"Stick Hockey" is the first episode of Season Three (and forty-first episode overall) of Regular Show. It first aired on September 19, 2011.
Synopsis[]
Mordecai and Rigby set out to find the stick hockey table Benson sold away, and eventually end up facing a pro of the game that killed Benson's teammate years before.
Plot[]
Benson is walking in the park when he steps on a piece of gum. He quickly suspects that Mordecai and Rigby are slacking off. That turns out to be true when he finds Mordecai and Rigby playing a game of stick hockey in the garage. Benson is angry at the duo for slacking off and wants to get rid of the stick hockey table, but agrees that the duo can keep it if they finish de-gumming the park. After scraping all the gum off all surfaces of the park ranging from benches to slides to tables, even going to lengths of biting it off, Mordecai and Rigby return to the garage for post-work stick hockey to find that the table is gone. They find out that Benson threw it out because he didn't expect the two to finish their work. Angered, Mordecai and Rigby throw a bucket of gum at Benson to prove otherwise, with Mordecai telling Benson that he has been dishonest. Benson calls Mordecai and Rigby hypocrites, asking Pops and Skips to back him up. The two opt to take Mordecai and Rigby's side instead, and Benson must accompany Mordecai and Rigby to the King Thrift pawn shop to retrieve the table.
They find that the table has already been sold but the clerk offers them a foosball table and Benson wants to buy it for them, but after playing it for a few seconds, the duo are clearly unsatisfied. On their way back to the park, Benson says he did the right thing throwing the table away because it would ruin their lives. Mordecai sarcastically remarks that he trusts Benson, then gives an honest answer that he is instead throwing away that trust. Insulted, Benson slams the breaks on and an argument ensues until Mordecai shoves Benson out of the cart, and the duo set off on an epic journey to find the new owner of the table, which by now has been sold on numerous times. After visiting multiple thrift stores and other buyers, they finally reach the Stick Hockey Arena. Back at the house with Pops and Skips, Benson is mad about what Mordecai and Rigby did, until Skips pointed out that he should of given them a chance instead of automatically thinking they didn't finish their jobs. Realizing this, Benson is fully remorseful about his actions and decides to apologize to Mordecai and Rigby. Mordecai and Rigby won't answer the walkie-talkie for Benson, but when Skips contacts them and learns where they are, he tells Benson that he won't believe it: they're in the Stick Hockey Arena, home of no-holds-barred stick hockey where the fight can even be to the death.
Battered and bruised, Mordecai and Rigby are shown playing against Chong, who is beating them 32 to 7. When time is nearly up for Mordecai and Rigby, Benson makes a dramatic entrance. It is revealed that 10 years ago, Benson was a master stick hockey player whose nickname was Death Dragon. In a flashback, he had an apprentice named Dave who was decapitated by Chong. The trauma of the flashback makes Benson cry, but also makes him determined to beat Chong. Benson's match against Chong takes place on a tilting platform over a pit of flames, and Benson seems unable to compete on this stage. Things go from bad to worse as Chong creates several mirror images of himself, nearly overwhelming Benson. However, Benson is able to summon all his abilities to pull off a last-second victory. Back at the house, Benson brings the table to the garage, and asks Mordecai and Rigby if they want to play. After the horrors of the Stick Hockey Arena, the duo decide to go back to play video games. The episode ends with Benson asking himself, "Why do I even bother?"
