Greece in the 1920s after the expulsion of the Christian Pontic Greeks from their homeland during the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey. However, it is still spoken in pockets of the Pontus today, mostly by Pontic Greek Muslims in the eastern districts of Trabzon Province. Pontic Greek is considered a dialect of modern Greek, although reportedly, the speakers of each do not fully understand each other.It is primarily written in the Greek script, while in Turkey and Ukraine the Latin script is used more frequently.

Euxine Sea. Pontus. The Northeastern coasts of Asia Minor have been under Greek influence since ancient times. However, 3000 years of history stopped violently from 1914 until 1923 due to the political movement of the "Young Turks" whose motto was "Turkey only for Turks". The result was the genocide of the entire Christian population of Anatolia (Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians). People forgot the meaning of "being human". They turned to beasts. Every male Pontic Greek, from 15 to 60 years old, was sent to labor battalions (amele taburları), also known as "labor of death". Thousands of men died from hardship and torture. Those who stayed back, were forced to travel on foot, a destination to central and southeast Turkey during winter. No food supplies. The "Death March". 70% of the population died from hardship. In 1916, those who survived the Death March, were under worse torturing from the irregular Topal Osman. He got sponsored by M.K.Atatürk by enhancing his irregulars and lifting his warrant against the Istanbul Court convicting him for crimes against humanity. They are both heroes now. More than a thousand Greek villages were erased of the map, since the "Çetes" would burn houses and churches with all the villagers inside. No Christian left. Greeks who survived the slaughtering, converted to Islam in order to survive. Many were sold at slave markets. Certainly, many Turkish villagers helped their Christian neighbors, but they were banished as traitors. Turkish historians wrote about the genocidal plan of the "Young Turks" nationalists, but they were imprisoned again as traitors. The remembrance day was designated to be May 19th. The victims were… 353.000 Greeks, 1.5 million Armenians, 300.000 Assyrians. The refugees… millions. A crime, a horrible black page in history that until today has not been recognized and is denied! We must never forget what "Pontus" means. We ought to preserve our history and our culture! 🇬🇷

The Pyrrhichios dance ("Pyrrhic dance"; Ancient Greek: πυρρίχιος or πυρρίχη, but often misspelled as πυρρίχειος or πυρήχειος) was the best known war dance of the Greeks. It was probably of Doric origin and practiced at first solely as a training for war. Plato (leges, p. 815) describes it as imitating by quick movements the ways in which blows and darts are to be avoided and also the modes in which an enemy is to be attacked. It was dance to the sound of the aulos; it's time was quick and light, as is also shewn by the metric foot called pyrrhic.
It was described by Xenophon in his work the Anabasis. In that work he writes that at a festival was held in Trapezus (Pontus) to celebrate the arrival of his troops in the city. The following is the part in which the pyrrhic dance is mentioned:
"A Mysian who saw that they were amazed, retorted by persuading one of the Arcadians who had acquired a dancing girl to dress her in the finest costume he could, fit her with a light shield and bring her on to give a graceful performance of the “Pyrrhic” dance. Thereupon there was a roar of applause, and the Paphlagonians asked if the Greek women also fought side by side with their men. The Greeks answered that these were the very women who had routed the king from his camp"
Also Homer refers to Pyrrihios and describes how Achilles danced it around the burning funeral of Patroclos. The dance was loved in all of Greece and especially the Spartans considered it a kind of light war training and so they taught the dance to their children while still young.

While the Armenians were the primary target of the 1915 Genocide perpetrated by the Young Turk regime, there were other Christian minorities in the Ottoman Empire who fell victim to similar policies of extermination. Here, Dr. Bernard Coulie examines the genocide of the Empire’s Pontic Greek and Assyrian populations, who, in the years between 1915-1923, underwent a process of confiscations, deportations and massacres much like the Armenians.
Dr. Bernard Coulie is a professor of Byzantine studies, Armenian and Georgian studies, and European culture and identity at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.

