Also known as a Soldier Demon, the Zombie Warrior is an undead low class Genma that first appears in Onimusha: Warlords. They act primarily as the foot soldiers for a Genma attack and are among the most common Genma that can be encountered. While they are large in numbers, the Zombie Warriors are also among the weakest Genma alive. Many variants of this Genma have existed throughout the series including the Zombie Swordsman, the Zombie Axeman, and the Toyotomi Soldier.

Appearance

Zombie Warrior

The Zombie Warrior is a humanoid skeleton wearing a disheveled dark green cloth outfit that covers most of its body with a white strap around its waist, only exposing its head and chest. It wears a large orange bamboo hat on its head, and the exposed pieces of its body show only a small amount of flesh left on its body, likely having rotted away. Its appearance undergoes a slight change from Onimusha 3: Demon Siege and onwards, with its outfit being cut off at the sleeves and wearing a brown shirt underneath. The Zombie Warrior wields a poorly maintained nodachi that is likely taken from a fallen human, though archer variants are also known to exist, wielding a standard bow instead of a nodachi.

Zombie Axeman (Onimusha 3: Demon Siege)

In 1582, an upgraded variant of the Zombie Warrior can be encountered known as the Zombie Axeman. While most features are similar to the standard variant, its outfit and hat exhibit a much darker shade of brown compared to the usual green and orange, with the hat also having a yellow circle painted near the rim. As the name suggests, it replaces its nodachi for a small hand axe.

Zombie Archer

While Zombie Archers have existed in previous entries, they exhibit a significantly different appearance in Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. It wears a yellow leather helmet with its skeletal face exposed, with black armor covering their chest that extends to a pair of pauldrons on its upper arms, though the armor does expose its lower ribcage and spine. Its wears thick brown leg armor that significantly thins out at its lower legs, and wields a standard bow, taking arrows from a quiver strapped to its back. Unlike the standard Zombie Warriors, the Archer is entirely skeletal in nature, no longer having any flesh attached. A stronger variant of the Archer exists whose armor is a mix of red and white as opposed to black and brown.

Zombie Spearman

This variant is covered in green metal shell-shaped armor across its entire upper body, wearing a snout-shaped mask that only exposes its glowing green eyes. Its wears a pair of dark green leather trousers on its lower body and wields a large spear in both hands. A stronger variant of the spearman exists, though the only noticeable difference is the color of its armor, exhibiting a slightly paler shade of green.

Zombie Axeman (Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams)

Unlike the Axeman seen in Onimusha 3: Demon Siege, the Axeman that is encountered in Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams stand around 1ft taller than the average person, wearing red and dark navy-blue armor everywhere except for its torso, exposing its ribcage and spine. It wears an open-faced helmet of the same color and wields a large single-bladed battleaxe. A stronger variant of the Axeman exists wearing black and blue armor that is capable of stronger attacks.

Toyotomi Soldier

Still skeletal in nature, this variant of Zombie Warrior wears a full set of standard brown armor worn by soldiers of the Toyotomi clan. The nodachi it wields is likely standard issue within the Toyotomi clan. While not by much, these act as slightly stronger versions of the standard Zombie Warrior.

Zombie Swordsman

These stronger variants wear a more ornate set of armor than other versions of the Zombie Warrior, with the kneepads and arm armor being bright yellow in color with a dark navy blue chest plate covering its upper body while exposing its lower torso. It wears bright red gauntlets and a helmet of the same color, the helmet having an extra yellow piece attached to the top. Its leggings are a darker shade of red that connect to a pair of brown boots. Another stronger variant of Zombie Swordsman also exists that wears the same armor, though all of the red pieces are now the same yellow color as the pauldrons and kneepads, while the leggings are now a similar navy-blue color to the chest plate.

Zombie Warrior Blade Warriors

The Zombie Warrior is one of 24 playable characters in Onimusha: Blade Warriors and is one of 12 characters that are available from the beginning. However, it is automatically replaced in the game's Story Mode by the Jaid upon raising its character level to 2. While the Zombie Warrior becomes unavailable in Story Mode upon unlocking Jaid, it can still be accessed in VS. Mode.

Trivia

  • Zombie Warrior is one of three playable characters in Onimusha: Blade Warriors that are irreversibly replaced by new characters in Story Mode by raising their character level, the other two being Three-Eyes and Musaid, with the latter replacing the former at level 2, then getting replaced itself by Giramusaid at level 3.
