Ranmaru Mori was one of Nobunaga Oda's Generals and also the head retainer to the Oda family. He makes an appearance in Onimusha 3: Demon Siege.
Onimusha 3: Demon Siege
Ranmaru is first encountered at Nobunaga's side in Honnoji Temple. He attacks Samansouke, but the Oni effortlessly kills him. Just as Samanosuke is about to face Nobunaga, he is caught along with the body of Ranmaru by an unstable time fold and is acidentally whisked off to the future of Paris in 2004.
In the Future
Upon arriving in Paris, Guildenstern finds his body soon after meeting Samanosuke at the Arc de Triomphe and resurrects him, converting him into a Genma by injecting him with Genma blood. When Samanosuke is found again by Guildenstern in the Undersea Temple, he brings a now mutated Ranmaru to fight him. As a Genma, Ranmaru's personality shifts significantly, becoming much more sadistic and bloodthirsty. While he attempts to use his new power to defeat Samanosuke, he ultimately fails and realises that his body is still attempting to fight off the effect of his new Genma blood, fleeing in order to give himself the chance to fully adapt to it.
Upon learning of the death of Guildenstern at Boulogne Zoo, Ranmaru finds himself feeling nothing for the late scientist, only feeling rage towards Samanosuke. Once Jacques Blanc is saved from the gas trap in Mont Saint Michel by his son, Henri, Ranmaru appears again on a screen within the Monastery and reveals that the Time Folder is now complete and ready to be activated. He then triggers another device within the Monastery to begin exploding in an attempt to kill Samanosuke, but he, Michelle Aubert and Henri are successful in escaping the blast once Samanosuke defeats Gertrude.
Having seen that the now completed Time Folder is housed at the Eiffel Tower, Samanosuke climbs to the top and confronts Ranmaru once again. Ranmaru announces that he is ready to use the Time Folder to bring Nobunaga to the future, and once again attempts to kill Samanosuke when he tries to stop him. Despite having now gained full control of his Genma blood, Samanosuke defeats him again, and Ranmaru desperately crawls towards the Time Folder, successfully turning it on before he collapses. After Samanosuke sends Ako to the past to assist in the battle against Nobunaga, Jacques Blanc is brought back to the future once he defeats the warlord. He and his family bid farewell to Samanosuke and Ako, but as they prepare to return hime, a still alive, albeit weak Ranmaru, manages to sneak up behind them and slash at Henri, inflicting a fatal wound. While he cackles at Henri's injury, Jacques flies into a rage and repeatedly lashes at Ranmaru with his Oni Whip, finally resulting in his death. His attempt at killing Henri, while initially successful, is soon reversed once the Oni use Jacques' Oni Gauntlet to revive him, Jacques losing his Gauntlet in the process.
In the Past
Due to Jacques appearing 10 days before the assault on Honnoji Temple, he is met with another version of Ranmaru once he and Samanosuke reach Enryaku Temple on Mt. Hiei. In the past, Ranmaru remains calm and calculating, initially brushing of Jacques as a "Barbarian mercenery hired out of desperation". When asked why he serves a monster like Nobunaga despite being human himself, Ranmaru refuses to tell him and summons Marcellus, leaving them to fight as he reveals that Nobunaga is already aware of Mitsuhide's planned rebellion. Samanosuke attempts to chase Ranmaru down while Jacques fights Marcellus, but Ranmaru ultimately escapes.
Ranmaru is encountered again at the Undersea Temple once Jacques finds the second entry to Guildenstern's Time Lab journal, showing a little more respect to the westerner and saying that he would make a good detective. He tells Jacques that Guildenstern had built a Time Folder within the Temple, though had not managed to finish it, but when Jacques demands to know where it is, Ranmaru tells him to find it himself, playfully warning him to watch out for the guard dog as he leaves. Ranmaru is not seen again until Jacques reaches Azuchi Castle and meets with a defecting Heihachi, learning of Heihachi's betrayal and challenging the spearman to try and kill Nobunaga when the former promises to take the warlord's head. Heihachi is seen giving chase while Jacques begins climbing to the top of the castle and confronting Vega Donna. While the two battle, Ranmaru sets a trap for the pursuing Heihachi in an attempt to kill him, but when the trap is sprung, the spearman manages to cling to life long enough for him to be found by Jacques and Samanosuke following Vega's defeat. Knowing that Ranmaru's trap had failed, he uses his last moments to reveal to them that Nobunaga is at Honnoji Temple before succumbing to his wounds.
Ranmaru's final confrontation occurs at the entrance to Honnoji Temple as he attempts to defend Nobunaga, but while Samanosuke prepares to face him, Jacques decides to do so alone in order to avenge Heihachi, rushing up the stairs towards the retainer. After dodging a few of Ranmaru's attacks, Jacques is able to use his Oni Whip in order to pull his sword out of his hands and disarm him. Now left without a weapon, Ranmaru is repeatedly beaten by Jacques' bare hands before being launched from the Temple's balcony to the stone floor below, resulting in his ultimate death.
