Gate Keeper

The Gate Keeper is a bizarre little man wrapped up in a cocoon who would drop down from the ceiling to allow the Onimusha heroes into the Dark Realm. Many different Gate Keepers have appeared throughout the series, and are known to be members of the Mino clan, though they do not make an appearance in Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny.

The most notable Gate Keeper is Minogoro, who makes his appearance in Onimusha: Warlords, and is responsible for offering passage to the Dark Realm to Samanosuke Akechi during his campaign against Fortinbras, allowing him to gain the Bishamon Ocarina, and as a result, awaken and acquire the Bishamon Sword. At some point after Fortinbras was defeated, the Genma hunted down and killed him for his role in aiding Samanosuke. He is succeeded by his son, Minokichi.

A seperate unnamed Gate Keeper makes an appearance in Onimusha 3: Demon Siege that fills the role of Minogoro, sending both Samanosuke Akechi and Jacques Blanc to the Dark Realm on multiple occasions throughout the game. According to Minokichi, unlike Minogoro, this Gate Keeper was not hunted by the Genma, and during the events of Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, is in the process of marrying another member of the Mino clan, who he announces is newly pregnant.

While filling a more minor role, another unnamed Gate Keeper appears in Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, acting as a shopkeeper that sells Weapons, Apparel, and Items to Hideyasu Yūki and the rest of the Onimusha heroes. Minokichi begins acting as the Gate Keeper of the Dark Realm himself in this instance.