During the Greek genocide, the Greeks of Pontus took arms and went to the mountains where they fought the Turkish army and the Chetes(Turkish irregulars) trying to save as much Greeks as they could. After the Greek defeat in August of 1922 these guerrillas were the only Greeks who were fighting the Turkish. Some guerrillas stayed and kept fighting even after the "Population Exchange of 1923". The song is in the Pontic dialect.

During the Greek genocide, the Greeks of Pontus took arms and went to the mountains where they fought the Turkish army and the Chetes(Turkish irregulars) trying to save as much Greeks as they could. After the Greek defeat in August of 1922 these guerrillas were the only Greeks who were fighting the Turkish. Some guerrillas stayed and kept fighting even after the "Population Exchange of 1923". The song is in the Pontic dialect.

Greek is spoken by some 13 million people, primarily in the Mediterranean nation of Greece, and by significant communities in Eastern Europe and North America. Pontic, a closely related language, is spoken by about 1.2 million people, primarily in Greece's north. Translations below:

My parents were refugees to Greece. My father was from Kars, but his specific village name I don't remember...it was in the Caucasus region. My father knew Greek, Pontic Greek, Russian, a little Armenian, and Turkish. He knew all those languages. And my mother was from Tbilisi, from Georgia, from Tbilisi, Georgia. And that village of my mother was called Sekitli, 15km outside Tbilisi. My mother went to Greece in 1914, as refugees, she was 7 years old. And my father came to Greece in 1922.

My father was born in Russia. His homeland was Kars. My mother was born in Tbilisi in Georgia, and her village was called Sekitli. They came to Lahana, Thessaloniki as a refugee in 1914 my mother. And in 1922 came my father. My mother's name was Eleni, and my father's name was Yiorgo (George). They got married in Lahana and that's where they settled. They left for Dímitra (village). There they had their children, their home, and farm

Pontic Greek (Greek: Ποντιακή διάλεκτος, romanized: Pontiakí diálektos; Pontic Greek: Ποντιακόν λαλίαν, romanized: Pontiakón lalían) is a Greek dialect originally spoken in the Pontus area on the southern shores of the Black Sea, northeastern Anatolia, the Eastern Turkish/Caucasus province of Kars, southern Georgia and today mainly in northern Greece. Its speakers are referred to as Pontic Greeks or Pontian Greeks.
The linguistic lineage of Pontic Greek stems from Ionic Greek via Koine and Byzantine Greek, and contains influences from Georgian, Russian, Turkish and Armenian.
Pontic Greek is an endangered Indo-European language spoken by about 778,000 people worldwide. However, only 200,000–300,000 are considered active speakers. Although it is mainly spoken in Northern Greece, it is also spoken in Turkey, Russia, Armenia, Georgia and Kazakhstan and by the Pontic diaspora. The language was brought to Greece in the 1920s after the expulsion of the Christian Pontic Greeks from their homeland during the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey. However, it is still spoken in pockets of the Pontus today, mostly by Pontic Greek Muslims in the eastern districts of Trabzon Province. Pontic Greek is considered a dialect of modern Greek, although reportedly, the speakers of each do not fully understand each other.It is primarily written in the Greek script, while in Turkey and Ukraine the Latin script is used more frequently.

