Ymir is one of the playable Gods in SMITE.

Lore[]

As far as it is known, Ymir has long been dead.

In Midgard, in the North, it is believed that Ymir's skull is the sky, his flesh the earth, and his blood the sea. Though, these claims could merely be the boasting of proud Odin and his brothers, who take credit for slaying the first jotunn and fashioning the earth from his body parts.

At the beginning of time, the Realm of Fire, Muspell, and the Realm of Ice, Niflheim met at the place called Ginnungagap; the void of space. Steam rose and froze again, and from that primordial mixture, Ymir, King of the Frost Giants took shape. From his body dripped other beings that would become the ancestors of Gods, Men, Dwarves, and of course, Giants. Even the mighty Odin must claim Ymir as his grandfather. Yet Ymir, like all giants, was an evil creature and led his Giant brethren against the Gods. After ages of warfare, Odin and his brothers slew the Giant-King and forged the world from his remains.

Yet there are other whispers. Rumors that Ymir, though not a God, was still a Primeval Being, and as such cannot truly be destroyed. Perhaps he only lies dormant in Niflheim, the realm of ice, eager to return and wreak vengeance upon Odin in his kin.

Abilities[]

Passive - Frostbite

	All of Ymir's abilities that affect enemies apply a Debuff to the enemy called Frostbite. All of Ymir's Basic Attacks against a target afflicted by Frostbite do 100% more damage. Enemies afflicted by Frostbite deal 15% less damage. Lasts for 6s.		Notes: The debuff doesn't stack, but the duration is refreshed on each application.

1st Ability - Ice Wall

	Ymir summons a wall of ice out of the ground that blocks player movement.		Notes: The wall can be deployed through map walls and can be reactivated to remove it at any time, even while under crowd control or dead. Ymir can walk past the wall if its placed right at his feet while he's moving. The wall can be used to block Joust Titan's attacks.

Ultimate - Shards of Ice

	Ymir begins to freeze the air around him, causing shards of ice to grow on his back and Slowing enemies. After a 3s channel, Ymir erupts out of his frozen state, causing shards of ice to do damage to all enemies in his range. Applies Frostbite. Cancelling the ability decreases the damage.		Notes: Frostbite is applied once on cast and then again upon detonation (up to 9s). If Ymir dies while channeling, it will detonate dealing damage for the amount charged. Ymir is immune to crowd control effects while using this ability. Deals a minimum of 125/162/200/238/275 (+37% of your Magical Power) damage. Ability must be channeled for at least 1s before it can be cancelled.

Ymir was one of the 9 playable gods in the Alpha build of SMITE's first presentation to the public at PAX Prime 2011.
Ymir was one of the 17 playable gods in SMITE closed Beta.
Ymir and Odin were the first Norse gods introduced in the game.
Ymir and Arachne were the first non-god characters added to Smite.
Ymir along with Artemis are the only gods that don't have a standard recolor skin.
Ymir has been a free starter character for every player account created since the start of the game's closed beta.

One of Ymir's taunts, ▶️"You're mine now! Ymir will love you, and squeeze you, and call you George!", is a reference to one of Looney Tunes shorts, The Abominable Snow Rabbit. This character is, himself, a reference to the character Lennie Small from John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.
In February of 2015, Ymir received a remodel changing his Default, Twitchymir, Nuclear Winter and Mastery skins. His Obsidian Shard, Digi-MIR 9000 and Cacodemon skins had only their animations changed.

Obsidian Shard

This skin has the same name as the item Obsidian Shard.
This was one of the few skins who were lowered from a Tier 3 to a Tier 2 skin along with Black Widow Arachne.

This makes this skin one of the few Tier 2 with custom effects.

This is one of the few skins that still uses its 3D model for its card art instead of a digital painted card art. The other ones being Feaster Bunny Bakasura, Lil' Devil Cupid, Red Demon Hun Batz, Solar Sentinel Ra, Blood Eagle Thor, Digi-MIR 9000 Ymir and Stormbringer Zeus.

Digi-MIR 9000

This is the only skin in the game that uses the default VGS for commands but not for abilities.

This may have happened because this skin was introduced before gods got their individual voice lines.

Crystal Colossus

This skin changes Ymir from being an ice giant to a crystal dragon.
This skin was voiced by Kyle Hebert.
This skin along with Death Dragon Anubis, Sashimi Neko Bacchus, Biohacker Chernobog, Labryinth Keeper Heimdallr, and Pendragon King Arthur are the only skins in the game to give a tail to a god who previously did not have one.
This skin shares it's theme with Crystalline Chaos Nu Wa.

This skin was part of a reward for using the in game streaming option, but since the streaming in game was removed, this skin cannot be obtained this way anymore.

This skin is now available using the twitch drops systems during certain broadcast such as the SMITE World Championship.

Nuclear Winter

This skin, together with Derpules Hercules, were the first skins exclusive to chests.
Both Ymir and this skin were voiced by Charles Campbell.

Irezumir

This skin is based on a Sumo fighter.
This is the first skin to change Ymir into a humanoid character.
In this skin, the ability Ice Wall changes from normal blocks of ice to frozen fish.
The actor who voiced this skin, Bill Jenkins, also voided Eldritch Ra, Ullr, Berserker Ullr and Vulcap'n Redbeard Vulcan.

Baron Frostchild

Both Ymir and this skin were voiced by Charles Campbell.

Freezy Chibi
