Battabone Oni 3

The Battobone is an aquatic Genma that makes its first appearance in Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny. Primarily acting in schools known as Battooyako alongside the smaller Battochaika, these Genma are known to inhabit the waters of Japan. Following the creation of the Time Folder, schools of Battobone and Battochaika begin residing within the sewer waters of modern-day Paris.

Appearance

The Battobone's body is very similar to that of the mythical merman, possessing a two-armed upper body and a long fish-like tail with large white and red fins at the tip. Its arms also each have a fin attached at the elbow and sharp four-fingered claws. Its large head resembles that of a Goliath Tigerfish with a massive sharp-toothed jaw and a pair of small eyes on either side. Its body is covered in dark grey scales, though this coloration changes to a more vivid green in Onimusha 3: Demon Siege.

Behavior

Battobone are known to act as the leaders of a school consisting of other Battobone and the smaller Battochaika, the school being known as a Battooyako. They reside in bodies of water such as lakes or rivers, only emerging above water when potential prey strays too close, though they are also known to live within the sea itself, emerging from the water to attack unsuspecting humans at port towns such as Sakai. They are also capable of living in dirtier bodies of water such as modern day sewers without issue, seemingly unaffected by the toxins or bacteria within. While they are usually content with simply residing within water, they are also known to build large nests in order to safely and very quickly reproduce. These nests are surprisingly sturdy, requiring a cannon or something with equivalent firepower to destroy.

When attacking, the Battobone is the first to emerge followed by a number Battochaika, repeatedly attempting to claw at its target or sometimes jumping at them in an attempt to bite into them. Whether in water or on dry land, they are capable of quickly sliding towards and around foes when needed, either to chase down fleeing prey or reposition themselves when fighting more aggressive foes. When further away from foes, they are also capable of firing a pressurized stream of waater from their mouths in order to damage the target.

Trivia

  • The Battobone and Battochaika are the only known Genma to reside primarily in water.
    • Despite this, they are entirely capable of living on land as many are found within the Dark Realm where there appears to be no bodies of water.
