- "I don't understand what's happening. Why it's... Why it's all falling apart and why... I can't fix it."
"Do you think maybe this is what you deserve?"
"What? You're not supposed to talk." - ―Wanda Maximoff and "Cameraman"
Breaking the Fourth Wall is the seventh episode of the first season of WandaVision.
Synopsis[]
Monica plots her return, Wanda navigates unsettling complications, and Vision forms a new alliance.
Plot[]
Wanda Maximoff wakes up without Vision by her side in a 2000s setting, still in her Halloween costume. With the borders of Westview extended beyond their previous boundaries, reality within the town becomes unstable, as various objects phase in-and-out of differing time periods. Having exiled "Pietro" from the family due to his joke about Vision's death while also feeling remorse for her actions on Halloween, Maximoff seeks to spend the day alone. Thus, she sends Billy and Tommy off with Agnes. While at her house, Billy notes that he is unable to sense Agnes internally.
Elsewhere, Vision wakes up in the middle of a carnival. He recognizes Darcy Lewis from their encounter last night and releases her from Wanda's thrall. Hijacking a food truck to escape, Lewis reveals to Vision his past life, which includes his time as Tony Stark's personal AI J.A.R.V.I.S. and his two deaths to Thanos. As the synthezoid begins to doubt his existence, Lewis affirms to him that the two belong together. But as the two are on the way back home, various impediments block the road in front of them. Growing impatient, Vision leaves Lewis behind as he flies out of the truck to reach home faster.
Meanwhile, S.W.O.R.D. raises a new base eight miles outside Westview. As Tyler Hayward prepares to ready his men for an invasion, he is informed that WandaVision has ended its broadcast. In another area, Jimmy Woo receives Lewis' email regarding Project Cataract, learning that Hayward unsuccessfully attempted to bring Vision back online prior to Maximoff's theft of his corpse. They meet up with Aly Goodner, who supplies Rambeau with an armored rover theorized to be able to penetrate Westview's barrier safely. When Rambeau attempts to drive back into the town, the density of the barrier repels the rover and subjects it to the reality overwrite. With no other options left, she decides to use her body to push through, successfully making her way inside.
Fighting through Maximoff's influence, Rambeau's third passage through the Anomaly barrier renders her as a mutate with heightened sight and energy absorption. She heads to Maximoff's house to warn her of Hayward's impending assault, only to be met with an unwelcome attitude and an attack for mentioning his name. As Rambeau pleads for Maximoff to drop her false reality, Agnes intervenes and carries her neighbor off to her house. When Maximoff finds Billy and Tommy missing, Agnes refers her to the basement, where she finds a mystical book along with other magical paraphernalia.
Agnes locks the door to the gothic basement and reveals herself to Maximoff as the witch Agatha Harkness. Hitting her with a spell, Harkness showcases through her own theme song her meddling during their time in Westview, which include the talent show, Vision's suspicion-raising conversation with Herb, the impostor Pietro, and Sparky's murder. While this is happening, Rambeau finds an entrance to Harkness' basement with her heightened vision, only to encounter the Pietro impostor.
