This is a list of events directly related to Nintendo that took place before 1960.
September 23, 1889: Nintendo is founded by Fusajiro Yamauchi as a Hanafuda card manufacturing company.
1907: Nintendo partners with Japan Tobacco & Salt Corporation in order to sell their Hanafuda cards in cigarette stores. They are deemed the first Japanese company to successfully manufacture and sell Western playing cards in Japan.
1929: Fusajiro retires and is succeeded by Sekiryo Kaneda as president.
c. 19??: Following the death of Nintendo founder Fusajiro Yamauchi, his body is buried in the original Nintendo headquarters in Kyoto.
November 20, 1947: Sekiryo establishes a company called "Marufuku Company, Ltd." to manufacture Nintendo's playing cards.
September 1949: Hiroshi Yamauchi succeeds Sekiryo Kaneda as president of Nintendo. He would later fire all of the employees of Nintendo that were members of his family.
1954: Nintendo releases a 1954 calendar.
1959: Nintendo strikes a deal with Walt Disney Productions to use their licensed characters on their playing cards.