A FEW WORDS:
Euxine Sea. Pontus. The Northeastern coasts of Asia Minor have been under Greek influence since ancient times. However, 3000 years of history stopped violently from 1914 until 1923 due to the political movement of the "Young Turks" whose motto was "Turkey only for Turks". The result was the genocide of the entire Christian population of Anatolia (Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians). People forgot the meaning of "being human". They turned to beasts. Every male Pontic Greek, from 15 to 60 years old, was sent to labor battalions (amele taburları), also known as "labor of death". Thousands of men died from hardship and torture. Those who stayed back, were forced to travel on foot, a destination to central and southeast Turkey during winter. No food supplies. The "Death March". 70% of the population died from hardship. In 1916, those who survived the Death March, were under worse torturing from the irregular Topal Osman. He got sponsored by M.K.Atatürk by enhancing his irregulars and lifting his warrant against the Istanbul Court convicting him for crimes against humanity. They are both heroes now. More than a thousand Greek villages were erased of the map, since the "Çetes" would burn houses and churches with all the villagers inside. No Christian left. Greeks who survived the slaughtering, converted to Islam in order to survive. Many were sold at slave markets. Certainly, many Turkish villagers helped their Christian neighbors, but they were banished as traitors. Turkish historians wrote about the genocidal plan of the "Young Turks" nationalists, but they were imprisoned again as traitors. The remembrance day was designated to be May 19th. The victims were… 353.000 Greeks, 1.5 million Armenians, 300.000 Assyrians. The refugees… millions. A crime, a horrible black page in history that until today has not been recognized and is denied! We must never forget what "Pontus" means. We ought to preserve our history and our culture! 🇬🇷

The Pyrrhichios dance ("Pyrrhic dance"; Ancient Greek: πυρρίχιος or πυρρίχη, but often misspelled as πυρρίχειος or πυρήχειος) was the best known war dance of the Greeks. It was probably of Doric origin and practiced at first solely as a training for war. Plato (leges, p. 815) describes it as imitating by quick movements the ways in which blows and darts are to be avoided and also the modes in which an enemy is to be attacked. It was dance to the sound of the aulos; it's time was quick and light, as is also shewn by the metric foot called pyrrhic.
It was described by Xenophon in his work the Anabasis. In that work he writes that at a festival was held in Trapezus (Pontus) to celebrate the arrival of his troops in the city. The following is the part in which the pyrrhic dance is mentioned:
"A Mysian who saw that they were amazed, retorted by persuading one of the Arcadians who had acquired a dancing girl to dress her in the finest costume he could, fit her with a light shield and bring her on to give a graceful performance of the “Pyrrhic” dance. Thereupon there was a roar of applause, and the Paphlagonians asked if the Greek women also fought side by side with their men. The Greeks answered that these were the very women who had routed the king from his camp"
Also Homer refers to Pyrrihios and describes how Achilles danced it around the burning funeral of Patroclos. The dance was loved in all of Greece and especially the Spartans considered it a kind of light war training and so they taught the dance to their children while still young.

While the Armenians were the primary target of the 1915 Genocide perpetrated by the Young Turk regime, there were other Christian minorities in the Ottoman Empire who fell victim to similar policies of extermination. Here, Dr. Bernard Coulie examines the genocide of the Empire’s Pontic Greek and Assyrian populations, who, in the years between 1915-1923, underwent a process of confiscations, deportations and massacres much like the Armenians.
Dr. Bernard Coulie is a professor of Byzantine studies, Armenian and Georgian studies, and European culture and identity at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.

Pontic Greeks
The Pontic Greeks, also known as Pontian Greeks (Greek: Πόντιοι, Ελληνοπόντιοι, Póntioi, Ellinopóntioi; Turkish: Pontus Rumları, Karadeniz Rumlari, Georgian: პონტოელი ბერძნები), are an ethnically Greek group who traditionally lived in the region of Pontus, on the shores of the Black Sea and in the Pontic Alps of northeastern Anatolia. Many later migrated to other parts of Eastern Anatolia, to the former Russian province of Kars Oblast in the Transcaucasus, and to Georgia in various waves between the Ottoman conquest of the Empire of Trebizond in 1461 and the second Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829. Those from southern Russia, Ukraine, and Crimea are often referred to as "Northern Pontic [Greeks]", in contrast to those from "South Pontus", which strictly speaking is Pontus proper. Those from Georgia, northeastern Anatolia, and the former Russian Caucasus are in contemporary Greek academic circles often referred to as "Eastern Pontic [Greeks]" or as Caucasian Greeks, but also include the Greco-Turkic speaking Urums.
